Certainly one of the longest, craziest ball games you'll ever see. One of those days that reminds me that absolutely anything is possible in baseball, it's not over till it's over, and just because you haven't see it happen in almost 60 years of watching the sport doesn't mean it might not happen today.

Brantley, by far, has been the tribe's mvp so far this season. Gotta like his approach against left handed pitchers. Very nice compact swing especially against the breaking balls.

Brantley, Murphy, Chisenhall, Aviles, and to a lesser extent, Cabrera are keeping our flickering hopes alive.

The most exciting thing about the sweep is the way we manhandled Verlander, Scherzer, and Nathan.

The Cleveland Indians today announced they have activated designated hitter Jason Giambi from the 15-day Disabled List and recalled both right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer and infielder Justin Sellers from Triple-A Columbus. To make room for them on the roster they have optioned first baseman Jesus Aguilar, left-handed pitcher T.J. House and infielder Jose Ramirez to Columbus.

Giambi has been on the 15-day Disabled List since May 4th after suffering a right calf strain vs. the Chicago White Sox one day earlier. He has been on the DL twice this season and is 0-for-10 in four games with the Indians thus far in 2014. He is also 0-for-4 in limited time in spring training and 0-for-8 in his rehab assignment at Double-A Akron in April.

Bauer, 23, has spent most of the 2014 season at Columbus, going 4-1 with a 2.15 ERA in 7 starts (46.0 IP, 36 H, 11R/ER, 14 BB, 44 K, .216 AVG). He is currently 6th in the International League in ERA, tied for 11th in strikeouts and 9th in WHIP (1.09). During his stay with the Clippers he has limited batters to a .147 (5-for-34) mark with runners in scoring position as lefties are hitting .195 (17-for-87) off him for the year. Trevor made one spot start on April 9th for Cleveland in a 2-1 loss vs. San Diego (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R/1ER, 2 BB) fanning a career-high eight Padres in the effort. He is starting tonight vs. Detroit.

Sellers has spent virtually the entire 2014 season with Columbus, hitting .227 (32-for-141) with 7 doubles, 1 triple and 15 RBI in 37 games. The versatile infielder has appeared in 29 games at shortstop, 2 games apiece at second and third base and 4 games in left field. Sellers was acquired on March 2nd from the LA Dodgers and optioned to Columbus at the conclusion of spring training. He was with the Indians from April 10-12th but did not appear in a game while Lonnie Chisenhall was on the Paternity List.

The activation of Sellers and optioning out Ramirez is more about the way the playing time is being distributed in Cleveland at second base. With Mike Aviles getting a very large amount of playing time there the Indians have been unable to get Ramirez much time, so they prefer he go to Columbus where he can play everyday and use the more limited prospect Sellers in low use role as a 25th player on the roster.

Bauer is sliding into the rotation for Danny Salazar who was optioned out a few days ago while House was only a short term extra arm for the pen. The Giambi move is the only real questionable move as the fact the team called up a DH-only left-handed hitter for a team starving for defense and help against left-handed pitching makes little sense, but they are hoping he can help be an influence on the field rather than just in the clubhouse.

After taking the first two games of this series earlier in the week, the Indians have completed their first 3-game sweep over the Tigers since May 22-24, 2012 here at Progressive Field…also marks the Tribe’s first series win over the Tigers since May 10-12, 2013 (2-1) at Detroit, and the first in Cleveland since July 24-26, 2012 (2-1).
The 5 hour, 16 minute game marks the longest game at Progressive Field since August 30, 2008, a 14-12 loss to the Tigers in 5:33…the 13-inning game also marks the longest at Progressive Field since August 7, 2013, a 6-5 loss to the Tigers in 14 innings.
The Indians used 9 pitchers in today’s 13-inning marathon, one shy of the club record of 10 on September 18, 2012 vs. Minnesota (12.0 IP).
Indians offense plated 15 runs off Detroit’s starting rotation in the 3-game series, batting .375 (30-80) with 12 extra-base hits (11-2B, 1-HR); Tigers rotation registered a 7.50 ERA (15 ER/18.0 IP) in the 3-game series.
Cleveland improves to 4-1 in the season series vs. Detroit, as the two clubs split a pair of mid-April tilts at Comerica Park earlier this season; Tribe went just 4-15 vs. Detroit in 2013 (1-9 at Progressive Field)…the Indians are now 14-9 against American League Central opponents, winning 6 straight and 10 of last 12 games within the division.
Cleveland has gone 15-11 at Progressive Field in 2014, 2nd-best A.L. home record behind Detroit…Indians have now reeled off 3 consecutive home victories and have won 6 of 9 and 10 of their last 15 here in Cleveland.

ZACH McALLISTER

Faced 14 batters across just 2.0 innings and allowed 5 runs on 5 hits including 2 home runs before turning the game over to Scott Atchison in the 3rd (ND, 2.0 IP +2, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO, 2 HR, 59 pitches/36 strikes)…McAllister entered today’s start 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA (3 ER/18.2 IP) in 3 starts vs. American League Central opponents this season.
McAllister was coming off a career-low 1.1 innings in his last start on Friday vs. Oakland and has now surrendered 12 earned runs over his last 3.1 innings…owns a 19.96 ERA (17 ER/7.2 IP) over his last 3 starts.

MICHAEL BOURN

Notched his second consecutive multi-hit effort (8th of the season), finishing 3-6 with a pair of singles, a double and 2 runs scored…marks his second 3-hit performance of the season, first since April 23 vs. Kansas City.
Bourn has hit safely in 5-straight games and 21 of his last 24 overall – batting .284 (29-102) with 3 doubles, 4 triples, a home run, 10 RBI and 8 runs scored over that stretch.

LONNIE CHISENHALL

Recorded his first home run of the season in the bottom of the 3rd off Tigers starter Max Scherzer, extending the Indians early lead to 7-5…Chisenhall has hit in 4 straight games, going 6-13 with 2 RBI over that stretch…finished the homestand 6-14 with 3 extra-base hits, 3 walks and 2 RBI.
Chisenhall is 20 for his last 55 (.364) spanning over 18 games, notching 5 doubles, 5 RBI, 5 walks and 8 runs scored over that span.

BRANTLEY MATCHES HOME HIT STREAK RECORD

With his 2-run single in the bottom of the second, Michael Brantley has now hit safely in 18 consecutive home games, matching the longest home hit streak by an Indians player in Progressive Field history (1994-2014)…Kenny Lofton (1996) and Robbie Alomar (2000) each recorded 18-gamers…Alomar’s record-tying 18-game stretch in 2000 was the last home streak longer than 17 games…longest hit streak in Progressive Field history by any player is an active 22-game stretch by Elvis Andrus of the Texas Rangers (has hit safely in all 37 career games vs. Cleveland).
Last home hit streak longer than 18 games by an Indians player came back in 1984 when Julio Franco hit safely in 19 straight at Cleveland Stadium from June 8-22.
Over the course of the streak, the longest home hit streak in the Majors this season, Brantley has hit .400 (30-72) with 6 doubles, 6 home runs and 20 RBI…has hit safely in 22 of 25 home games overall.

BRANTLEY MAKES MORE HISTORY

Recorded his 7th career 4-hit game this afternoon (first of the season), finishing 4-7 with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
More notable, Brantley became just the sixth Indians player dating back to 1914 to notch at least 4 hits, 3 RBI and 2 stolen bases in the same game, the first such effort since Frankin Gutierrez on July 16, 2007 in an 11-10 loss to the White Sox here in Cleveland…others accomplishing the feat for Cleveland were Joe Carter (6/10/86), Chuck Hinton (6/27/65), Lew Fonseca (4/18/29) and Charlie Jamieson (6/15/25).
Brantley is the first big-leaguer to accomplish the feat since Alex Rios on October 3, 1999 for the White Sox at Detroit.
Brantley played all 13 innings of this afternoon’s game in left-field and did not record a single defensive chance of any kind; Chuck Hinton of Washington holds the Major League record, recording no chances in left field in an 18-inning game on June 14, 1963 vs. the Indians at Cleveland Municipal Stadium.

Bourn and Cabrera although neither has been great have performed pretty near their statistical averages, except Bourn doesn't steal like he used to or walk quite as often. If we could get something like personal norms out of Swisher and Santana the offense would be OK. [Assuming Murphy and Chisenhall don't return to their norms]
