Maybin was at his best what Allen already is. I guess some of the non-roster invitee OFs have moved on? Clippers roster shows Barnes, Thompson, Mercado, Papi and Marabell.

Link to Maybin's career: https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... ca01.shtml

His best year to date was 2016. civ - if Greg Allen ever replicates that season I'll be jumping for joy.

That said, he is only 31, right handed, and has always covered ground in CF. Stole 33 bases one year. Worth a look at least.

It actually seems to fit a pattern - outfielders with defense and speed are being scrutinized. Carlos Gonzalez excepted.

Funny writeup:

This is not a misprint; Maybin is really only turning 32 this season. He has seemingly been in the major leagues forever as he made his big-league debut in 2007 and has played for six organizations, including two separate stints in Miami. He stole 33 bases as recently as two seasons ago and is still a threat to run, but his offensive profile is otherwise unattractive recently

2016 is quite a nice looking stat line but it stands out as pretty aberrant compared to all those other seasons. Maybin was a really big deal prospect who was supposed to be a major star.

What puzzles me about the way they're dealing with the OF is that they are indeed collecting good fielding fast guys who hit line drives; but they're actually staffing the major league OF with Bauers and Luplow and not sure which side of the line Naquin falls on.

Play Allen and Martin and Mercado and put Bauers back at 1st and or DH, if they're serious about stressing speed and defense. And we have some reason that those guys might hit for average and produce reasonable but not outstanding OPS. Maybe

Naquin does steal bases so I think they like his speed and they (vaguely) remember he can hit for pop too.

I'm with you on Allen, this guy HAS to get in there.

I do think they have to give CarGo the benefit of the doubt in RF at some point to see what he's got. You do have to have SOME pop. But speed and defense guys in CF and LF make sense - although Bauers is quite athletic so he kind of qualifies.

Yandy hitting a homer yesterday makes me nervous........

I do think I am swinging over to the side of pessimism when it comes to what the front office plan is. The rosters of NY, Boston and Houston are so incredibly loaded. I do have to wonder if they have stepped back figuring it's a good time to do so when they realistically are at best 4th best team in the AL.

And next offseason, even sooner, Bauer and Lindor go?

if the goal is to make the postseason and then hope for the best, their plan so far is still working:
1. Locate in the weakest division of the league and at least edge into the playoffs as a division champ.
2. Have a great rotation so capable of winning any game.
3. Acquire some good hitter[s] at the last possible trade deadline to add some offense,
4. Get lucky and win 3 series. [well this part hasn't happened yet[

I think you nailed that pretty well. I'm willing to play along because I can see the logic of it actually. Especially with the landscape of the Super 3 teams in the American League.

I did forget another part of their plan going forward: keep a steady supply of young players moving through the system

After two games we have 4 players with OPS exceeding .000.

And as you know in the lower part of the system that plan is going well.

It will take a few years for those guys to arrive which probably will mean that some will be ready when Jose and Francisco are ready to depart. But the outfield supply is not great, therefore the trades for Mercado and Johnson. Also Nolan Jones who's been a 3B is often suggested as possibly being an OF eventually

Last couple years Indians have been among the top the league in walks while being among the bottom of strikeouts. Not looking to repeat those rankings. 39 strikeouts in 3 games. The new guys: Luplow, Moroff, Miller are a combined 12 strikeouts in 20 at bats and 1 walk. Hard to believe we actually traded for Luplow and Moroff. Other new acquistiions Hanley, Plaweciki and fillin Stamets total 11 K in 17 AB at least they have all walked at least once, 4 in total. The one K-light addition is Bauers who's fanned once in 9 at bats.
No mention made here of the unmentionable RF.

Remember Michael Brantley whose K/BB would be right around 1/1?

no one's inspired to say anything about this exciting team today?

Anyone seen an update on Lindor. We can hardly wait.
Kipnis I assume will take month. Miller looks pretty bad in his place
Zimmer I read has a setback, surprise surprise
Salazar should be ready in time for the free agent market next fall

Lindor was examined by a specialist in Green Bay the other day. Results came back and team announced today he will miss 3 weeks.

Salazar is throwing long toss. They expect him to miss first 2 months of season.

Perhaps on May Day we can celebrate the end of the Stamets Era?

I'm not holding my breath on Sslazar.
Any dates noted for Kipnis or Zimmer?

We can only hope that Frankie seeing how injuries happen - decides to join the trend and sign an extension.
