It's something for fans of minor league baseball to spend some time on during the off season. That's why I like it. An occasional important roster move occurs, e.g. loss of Anthony Santander, or the pickup of Trevor Stephan. Adds a bit of kindling to the "Hot Stove" league.

Cleveland's prospect list now includes several kids with significant power potential.

"Grade 60" DeLauter, Noel and De Los Santos [didn;t realize DeLauter's power grade was higher than his "hit" grade]
Grade 55: Valera, Rodriguez, Ralphy Velazquez
Grade 50: Manzardo [might want to boost that up after his fall performance], Kahlil Watson

Of those 8, 3 came from other teams; 2 from the past 2 drafts. There's a swing on who they're going after at least in the minorleague level

Ohtani snatched right from under Antonetti's nose by the Dodgers for $700M

No truth to the rumor the G's offered more money but Ohtani liked the West Coast.

If he doesn't like Northeast Ohio he doesn't know what he's missing.

MLB has to do something about the Ohtani deal.

Ohtani is deferring $680M of his $700M until 2034 and will be playing for the Dodgers for $2M a year for the next ten years.

Dodgers beat the luxury tax and have all kinds of money to throw around on the rest of the team.

In response to the Ohtani deal, Guardians sign 31 year old very bad RH Ben Lively to a major league contract.
"The Guardians added some pitching depth, signing the free-agent right-hander to a 2024 big league deal. Lively, 31, split the 2023 season between Cincinnati and Triple-A Louisville, posting a mark of 4-7 with a 5.38 ERA in 19 games (12 starts) for the Reds."

They'll have to squeeze some one off the roster to add Hedges. Perhaps they'll surrender the similarly unskilled free agent signing from last month, 1B Alfonso Rivas

Bethancourt was the roster spot that Hedges took.

Guardians drafted Ben Lively in the 26th round of the 2010 draft out of Gulf Coast High School he didn't sign. He has the 4th highest bWAR of any player the Guards selected after Pomeranz, Cody Allen, and Tony Walters.

#Guardians will need to open another 40-man roster spot when they official announce the signing of (C) Austin Hedges. The 40-man was at 39 until the signing of RHP Ben Lively today.

Looks like Lively took the open 40 spot from Bethancourt and Hedges will take the spot of someone else.

Giants out of CF market. They signed Jung Hoo Lee. I guess we need to look at teams who lost out for market for Straw.

7. Jung Hoo Lee, CF
Age: 25
2023 (Kiwoom Heroes, KBO): Stats

Team prediction: Giants
Lee was the player most-cited by executives as ranked too low in my initial top free agents list, and the main reason for that was I’d never seen him in person. However, the industry has clearly conveyed to me that he’s a top center-field target for every team with a need at the position. Major-league scouts are split on his hit tool: Some believe he’ll hit right out of the gate; others think he’ll have more of a learning curve and could take a year or two to adjust to MLB pitching. The best part of Lee’s hit tool is his contact rate and ability to draw walks. (He had more walks than strikeouts over seven seasons in the KBO.) He’s a plus center fielder with plus range and a strong arm. He gets good jumps on balls and takes good routes. He’s an above-average runner with long strides but is not a base-stealing threat. The Giants and Padres are the two teams with the biggest needs in center field and both have been linked to Lee in recent days.

Best fits: Giants, Padres
Contract prediction: Five years, $92.5 million
