Chisenhall, Reynolds, Swisher lead offensive outburst
By Carrie Muskat / MLB.com | 3/4/2013 5:54 P.M. ET
MESA, Ariz. -- Lonnie Chisenhall hit a solo home run, RBI double and RBI single, Mark Reynolds added a solo homer and RBI double, and Nick Swisher drove in four runs to power the Indians to a 13-5 victory on Monday over the Cubs.
It was a wild start for Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco, who is in the mix for the fifth spot in Cleveland's rotation. He struck out Luis Valbuena to open the Cubs' first, then was hit on the side of his head by Darnell McDonald's line drive. Carrasco fell to his knees on the mound, and was tended to by the Indians athletic trainer, but he stayed in the game.
Carrasco may have regretted that in the second, as he dove in an attempt to catch Junior Lake's popup. Carrasco stayed following that play as well, and gave up two runs on four hits over three innings.
Chisenhall and Reynolds each hit solo home runs for the Indians off of Cubs pitcher Alberto Cabrera. Alfonso Soriano connected on his first spring homer leading off the Cubs' second, and Steve Clevenger then walked. One out later, Brad Nelson hit a RBI double to tie the game.
The Indians opened a 5-2 lead in the third on a RBI double by Chisenhall, a RBI single by Swisher, and an RBI double by Reynolds.
This was Cabrera's first Cactus League start and he gave up five runs on seven hits over 2 2/3 innings. The right-hander, who is projected to open at Triple-A Iowa, could be an option during the season if the Cubs need another starter. Cubs manager Dale Sveum has also mentioned Drew Carpenter, Brooks Raley, and Chris Rusin as options.
Drew Stubbs hit a RBI double in the fourth, driving in Omir Santos, who reached on a throwing error by third baseman Lake. Chisenhall and Swisher each hit RBI singles in the fourth as well. Stubbs also connected for a two-run triple in the fifth.
Swisher bashed a two-run homer in the sixth off Minor Leaguer Ty'Relle Harris, his first of the spring.
Up next for the Indians: Rotation hopeful Daisuke Matsuzaka is scheduled to take the mound for a three-inning outing, when the Indians take on the Giants at 3:05 p.m. ET on Tuesday in Scottsdale. Lefty David Huff, who is a candidate for either the rotation or bullpen, is also slated to throw three innings. Sidearmer Joe Smith, who has been working his way back from a minor left abdominal issue, is expected to make his Cactus League debut. A live webcast of the game will be available on Indians.com.

I know it's way too late, LOU, but I just saw this. There was a place to "listen live" and I clicked on that. It opened the MLB player, and I was in business.

Scott Kazmir - S - Indians
Scott Kazmir went three scoreless innings Wednesday afternoon in a minor league game.
Kazmir yielded three hits and a walk but he struck out five. 36 of his 54 pitches were strikes. The Indians have been impressed with the 29-year-old left-hander so far this spring, but he still has a long way to go.

Kazmir is a client of the Texas Baseball Ranch run by Ron Wolforth. Wolforth is Bauer's guru. Maybe he picked up some velocity with Wolforth's training methods.

Indians 6, Giants 4
March 7, 2013
The Associated Press
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) - Ubaldo Jimenez is getting good results by quickening his delivery.
Nick Swisher and Jason Giambi hit consecutive homers off Heath Hembree, and Jimenez had a solid start on Thursday, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 6-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Hembree allowed Swisher's third home run of the spring, a three-run shot in the fifth. Giambi hit his first. Ryan Raburn, who leads the Indians with four homers, hit a pair of doubles, one of them with the bases loaded.
Jimenez allowed three hits and one run in four innings, benefiting from his quicker delivery. Center fielder Michael Bourn lost Brandon Crawford's fly ball in the sun, letting it fall for a triple. Hunter Pence followed with an RBI single.
"This is going to be a big season for me. The last two have been hard," Jimenez said. "I'm not worried about being a free agent. I want to show this team what I can do and I haven't done that yet."
The Indians' new pitching coach, Mickey Callaway, has been working with Jimenez on the pace of his delivery.
"It is helping," Jimenez said. "I was pausing, then I had to start up again. I have been able to attack the strike zone with my fastball."
Giants starter Tim Lincecum had to be scratched again because of a blister that he developed after his first appearance of spring training. He also missed a start last Saturday because of the blister on the middle finger of his right hand.
Chad Gaudin, who is trying to earn a job in the bullpen, pitched three scoreless innings in Lincecum's place.
"He's got the experience," manager Bruce Bochy said. "He has the pitches to work with. He had short notice but he's been there before. It worked out well. Our preference would be a guy who can go multiple innings. We haven't had that and gotten away with it."
Hembree, a Pacific Coast League All-Star last season, had trouble controlling his pitches in the fifth inning.
"He got some pitches up but they were two pretty good hitters," Bochy said.
Raburn, a minor league free agent who is trying to win a spot on the Indians' bench, had a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.
"He feels good about himself," manager Terry Francona said. "He's got a nice short stroke. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but it's the kind of swing that plays well off the bench."
NOTES: Indians OF Michael Brantley will have his stitches removed from his left forearm on Friday. He hurt it while sliding into third base. He will resume baseball activities and should be ready to play by Sunday, according to Francona. ... Matt Carson, who was hit in the head with a pitch on Wednesday, has been cleared to resume full activity for Cleveland. ... Indians closer Chris Perez, who has not pitched since Feb. 26 because of a right shoulder strain, will begin throwing as early as Sunday. ... Pence singled twice. ... Brandon Belt, who leads the Giants with three home runs, hit a two-run double. ... Giants INF Brett Pill has swelling in his knee. "He doesn't know how he did it," Bochy said. "He's close to returning but he won't play tomorrow." ... Giants OF Andres Torres has an injured oblique muscle. "He is swinging from the right side," Bochy said. "He should start taking some swings from the left side Monday or Tuesday."

Game called before the end of the 3rd inning today. Rain in Arizona? Or maybe a dust storm?
Stubbs with our only 2 hits, his first homer and his 2nd double. Other guys scored 3 runs and Kluber was scheduled to start so I guess Kluber gave up the runs. He is way at the back of the lost of contenders for the 4th and 5th spots.

Indians 9, Cubs 2
March 9, 2013
MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Jason Kipnis hit his first home run of the spring and Cedric Hunter also connected, leading the Cleveland Indians over the Chicago Cubs 9-2 Saturday.
Kipnis came into the game hitting .227 with two RBIs. He led off the fourth with a home run against reliever Brooks Raley.
Hunter had three hits, including a three-run shot.
Indians starter David Huff went three innings in a bid to find a roster spot as the fifth starter or in the bullpen. The left-hander allowed four hits and two earned runs, striking out three.
Javier Baez, a 20-year-old Cubs shortstop, homered after David DeJesus doubled to open the game.
Cubs starter Chris Rusin was bumped back after Friday's rainout, but didn't show any ill effects as he threw three shutout innings.
