No matter who starts it's pretty obviously going to end up a bullpen game.

Thanks to Civale for saving the bullpen last night.

You're right he is as good an option as anyone at present
Only 8 innings experience above Class A is why I would prefer we need not to rely on him

Kyle McCarty has been Columbus' best starter this month

There's always Josh Tomlin, having a fine year with the Braves, he's cut his HR total down to only 4 in 23 Innings drastic improvement from his final season with Cleveland when 25 homers flew out in 70 innings.

Otherwise his ERA is lower than McKenzie's or Allen's and he sure walks fewer
23 innings
34 hits
16 runs, earned
5 walks
16 strikeouts.

Braves might accept one of our more modest middle infield prospects

Thank you; I try, sometimes too hard.

It is disappointing however to find that Josh's ERA is lower than 2 of the 3 guys who have filled the back end of our rotation and just about on par with Big Sam

It's a bit early to speculate on the All Star game, but why not? With league leading 7 wins and the best ERA among Cleveland starters Civale would have a great case if they were choosing up sides now. And he was the starter I was worried about coming into this year!

No surgery for Plesac.

Ernie Clement got an afternoon in the dugout and I think major league minimum prorated salary of about $3500 [I think it's just game 2 that gets the 27th man or was he there for 2 games; if so $7000 day unless they have have a discounted salary for 27th man ] He's back to Columbus and McKenzie returns for the day.

With only 2 roles determined in the once-formidable rotation, some mix of McKenzie Hentges Morgan and Quantrill will have to fill 3 spots, 2 when there are days off, until Plesac returns. When it is that supposed to be?

This certainly is not a pennant contending team now. In fact they deserve credit for a winning record with little offense, decimated starting pitching.

Sunday highlights as the Clippers lose their 9th in 10 games; Lake County also on the downslide; Lynchburg doing OK, Akron the steadiest.

Columbus starting rotation opened up with McCarty, still there; Moss ineffective and mild injury; Allen awful, on break now; Mejia and Morgan in Cleveland. The only consistant hitter was Miller; then Zimmer started up. Both are gone and Mercado Bradley Jones Arias are all not up to expectations. Oh vet catcher Lavernway is doing fine.

BA lines:

CLE AAA #2 Nolan Jones, 3B 2 1 0 0 0.189 2 BB (16),

1st base solution appears at hand if they'll finally go there: we have accumulated a bit more OF offense as the season has moved on; Harold Ramirez is helpful, Brad Zimmers may be too.
OF defense is weak, so obvious alteration is to make Naylor almost exclusively a 1st baseman, with Eddie in left field, Zimmer and Harold and when he's back Luplow in Center and Right. Luplow is incredibly inconsistant but better than Bauers. And when Giminez comes back to Cleveland Amed could join the OF platoon. Honestly the Bauers experiment has gone on long enough; he has had a bit of a rally but remains below 200 and below 600 OPS. Enough is enough

civ - we all have had enough of Bauers as a starter but remember he can play outfield too. So a backup outfielder and 1B bench slot may work too.

And who knows he actually may hit eventually.

he started hitting a few weeks ago, soared over 200 and then plunged back. He hasn't had a good season yet.
I suppose he might someday, like Naquin the Reds but at least Tyler had some very good stretches as well as very bad ones. Bauers has been much more consistent.

Hope you are seated when you read this:

Indians designated 1B Jake Bauer for assignment.

Bauers has been a colossal disappointment, hitting .190/.277/.280 with two homers across 113 plate appearances this season, so it's finally time for the organization to give Bobby Bradley an extended look at the cold corner.

There's a strong possibility that another organization is willing to take a chance on him, since he's still only 25-years-old, but he's been a sub-replacement level performer for the last several seasons.
