Happy Holidays everyone.

Thanks for helping me keep up on the Tribe.

We just traveled from the East End of Long Island to Green Valley AZ for the last time - selling the NY home and become permanent AZ residents - and just in time from the looks of it...

Now that Miller and Hedges are gone; and the Padres career of Mike Clevinger is finished, here's a statistical comparison of the deal using WAR. I don't think this includes defense although I am not sure exactly what the charts I am looking at mean. Hedges of course had no value to Cleveland but did provide quality defensively.

Anyway FWIW, and these do not include the final month or two of 2020 after the deal when Clevinger got in a solid 19 IP for the Padres before his injury

Clevinger
2021 DNP 2022 0.4 PADRES NET 0.4

Hedges
2021 0.1 2022 -0.6 Total -0.5
Miller
2021 -1.0 2022 0.6 Total -0.4 [I can't see Miller having given the Gs more value in 2022 than Hedges]
Arias
2022 -0.2 Total -0.2
Naylor
2021 0.0 2022 1.7 Total 1.7
Quantrill
2021 2.0 2022 2.2 Total 4.2
CLEVELAND NETS 4.8

We still have Q and Naylor and Arias and perhaps Cantillo will make the majors some day too
Looking retroactively, a 1 for1 swap of Clevinger for any of the 6 would not have been a bad deal for Cleveland..

My wife thinks it's time to take down the Christmas tree but I keep telling her to wait a little longer. I check each morning to see if Santa Antonetti has any presents for me. I hate sweeping up lumps of coal but so far that's it.

I'll give him a couple of more days.

All decorations, trees and outdoor items are packed away in North Carolina. Probably at least 4 weeks away from any acquisitions based on attrition and bargains.

BRAZIL'S Christ the Redeemer statue was illuminated in green and yellow last night as the nation mourns the death of Pele.

Santos studies the possibility of removing Pelé's number 10

Three days of mourning have been announced by President Jair Bolsonaro after the football legend's death yesterday.

The proposal will be submitted to the Deliberative Council of the club

Santos will study the possibility of removing the number 10 that Pelé immortalized, who died on Thursday at the age of 82, the president of the Brazilian club, Andrés Rueda, announced this Friday.

The removal of the 10 shirt would be "an excellent tribute" to Pelé, according to the president of Santos, Andrés Rueda, in an interview on Bandnews FM radio.

The proposal will be submitted to the Club's Deliberative Council, in which a maximum of 300 members participate, including the founders, other elected officials and honoraries.

Santos will not use the number 10 from next January, provisionally, until a final decision is made in the Deliberative Council, according to Rueda.

Pelé, who died this Thursday at the age of 82, wore the legendary Santos 10 shirt between 1956 and 1974, before being transferred to the New York Cosmos.

Subsequently, the Santos number 10 has been worn by other players, Neymar, Gabigol or Diego Ribas.

I'm waiting for news they're bringing back Brian Shaw for the umpteenth time.
