Scott Barnes 5 innings, 4 runs, 6 strikeouts. Chen Lee 1 1/3 scoreless with 2 K. Clippers lose.
Chad Huffman 2 doubles; Chisenhall 2 singles and his 4th error; Carrera 2 singles and 2 steals. Laporta hit by a pitch, leaves the game a couple innings later.

Aeros edge out a 2-1 win. 3 players in the Akron lineup are hitting over 182: Tim Fedroff whose two doubles leave his avg unchanged at 500, maybe he should go back to Columbus where he finihsed last season; Jared Goedart two hits; Juan Diaz a double. In fact all three of them have AAA experience. So does Nick Weglarz who managed two singles and cracked the 100 barrier.

On the mound the first promotion of the season: Cody Allen who has been retiring batters with ease at every level since last year's draft signing, debuts in Akron with 2 perfect innings and 2 strikeouts. Oldie Steven Wright started, fanned 7, walked 4 in 5 2/3.

Mike Rayl excels, with 7 innings of 2 hit ball, walks one, fans five, loses as Mudcats fall 1-0. Jesus Agullar singles and walks, he's at 407; Lowrey singles, 346; Tyler Holt 2 hits, 393.

More good pitch no hit in Eastlake, another 2-1 loss. Will Roberts lets in 2 in the first and that's it: 6 2/3 5 hits 1 walk 7 K. Lavisky with his 5th double. Levon still out.

On the mound, there is nothing flashy about Captains starting pitcher Will Roberts.

The 6-foot-4 right-hander toes the rubber, gets the signal from his catcher, rocks into the motion and, more often than not, pounds the strike zone with all of his four pitches.

Friday at Classic Park, in what ended as a 2-1 victory for the Bowling Green Hot Rods, Roberts was his usual efficient self.

After surrendering two runs in the top of the first inning, he settled down nicely and blanked the Hot Rods through the next 52⁄3 innings before handing the ball to reliever Cole Cook.

Roberts (1-1, 2.13 ERA) surrendered five hits, four of them singles. He finished with seven strikeouts and issued one walk.

The former University of Virginia standout, selected by the Indians in the fifth round of the June 2011 draft, has given up three runs on nine hits in two starts covering 122⁄3 innings.

"I always try to get early contact and pitch deep into games," Roberts said after Friday's loss, the fourth straight for the Captains (3-5).

Against the Hot Rods and in his first start, against Fort Wayne on April 7, Roberts said he kept his fastball down while using his cutter, curve and change-up to keep opposing batters off-stride.

The Hot Rods did their damage early, getting an RBI triple from Kes Carter and an RBI single by Cameron Seitzer, the 22-year-old son of former Indians designated hitter and infielder Kevin Seitzer.

Because the Captains didn't make much noise with the bats for the second straight evening, those two run stood and Roberts absorbed the tough-luck loss.

Lake County dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jerrud Sabourin doubled with one out and rode home on Todd Hankins' RBI triple.

In his postgame comments, Captains manager Dave Wallace made three references to the mound presence shown by Roberts.

"The first inning didn't go the way he planned, but he stayed with it and threw a great game for us," Wallace said. "Will is a college guy who has a lot of composure. The fact he stays on an even keel will be big for him throughout his career."

Wallace isn't pushing the panic button over the four straight losses.

"Our goal is to come in and get better every day," Wallace said. "Do that and the ‘Ws' and ‘Ls' will take care of themselves."

Chen back behind the plate for the Aeros today, and the opposition notices; 3 steals (one CS) in the first 4th innings and Akron with Soto pitching trail 4-1; Aeros have failed to hit so far.

Only 2 in lineup are hitting over 200: Bellows 222, Fedroff 478

LRod and Lindor combined for a Captains run, but they trail 6-1 in the 3rd. Joe Colon is out already.

Final score: 8-4. Lindor with 3 hits; LRod a double and a triple; Monsalve 2 hits. Myles 2, including a double. 3rd baseman Leonard Castillo commits three errors (5 for the season) and goes hitless, now at 083. Maybe my guy Robe Garcia will get a chance again at third, of course he's only hitting 151 while playing second, and has only one double and no other xb hits. He was far more prolific in Arizona last summer.

5 in the first for the Clippers on a whole bunch of singles, a couple walks and 2 run double by Petit. We'll see if that's enough for Chris Seddon.

They win it 9-4. Cord Phelps with 4 hits, one a double, he's hitting 357. Trevor Crowe 2 singles, 2 walks, 375. Canzler, hero of early spring training, is 0-5 with 3 K. Hagadone 1 1/3 scoreless innings; anyone looking for a LH reliever?

3 run ph homer by Jared Goedart keys Aeros 7-5 win. Rohlinger also homers, and singles. 2 hits apiece for Chen (a double, his first XB hit) and Kyle Bellows (I think he was my breakout pick about 4 years back, maybe he'll reward me yet? doubtful). Fedroff a single and 2 walks, OBP is now at 618. Soto 4 runs in 4 innings. Ryan Larson, 3 scoreless innings, Bryan Price 2 IP 1 run; 3 K by each of the relievers

3 run homer for Carlos Moncrief and the Mudcats lead 6-2. Lowrey walks and doubles in his first 2 AB's. Wolters hitting 129, would probably be better off in Lake County. He's only 19 and skipped over Low A ball. Although I like Robel Garcia who's playing 2nd for the Captains, Wolters' development is more important. Let's see if Ross Atkins moves Tony back where he belongs.

7-3 win for the Cats. Goodnight 5 innings, 3 runs, 1 K. Shawn Armstrong, 2011 draftee, moves up from 2 LC appearances and pitches 2 shutout innnings. Lowrey adds a sedoncd hit. 2 also for Ronnie Rodriguez.

Carolina lost 9-2. DannySalazar not explaining why he's on the 40 man roster; 4 innings, 3 run. BrettBrach 1 1/3 6 runs; Jose Flores 1 2/3 2K -- he was picked in the Rule 5 winter of 2010 and returned to us, must be a hard thrower.

Tyler Holt singles, doubles and caught stealing for the 4th time vs 1 success.
Tony Wolters a rare single and also caught stealing.
Jake Lowery always has something in his boxscore line: this time a walk.

Ancient Aeros with a 6-2 win. 2 hits by oldies Abraham and Goedart. 3 by Chen, one a double. Team only has 4 starters so the work was shared by a corps of relievers. Bryce Stowell would like to return to AAA, he fanned 7 in 3 innings, 2 hits, no walks. Fastrising Cody Allen fans 2 in 2 scoreless.
