Most sign of life I've seen from Francona all week.

First time in 40 years that the Indians have been shut out in a DH. Of course they haven't played that many since then.

Tito wanted to see if anybody was drinking beer and eating chicken in the clubhouse.

When I look at the roster, it isn't THAT bad....we shouldn't be THIS bad...we have holes, we have weakness, but we have strengths and balances too....

It's very unsettling to see such lackluster results.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't expect us to be running away with the division, but with they guys we have we should be 3rd place less than 5 back from first and solid in the wild card race.

Not sure what is going on in the club and with management....but it's dissappointing. Never thought to run away with the division.

But to be outscored 12-0 in a doubleheader......thats pathetic.

They just can't hit.

To me, the regression this year of Brantley, oh and Santana too, oh and Gomes too, and continued sucking of Bourn - with Urshula and Lindor combine to = very poor offense.

It's Kipnis and....Murphy? Pathetic.

The rotation can only do so much and are showing the strain IMO. It'd be nice to see them win a 6-4 outing or something like that.

Toru Murata - S - Indians

Toru Murata was knocked around in his major league debut on Sunday, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits over 3 1/3 innings.
The 30-year-old right-hander struck out two and walked one on the day. Part of the problem stemmed from his inability to keep the ball in the yard, with Chris Davis and Travis Snider each blasting solo homers in the fourth inning.

Well hell, Marcum could have done that.

Quite a discussion on social media tonight about the pass the Indians brass seemingly gets.

Time to face facts. Organization has been very mediocre since Hart left. If .500 is average then they are below average. Below mediocre.

I generally agree with Baron's
the roster, it isn't THAT bad....we shouldn't be THIS bad
. But you'd expect a few to overachieve [we have one, Kipnis], a few to underachieve [we have plenty] and most to play at their norms.

I seem to be the only one who lays nearly equal blame on the pitching. I think Kluber and Carrasco and Bauer and Salazar all are capable of being among league leaders in ERA as well as strikeouts. But all rank solidly in the middle of the pack. In current major league ball, a good pitcher has an ERA under 3. None of our are near.

IMO, this is it in a nutshell. Massive underachievement by Santana, Brantley, Bourn as well as Moss actually. Those are supposed to be the guts of the offense, and not one of them is doing the job.

To me, the front office is guilty at 3B. They counted on Chisenhall and that's a joke. But really, I would NOT blame the front office for counting on Santana, Brantley, Moss and Bourn to simply perform in the neighborhood of their career stats. And those hitters are not only below their career norms, they are way below (Brantley was actually on a career upswing until this year, and probably is injured more than he says)

On most teams, the hitting coach would likely be fired.

To summarize, I agree the roster was a reasonable one to start the year - EXCEPTING at 3B. (That was a brain cramp by the front office.)

This many hitters underachieving is killing us.

Carlos Santana - quit swinging for the fences. You are so much better than this.

I'll return to the pitchers:

Kluber is pitching below his ability; he's better than a 3.85 ERA. Carrasco has been around long enough and apparently "figured it all out" last year; his ERA should be much lower than 4. Bauer and Salazar are still in the "young and learning" phase of their careers and will give us an occasional top notch start. The 4 still should be good enough to carry the team, but they have not done as much as necessary.

In the pen, Allen is fine after a bad month; Atchison is gone; Shaw and Rpz and McAllister and Webb and Hagadone are all way too inconsistent.

Both innings started with leadoff doubles {kipnis and gomes} and both were driven in! by hits! {by Brantley and Kipnis}
