Were they? He's hitting so badly that Mejia is getting plenty more playing time.

Report: San Diego Padres still interested in Cleveland Indians' pitchers, trade unlikely before Opening Day
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the San Diego Padres remain interested in Cleveland Indians' pitchers Corey Kluber and Trevor Bauer.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- On Monday, the Cleveland Indians hosted the San Diego Padres for a spring training matchup in Goodyear, Ariz.

As it turns out, that may not have been the only contact between the two teams.

According to Ken Rosenthal of MLB on FOX and The Athletic, the Padres remain interested in acquiring one of the Indians' starting pitchers, particularly Corey Kluber or Trevor Bauer. San Diego -- among other teams -- had been linked to Kluber and Bauer earlier this offseason, before trade talks seemingly died down following the team's arrival in Goodyear.

Nevertheless, it appears the Padres remain interested, with Cleveland having reportedly lowered its asking price for one of its top two pitchers. In December, Jon Morosi of the MLB Network reported San Diego was a "strong contender" to land Kluber, with the Indians interested in the Padres' ability to provide Major League in a potential deal.

San Diego outfielders Manuel Margot and Hunter Renfroe and catcher Austin Hedges had each been mentioned in potential trades with the Indians this past offseason.

But while those same talks may have resumed, a deal remains far from imminent. Per Rosenthal, Cleveland's asking price remains beyond the Padres' comfort level, with a deal between the two teams unlikely to occur between now and Opening Day next week.

Plenty, of course, can change between now and then and even this late, the Indians' roster remains a work in progress. With Cleveland reportedly close to signing 3-time All-Star Carlos Gonzalez, it's clear the Indians are still looking for outfield help -- and may still be willing to deal from their surplus of starting pitching to do so.

About Carrasco's leukemia:

Survival Rates for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Drugs that are highly effective in treating most cases of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) first became available in 2001. There's no accurate information yet on how long patients treated with these drugs may live.

All that's known is that most patients who have been treated with these drugs, starting in 2001 (or even before), are still alive.

One large study of CML patients treated with imatinib (Gleevec®) found that about 90% of them were still alive 5 years after starting treatment. Most of these patients had normal white blood cells and chromosome studies after 5 years on the drug.

If he can return to baseball that will be a bonus but Cookie's good health is really all that's important

Oncologist friend advises that there is no reason why Carrasco cannot compete while taking his medications for the chronic condition.

Yes, that's what it seems that short article is saying.

They wouldn't be keeping him throwing if they didn't think he'd be back - in the bullpen at the very least.

Besides, hate to say it, but someone of his stature with the team resources behind him will get the highest care possible and the most expensive meds.

TFIR:

Just got a notification on my phone. Jon Morosi reporting Phillies talking to Tribe about Bauer.

Time to look at Phillies prospects too.

I don’t have time cause I’m on the road so I’m counting on you. Give us some names.

This got covered in another folder, the Phils prospects are not top notch and the system is not deep.

I would think the Yankees, Dodgers, Padres and Braves - all with very deep prospect pools - would be the best targets if they still go through with dealing Bauer.

Which I think is less and less likely with the team threatening the Twins.

Yeah, saw the posts there so I replied there as well. Phils are not deep at all, but enough there to make me happy.

His hot hitting began before the all star game, but Jose's post All Star splits are pretty darned good:

58-11-21-13 3 doubles; 4 home runs; 2 walks, 3 strikeouts; 4 steals in 5 tries; 362/377/707

Did you guys hear the anecdote Andre Knott told the other day about Jose?

IF you did - move on to the next post.

If not he said that Lindor told him the team would hit great from now on because they would be carried by one guy - Jose Ramirez.

Then, Andre told him Lindor said they would be carried by one guy and Jose asked him...who?

Knott told him Lindor said. Jose Ramirez.

Ramirez looked at Andre and said, "Smart guy".

The booth broke up and Matt Underwood said that anecdote perfectly tells you exactly what Jose is like.
