Cleveland Indians

The Indians are taking a fairly cautious approach with 2018 35th overall pick Ethan Hankins -- probably a good strategy after the 6-foot-6 right-hander missed time last spring with a shoulder injury -- and he is appropriately dominating for Class A Short Season Mahoning Valley. Cleveland's No. 8 prospect turned in scoreless efforts in three of his five appearances last month and finished with a 1.17 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 20 strikeouts and eight walks over 23 innings in July. Hankins throws in the high-90s at times with a good changeup, and those can confound lower-level hitters. Even better: he's thrown a career-high five innings in each of his last two outings and could see longer starts as he works deeper into August. Once a question mark in the Draft, Hankins is answering a lot of issues about his health and durability the deeper he goes into his first full season and should be a big piece of the future on Cleveland's farm. -- SD

Adam Scott is having a very good season a solid LH who moved up to Akron year after he was drafted in the 4th round. Why isn't he on our Top 30 lists?

Aaron Civale is going to get recalled Monday and make start against Texas in Salazar’s place.

Civ, reports from last nights game had Hankins regularly in mid 90’s and topping out at 98. ... The other young lefty, Matt Turner, pitched 5 shutout innings last night, and has only allowed 3 earned runs his last 3 starts. ... Future looks bright.

Noel has had at least 1 rbi in 8 straight games.

Santiago got hurt in 1st inning yesterday so his hit streak ended at 20. Bad way to end it.

One of our international signings, 17 year old Luis Ostos, broke his ankle preseason so he just made his pro debut last night. Went 2-3 with a walk.

Just a reminder, we signed Jose Ramirez’s little brother to a contract last August when he turned 16. He’s in his first year of pro ball now in Dominican. Jose Baez is his name. He’s currently hitting .252 with no homers and 3 steals in 119 at bats. But he has walked 21 times and has a .375 OBP.

Indians Prospective @indiansPro
#Indians 18yr old RHP prospect Daniel Espino is just to overpowering for AZL hitters. Espino's upper 90's fastball & wipeout slider just isn't fair. Case in point Daniel's start tonight vs the AZL Cubs.
Tonight - 3.0(IP) 0H 0R 0ER 1BB 5SO
Season - 10.0(IP) 3H 1R 1ER 4BB 14SO

MLB has a new page for box scores. On one page you get the Indians and all affiliates box scores for the day. They also highlight each player that is in the top 30.
