I don't know the Giants; who do they have to fit our needs, i.e. a right handed RF with power? and perhaps experienced reliever?

Hoping they would need Straw ! Return ? Not much.

The G's are going to have to pay somebody big bucks to take Straw never mind get something back.

Popcorn Straw made 2.9M in 2023 but will make 4.9M in 2024 and 6.4M in 2025 and 7.4M in 2026.....all guaranteed.

Nice contract.

some team with great offense and weak defense in the corners; willing to pay that much? not likely; we'll have to take back another big contract

All of those numbers are nothing in todays major league baseball. Utility OF pay for most teams.

Straw was Tito's pet. Tito is gone. Straw should be also.

Cheaper alternatives to Straw are a dime-a-dozen

I see the GM Meeting in Scottsdale broke up earlier than schedule because a bunch of them got sick. Food poisoning? Covid? Nothing released.

Should be some news in the next 2 days with the 40 man roster needing to be set.

I see Kelly is still on the roster; he's the obvious cut to make room for Espino.
Not sure if they'll be adding many more this year. Some relievers possible; possible cuts would be Gaddis, Karinchak?, the guy they just added for some reason added who couldn't hit for Pittsburgh?

Guardians sign as a minor league free agent -- not to the 40 man roster -- a really bad 29 year RH pitcher Adam Oller.
Major league debut with the A's in 2022: 2-8 with 6.30 ERA 17 homers in 64 innings. His AAA ERA in 2023 was nearly identical: 6.22
9 games with Seattle in 2023 ERA: 10.09 5 homers in 19 2/3 WHIP 2.08
Admittedly he was very good in 2017 in the former NYPL short season A league with a 1.59 ERA. Not very good since.
20th round pick of the Pirates and has been with several organizations since then.

one would assume that addition of Espino to the roster could happen sometime before the last minute

apparently Oller was a teammate and maybe friend of Vogt. So nice to let them hang out together in Goodyear as long as we don't have to see him pitching in Cleveland

I would take a guess that the Guardians were trying to trade Quantrill but teams kept asking for Bieber instead. So the FO decided to put Quantrill up for auction to speed the process along and get out in front of free agent market. Worst case scenario they shed his salary. Best someone makes a decent offer.

back to the question, in one of these folders, would I rather Quantrill or R. Lopez; Q was a pretty decent reliever his first year with Cleveland and I think he could fill a role similar to Lopez if we kept him, and as a reserve starter. But that's moot at this point

Cade Smith has posted some very impressive strikeout totals although his debut in AAA last summer was unimpressive with an over 4 ERA. Sort of like Tim Herrin who was added last year he could potentially be a srong arm for the bullpen.

Daniel Espino who was also added to the roster has been projected as recently as April 2022 as perhaps the best pitching prospect in baseball; but has greater chance to never pitch again. If we're looking for a hint of our bright future ahead, it will be full and complete recovery for Espino. Add him to the pitchng mix and we have a great rotation.
