Colorado perspective:

All this goes back to drafts that have been hollow with top end pitching... This helps fill in gaps...

But he's been average for a full season now... And team isn't very good. ... Something was going to give...

Listen I understand the frustration. Ubaldo was proven... I don't like idea of trading him...

If the pitchers don't work out, the deal won't... But need time to know... Pomeranz and White are big-time prospects. So we'll see

8:42pm: The Padres aren't close to completing a deal that would send Ludwick to Cleveland, according to Dan Hayes of the North County Times (on Twitter).

I don't know. We are getting a proven major league starter, right? Who is under team control for 2 more seasons. For two very promising minor leaguers. It's the kind of trade teams like the Red Sox or the Phillies make all the time. I don't know when, if?, the Indians were aggressively dealing prospects. It's more surprising than anything to me. It is as if WE were trading for Cliif Lee instead of trading hime away.
But unfortunatley I don't see how it wins us the divsiion, since we still have no hitting.
Well, maybe the Real Matt LaPorta has now finaly appeared and we have the big RH bat we need.

BTW, Joe Gardner entered the season as our #9 prospect and hasn' pitched very well. McBride is a very good power hitting AA lifer.

After completing this trade, the only pitchers in our preason Top 10 prospects who're still in the organization areJason Knapp who is missing another season and Nick Hagadone who has been OK off and on as a reliever in AAA. No. 11 Ryan Blair has had a bust of a season. That makes Felix Sterling recently promoted to Lake County and Arizona League standout Elvis Araujo our only serious major league starting pitcher prospects and they're 19 or 20. Otherwise we have a whole bunch of good relievers and some hitters in Class A. And whoever we sign this year. Result is a very very thin farm system, but maybe Jiminez is an ace who'll love to make his career on the southern shore of Lake Erie.

need some perspective.. in reality, how good was White. I don't follow the minor league folder enough.
What kind of year did Jimenez have? Poor start, decent recovery?
Seems like alot to pay for one guy who may or may not be a stud.

I don't usually agree with Keith Law very often, but this is how I feel right now:
keithlaw
"We want 2 significant prospects for our pitcher who has suddenly lost 3 mph off his fastball, and you can't do a physical." "It's a deal!"

Head spinning. I would have preferred a big RH bat for two first round picks plus but what do I know?
Costs, as usual, have a lot to do with this.
Just hope Jiminez is not really hurt and can be a class starter for 2-3 years.

Although this makes me feel a little better:
hoynsie paul hoynes
Ubaldo Jimenez must pass physical for deal to be OK'd by Indians.

Still a steep price to pay. Would be happier if a second player was added on the Rockies end.

Now someone would have to be dropped from the 25 man roster-
Any suggestions?

Dillion Howard probably gets into the org top 5 if/when he signs.
Could also see the Indians throw some big money at Dillion Peters, who is a long shot to sign but also has a good arm.
