No Giambi again today. No surprise....We know he doesn't play in away games. "B-games" Giambi loves the back fields. No fans there to watch a washed up player trying to scmooze his way on the team.

No to Jason Giambi no matter how much Tito loves him; no matter what kind clubhouse presence he is.

The guy's on his best behavior right now. The Indians are the only team in baseball that will have him. Perhaps Giambi should try Taiwan. Nice right/lefty DH combination with Manny. They make nice bed partners.

I was pleasantly surprised with Manny's winter numbers. I thought he would have gotten an invitation to a spring camp on the cheap.......somewhere.

I'd like to see an "athlete" with versatility to take that spot targetted for Giambi. The only thing Giambi can do these days is swing a bat with holes in it. He can't field. I really don't want another clubhouse leader. I want someone that can produce on offense and/or defense.

If not Giambi, then they could keep McGuinness, but that's not likely. Or they could keep Carrera who has stolen more bases this spring than Stubbs, Kipnis, Bourne, Brantley combined.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Michael Brantley homered and Carlos Carrasco continued his push for the No. 5 spot in the rotation as the Indians beat the D-backs, 5-4, on Thursday in front of a sellout crowd at Salt River Fields.

Carrasco, who is battling Scott Kazmir for the final rotation spot, allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings of work.

"I think he continues to show good stuff," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "The one inning when they got the runs, we lost a ball in the sun, things like that, and then they hit the ball hard. I think he's making progress. His arm is good. He looks healthy. I think it's exciting. That's the best way to put it."

Brantley got the Indians on the board in the first with his first home run of the spring. The three-run shot came after Lonnie Chisenhall and Nick Swisher each collected two-out singles.

"Nice swing," Francona said. "That's the way you swing at a 3-0 pitch. That was good. We had a good day. We got a bunch of at-bats early."

The D-backs cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the first on Aaron Hill's two-out RBI double.

Arizona starter Ian Kennedy, though, did not appear sharp, allowing back-to-back doubles to start the second as Cleveland went up 4-1.

The D-backs took advantage of a misplay by Brantley in left to tie the game with three runs in the third. Martin Prado drove home two of them with a double, and Eric Chavez added an RBI single.

Omir Santos gave the lead right back to the Indians with an RBI single in the fourth.

Kennedy, who will start Opening Day for the D-backs, allowed five runs on nine hits while fanning seven over five innings.

Up next: Opening Day starter Justin Masterson is scheduled to log seven innings on Friday, when the Indians host the D-backs in a 10:05 p.m. ET Cactus League contest at Goodyear Ballpark. The game will be televised on SportsTimeOhio, and a live webcast will be available on indians.com. Infielder Mike Aviles and catcher Carlos Santana -- back from stints with Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, respectively, in the World Baseball Classic -- are slated to return to Cleveland's lineup. Tribe relievers Matt Albers and Rich Hill are also down to pitch.

Heckuva spring for Chis. If he is ready to hit remotely this well during the season, we have solid bats 1-8. And Stubbs at least can steal 30 and hit 14 homers even if his OPS is 610 again.

Saw a game with DENVER LOU in Lakeland last night. He is doing well. Verlander gave up a couple homers, and 4 ER. His last outing wasn't very good either. But, as we all know, ST games mean nothing. TFIR doesn't have to worry about him doing well for his fantasy team.

I miss Lou, JR. Is he ever going to post again?
