Matthew Joyce was this year? Just spring training right? I don't think he made it to the season opener

He was cut before the opener, a week or two.

I have to go to work but Rays are beating A's 5-1 in the 9th, on the back of two Yandy Diaz home runs.

Here's hoping we don't make any more stupid trades like that one this winter too.

Definitely put that one in the yuck column. Ouch for sure.

If you're going to fire those bullets, not all of them are going to connect.

I think there's still reason to have hope for Bauers though, and getting Santana back was just golden.

Again, the only reason Cleveland got the 3 teams involved was so Tampa could send the cash to Seattle that it wanted. But it was essentially Bauers for Yandy.

But I totally agree, you're gonna swing and miss once in a while. Indians do a great job with their trading. Kluber, Carrasco, Clevinger, Santana, Mercado, and Reyes. Where would we be?

I don't have a problem adding a guy like Bauers, he may end up a solid player. I just will never understand trading away a clear talented offensive player like Yandy Diaz. He would have came in really handy this year with all the injuries in the infield. Would probably have been playing last night instead of watching.

I don't now if anyone saw the Yandy Power finally showing up. He looked like a 300 hitter with plenty of doubles and a handful of homers i.e. a very solid hitter but lacking power. Something happened to him and he got the ball in the air, and over the fences.

Yes,he went to a team that wanted him.

Not true, I remember arguing with you and Seagull both about this topic. I remember specifically pointing out that he had a higher SLG% at same levels as Jose and Lindor did. That his power would come too. That some of his doubles would turn into homers. That he had biceps the size of melons so had a hard time believing the above would not happen. Etc...

But I also said he needed to be traded cause it was obvious for some stupid reason Tito didn't want to play him. Glad he found a home and gets to play every day. When he's not on the I.L. any way...

Yeah, my first impression was that he was a 3B and we had Jose there signed for a few more years.

But yet it's pretty obvious next season he could have been at 3B with Jose at 2B.

I don't see any way around the "brain cramp" angle on this deal. Plain and simple.

But as we pointed out it is one of the very few by a front office that has stocked this team with some pretty crazy good trades and recently and influx of quality SP depth through the system.

So many organizations would kill for an influx like Civale, Plesac and Plutko and of course you can add Bieber.

As for Yandy....live and learn guys.

Indians did not think much of Diaz's defense. In their mind he had 3 positions. First base, DH or outfield. Diaz said no outfield. Francona marked him as expendable.

I knew you foresaw the power HB, not any of the "expert" scouting reports though!

Although I DO think this was a definite factor in the deal, if Tampa sees him as serviceable at both 3B AND 1B (in a playoff game no less) then either it was an excuse or failed judgement.

For me, I believe they liked the long term upside of Bauers and also wanted to trim salary in the 3 way. Probably a mistake but Bauers hopefully turns out next season.

OR Kevin Cash is now slipping some serious dough under the table to Tito.

I do apologize for bringing it up. I know I harped on it more than enough this year. Guess I can beat a dead horse with the best of them.

But I will say, Yandy Diaz won the award for best defensive 3rd baseman his year in, I think it was the Carolina League. Civ can correct me if I’m wrong, may have been Eastern League.

I have never believed the reports that his glove wasn’t good enough. I watched him plenty. He was a very solid 3rd baseman. (He just sucked in the OF. Terrible out there)

As bulked up as he is I don’t think it was stretch to think one day a few years down the line he may end up a 1st baseman though. And maybe the Tribe wasn’t smart enough to think his power would develop enough for 1st base.

Me personally, I think he’s going to end up another Santana. Maybe not as many walks, but good OBP none the less.

Another Santana is a pretty good major leaguer! I'm surprised only by the power, it was clear he'd be a top notch on base machine. Surprised that it took him so long to get to his power and that it came on so dramatically. I assume that his coaching in Tampa must have helped him reach his new level.
