Gonzalez has not yet been called up but is expected to be on the roster Sunday, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

They have picked Luplow as the AAA replacement. Today they bring up both Cody Anderson for relief help as well as Rodriguez to start. One of the pitchers will return to Columbus tomorrow. Jon Edwards also down to Columbus.

Current AL batting logs show Jose Ramirez at .135 tied for 97th in the league in hitting, out of 99.
He's not drawing walks which he was pretty good at during his end of 2018 tailoff, 2 BB in 14 games
That puts him again 97th in on base pct, great for your No. 2 hitter
His power totals 3 doubles, shoving about Boston's Jackie Bradley, into 96th.
And his OPS of 366 ranks second last to Bradley.
This is a serious problem. With our diminished lineup perhaps Jose has put too much burden on himself; or should I say the team has put too much burden on him, it helps to have others to rely on, he is pretty much alone out there with Santana and to lesser degree Martin and the other Remirez. CarGo will help share the load
It would be nice if they had some infielder who could play major league level baseball who could sub for him for a day or two at third, but Moroff and Stamets do not belong on a big league club at all.

Yeah, I agree somewhat there civ.
I do think veterans like CarGo, Kipnis and of course Lindor will help take the pressure off him. Teams are targeting him as THE guy to get out. And with scrubs like Bauers behind him...it's a smart strategy.
It's not like Jose is an experienced professional hitter on the level of a Votto/Goldschmidt. He is still young and learning.
And I still think the shift is in his head too. He needs to simply go to all fields until he gets the feel - we know he can do that because he used to. Get on base, steal bases etc

Do we blame the hitting coach at all for the inability of most of the lineup to hit? Can't make something of nothing, of course. But there is some inherent talent there in Bauers and uh and Allen and well that's about it.

not quite qualifying for the list either because he's a few at bats shy of the minimum or he's just so bad that they're embarrassed to include his name, Stamets rates a dead last in pretty much every offensive category.
Potential replacement Mike Freeman has an interesting stats line: 150/414/450 OPS 864. 2 of his 3 hits are home runs and he's walked 9 times in 29 plate appearances. His major league career mark looks amazingly like our current corps of infielders: 134/211/207 OPS 418.
We really have cornered the market on incompetence.

CarGo on the roster, Clevinger to the 60day DL; Rodriguez optioned back to Columbus. There's another starting role in about a week. There's also a minimum stay in the minors before recall allowed. So it could be Rodriguez, it could be Cody who is staying in the majors

civ - I think April 14 is definitely too early to get on the hitting coach.
To be continued.

Yes, it is. The only player clearly playing below ability is Ramirez. I would hope that someone could do something to get Bauers going. He was highly rated throughout his minor league career.

Obviously he could be pressing. Hoping he gets a few to drop and the momentum carries him out of his early nerves.

Little trivia:
Francisco Mejia went 0-for-3 at the plate and allowed five steals in five attempts Tuesday versus the Rockies.
Mejia will probably start to hit if given the chance, but the Padres might yet decide that it makes more sense to send him down to catch regularly than it does to keep him as a backup to Austin Hedges. He's started seven of the Padres' 19 games to date and gone 4-for-28 with one RBI.
