TFIR - I think that's the best I've seen from Durbin.

Glad you made it home safely, GAYLORD. And congrats on the Pepsi! How much is that, anyway?

I guess Masterson is scheduled to pitch Friday now and Tomlin on Saturday. Huff will go on Sunday if he is called up.

Adam (Ohio)

How do you see the offseason for the Indians shaping up? Are they one outfield right handed bat away from being a serious serious contender?

Jim Bowden (12:40 PM)

Choo and Sizemore healthy all season would have had them in first place right now. Yes I think they are one middle of the lineup impact bat away from winning the division.....Fielder? Pujols? hmmm

The Indians had a chance to take the lead in the eighth, but an attempted suicide squeeze backfired. After Jason Donald doubled off the center-field wall, he moved to third on Carrera's ground out. Brantley, facing lefty Schlereth, tried to bunt an outside pitch, but failed to make contact with Donald steaming home.
Catcher Alex Avila tagged Donald for the easy out.
"I take full responsibility for it," said Acta. "I called for it. Schlereth was eating our up our left-handers. I took a gamble with the count 1-1. I thought he was going to throw a breaking ball over for a strike and Michael would bunt it.
"Unfortunately, he threw a really bad one and it didn't work. But I take full responsibility because when I call one and it works everyone calls me smart."

Personally, I call you dumb whether it works or not.

That breaking pitch was so ridiculously out of the strike zone (wide), no way to bunt it. It was almost a pitch out - or was it?

I think Leyland was laughing in the other dugout. Seems to me that the Indians signs have been pretty easy to steal by the other team. Too many times on called hit and run plays the pitch has been so far off the plate that the batter could not put the bat on the ball and the catcher threw the runner out easily.

As @MarkShapiro noted before the game, Ubaldo Jimenez is Indians' first-ever deadline acquisition who "walks in, and he's our biggest star."

Had last night's game gone longer, Manny Acta would have turned to Josh Tomlin (side day) and, in a real emergency, Jack Hannahan to pitch.

Jim Leyland asked how his bullpen's looking for tonight after Tuesday's marathon. "The bullpen looks OK. I don't know about the guys in it."

On Saturday, my oldest(7) is going to his first Indians fan. He is very excited. Another generation of Indians fan. He knows the lineups, number of home runs for the majority of he players.. My only regret is I am not taking him. Grandma and grandpa are.

Funny, but he is a shelly Duncan fan. He knows him from the clippers games.

With the trade of Orlando Cabrera at the All-Star break, Acta asked Asdrubal Cabrera and Travis Hafner to assume more of a leadership role. Cabrera, especially, has his hands full.
"He has a kid at third [Chisenhall], a kid at second [Jason Kipnis] and a kid at first [Santana]," Acta said. "He has to take charge and we like that ... the fire [he's shown]."
Said Santana: "Everything is fine. This is something that happens to teams. Me and him are friends."

Choo back, Kearns designated for assignment

Posted on: August 12, 2011 10:38 am

The Indians welcome back one outfielder and say goodbye to another, announcing on Twitter that they've activated Shin-Soo Choo from the disabled list and designated Austin Kearns for assignment.

Choo had been on the disabled list since June 25 with a fractured left thumb. Choo played in two games for Class A Lake County, going hitless in six at-bats. Choo was having a disappointing 2011, hitting .244/.333/.353 with five homers in 72 games this season.

Kearns was a great spring training story. He had a good 2010, hitting .272/.354/.419 in 84 games for the Indians before being traded to the Yankees for the stretch run. After the season, Kearns was a free agent and returned to the team that gave him a chance, Cleveland.

However, Kearns just wasn't the same in 2011. The 31-year-old former first-round pick was hitting .200/.302/.287 in 57 games for the Indians with just two home runs.

Now have LH in LF, CF, RF, 3B, 2B, DH and Cabrera, Santana hit both ways. Laporta or Marson, RH, starts most days. LH on the bench, Hannahan and Carrera. RH Duncan and Donald and Marson or LaPorta. I have one too many players; is Hannahan still on the team?

Who is moving to left? I assume Brantley moves to center.

Seems a bit sudden to activate him after 6 at bats in rehab.

It's not like Choo was playing that well before he got injured.

Not sorry to see Kearns gone though.
