Well, the Tribe didn't sign Cody Allen, but the Twins (Derek Falvey) did. No surprise.

Carrasco? Doesn't sound like we're supposed to count on him.

It's hard to count on someone you don't even know what he has.

I'm optimistically hoping that if something is called a "blood disorder" then some sort of med fix is in the works.

In '16, when WS Game 7 was in Cleveland, 10 of 1st 21 picks in draft were Pitchers. Those P's have 1 MLB win. Tribe took Civale in 3d round, Bieber in 4, Plesac in 11, and they have 9 wins, a 3.32 ERA, 148-29 K/BB ratio, 9 wins

I posted this is Gametime but will likely get lost in the game banter today so thought I'd move it here.

Very interesting interview with Plesac before the game started. He had a little hiccup in his delivery and during a bullpen session before his last start Trevor Bauer noticed it. (The pitchers watch each others bullpen sessions and offer tips)

The tip by Bauer really helped him, he was great his last start in Texas.

That is awesome from Bauer, but I have to ask, what is Carl Willis doing?

Pleasc's uncle Dan said on MLB Network when I was watching that Zach already has the best pickoff move in the majors due to fantastic footwork.

HB - remember that every starter does their bullpens in front of every other starter - an unusual setup in MLB. I've read other comments by them about how beneficial that is. As for Bauer, it goes without saying that he's one of the smartest and most analytical pitchers in the big leagues and could instantly be a top pitching coach for anyone.

In Willis' defense he works with pitchers all the time and if he makes a suggestion that works, we wouldn't necessarily hear about that.

Kudos to Bauer.

Pitching in relief of the injured Mike Soroka (forearm) on Sunday, Josh Tomlin turned in four scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a 10-inning win over the Nationals.

Soroka took a pitch to the forearm while batting in the third inning and the Nationals opted to throw in the towel on his outing at that point. Enter Tomlin, who went on to pitch a sterling four innings of work. The right-handed reliever allowed just one hit and did not walk a batter during his time on the mound. He threw 43 pitches on the afternoon, 27 of which went for strikes.

Overall this season, Tomlin owns a 3.77 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 29/4 K/BB ratio in 43 innings

Oh yeah, we saw a Tomlin comeback all the way.

It is nice to have a smidgen of optimism with the recent turn of events. We are now 8 games back of Minnesota, not totally insurmountable. Rookie pitchers may not be able to keep their winning streak once the book gets around on them, then again, maybe they will. Top three hitters are respectable, for some reason, Kip is showing signs of the old Kip. Perez (Sorry hillbilly) is a pleasant surprise. Naquin has been steady. Who knows? I do not expect to see Kluber or Carassco again this year, but that leaves us with Bauer, Beiber and Clevinger and mix and match rookies.
All of us here are crazy optimists. Who really knows?

Regarding Kluber - I noticed after the game he was out there doing high 5s. I figured he would be favoring his right arm but no - every high 5 was right handed and there was no holding back.

Perhaps a small thing but to me it says a lot. I definitely expect him back if his right arm is already that active. Throwing, then bullpens then.....August.

Hope his high 5's were gentle. I'd prefer him to wave politely.

The minor leagues have saved this season from doing to the dogs quickly. Interesting that none among Mercado, Plesac and Civale were ranked among our top dozen prospects. Bradley was. Development staff and these guys themselves deserve plaudits.
