Fernando Ravelo

Editorial

Fernando Ravelo should resign as manager of the Licey

After this new failure, it is wise to ask your general manager Fernando Ravelo to resign.

Reasons?.

1 - In recent times he has found it difficult to find a successful manager.

2 - In recent times he has found it difficult to get quality reinforcements.

3 - In recent times, his relationships with major league teams have plummeted.

4 - In the recent past he has not exploited the young talent of the team and has clung to a group of players whose careers are over.

5 - Levels of tolerance for some players have beaten the team.

6 - In the recent past he has not been persuaded to play high-level players.

Ravelo has merit in Licey by past achievements, but today he is seen exhausted.

It's time to say goodbye.

It's a difficult position to be placed in if you don't win. Winning is just the name of the game in winterball.

Baldwin dominant as Caribes rout Aguilas

Former Twins Minor Leaguer strikes out 10, improves to 3-1

Venezuelan Winter League

Anzoategui 8, Zulia 1

Andrew Baldwin, who played in the Twins system last year after spending five with the Mariners, struck out 10 over seven one-run innings Thursday as he improved to 3-1 in the postseason. His playoff ERA stands at 2.96. Former Minor Leaguer Luis Ugueto led the Caribes offense by smacking two doubles and driving in two, while Gustavo Molina (Yankees) also plated a pair. Former Orioles farmhand Tony Alvarez drove in the Aguilas' lone run with a homer in the fifth.

Magallanes 5, Aragua 4

Adonis Garcia collected two homers, a double, three runs and two RBIs for the Navegantes. Angels infielder Alberto Callaspo also went deep. Former Mexican Leaguer Luis Landaeta stayed hot for Magallanes, going 3-for-4 as he raised his playoff average to .525. Ramon Castro (Mexican League) led the Tigres by going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Dominican Winter League

Cibaenas 5, Licey 4

A night after launching his first homer in the Dominican League, Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes recorded his first multi-hit performance in seven games, going 2-for-4 with a double and his second RBI. Dodgers farmhand Elian Herrera also enjoyed a strong performance, singling twice and scoring three times out of the leadoff spot for the Aguilas. Major League veteran Ronny Paulino carried the Tigres, homering twice and knocking in three to raise his playoff average to .324.

Australian Baseball League

•Andrew Campbell (LF, Brisbane Bandits): 0-for-4, BB, 3 K, PO. The three day lag between Brisbane’s last game on Sunday and their game last night apparently cooled down the hot hitting Campbell. Coming into the game he had hits in 14 of his last 15 games and was 6-for-12 in his last 3 games.

•Ryan Battaglia (C, Brisbane Bandits): 0-for-4. Battaglia hit his first homer in his last game on Sunday. The bad news is he went hitless in 4 at bats, though the good news is he did not strike out in any of those at bats as he was averaging a strikeout every 2.7 at bats coming into the game.

Dominican Winter League

•Robinson Tejeda (RP, Tigres del Licey): 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. Tejeda faced just two batters, but a lot happened while he was on the mound. He came into the game in the 4th inning with 1 out and runners on 1st and 3rd. The first batter he faced hit a sacrifice fly that scored a run (not charged to him) and while pitching to the second batter the runner that was on first stole second and scored because of a throwing error by the catcher that allowed him to advance to third and a throwing error by the center fielder that allowed him to score. The second batter eventually singled and Tejeda was replaced. And so ends his winter ball season.

Venezuela Winter League

•Jose Lopez (3B, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1-for-3, R, RBI, BB. A better outing for Lopez who reached base in 2 of his 4 plate appearances and also ended an 0-for-14 stretch with a single in the 2nd inning.

Is using another name, other than your name given at birth, a crime in the US?

Good question Sea.

I don't see the big deal personally. Afterall, the pitcher was paying the real Fausto for the rights to his name. You can't consider that any form of identity theft. Some poor bastard probably decided his present lifestyle wasn't adequate enough to suit his needs anymore and tried to extort some additional funds from the pitcher.

If there is a crime, the real Carmona should be imprisoned for blackmail. Good for the pitcher Fausto. At least he showed some nads and decided enough was enough and refused to give in to a blackmailer. The real Fausto will have to go out and find a real job now. Good luck, guy!

Bandits take one from the Bite

Brisbane remains in playoff contention after taking second game of the five-game set

ADELAIDE, SA -

The Brisbane Bandits benefited from some timely hits, as well as costly errors from the Adelaide Bite to take down the home team by a score of 9-4 at Coopers Stadium in Round 11 of Australian Baseball League action on Friday night.

The Bandits opened up the scoring in the second. Wade Dutton hit his third home run of the year, a two-out solo shot to put Brisbane on the board.

The early lead didn't last long however, as Adelaide came back with one of its own in the bottom of the inning. James Jones hit his seventh long ball of the season, knotting the game at one.

In the third inning, the Bandits were the beneficiaries of some luck and several misplays by the Bite. Brisbane capitalized for six runs in the frame on a total of five hits, a passed ball, an error, a wild pitch and two dropped fly balls. Josh Roberts and Brad Dutton each notched an RBI in the inning, and Matt Roxburgh drove in two runs.

The visitors added to their total again in the fourth. Alan Schoenberger reached first on another Bite error and was driven in after a double from Roberts and a sacrifice fly from David Sutherland. The double was the 15th of the season for the right fielder, giving him the league lead and matching the ABL's season leader from last year.

That was the end of the night for Adelaide starter Paul Mildren. Mildren (4-3) got through 3 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs (three earned) on seven hits, walking two batters and striking out four. He was taken out of the game in favour of Derek Miramontes.

Sean Jarrett appeared to get into some trouble in the fourth. Brisbane's reliever-turned-starter allowed a double to Denny Almonte to open the frame. Calvin Anderson followed with a home run, his ninth of the season. James Jones then reached first on a bunt single and came around to score on a double from Scott Gladstone.

It seemed a visit to the mound from pitching coach Gary Nilsson was all Jarrett needed, as the American right-hander retired the next three batters to get out of the inning. But some damage was done, as the Bite cut the Bandits lead in half, bringing the score to 8-4.

Jarrett (3-2) went six innings in total, giving up four earned runs, scattering nine hits and striking out four. The righty's transition to the starting rotation from the bullpen has been a very successful one for the Bandits, as he's gone six innings in both of his starts, and helped his team to two victories.

Rhys Niit came on in relief for Brisbane and threw three scoreless innings to finish out the game and collect his second save of the year.

Prior to the ABL action on Friday night, Brisbane's General Manager got back on the field, taking part in a special Legends Game event. Paul Gonzalez played third base and was the only legend to hit a home run on the night.
