Four years later at the 1992 Republican National Convention, Ronald Reagan answered claims by Bill Clinton's campaign, while poking fun at his own age, by saying, "This fellow they've nominated claims he's the new Thomas Jefferson. Well, let me tell you something. I knew Thomas Jefferson. He was a friend of mine. And governor, you're no Thomas Jefferson."

References to and parodies of the famous quotation have often appeared in popular culture. On an episode of Saturday Night Live, several candidates for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States were debating each other at a time when President George H. W. Bush was enjoying enormous popularity in the polls. All of the candidates tried to make the other ones look good since no one wanted to face Bush in the election. At one point, Bentsen, played by host Kiefer Sutherland, remarked, "I served with Jack Kennedy, I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. I am no Jack Kennedy."

In 2008, Ronald Reagan's daughter Patti Davis paraphrased the quotation in reference to a number of Presidential candidates invoking her father's name during the 2008 United States Presidential campaign, "Where is Lloyd Bentsen when you need him? 'I knew Ronald Reagan... senator (or governor), you're no Ronald Reagan.'"

If Reagan, Clinton, Jefferson, Bush, or Sutherland could hit, I'd sign them if I was Shapironetti, in their world.

I doubt Shapiro or Antonett know who any of those guys are, so it's a moot point.

(or perhaps a "mute point" if watching most TV or political coverages on TV these days)

So Rusty thinks I am an SOB who has picked on TFIR and put my wife through a painful event.

Another example of one of the greatest dangers of the Internet, inability to evaluate a personality through posted words.

But one can determine if someone is slightly off his rocker and weak in their evaluation of baseball facts.

Rusty, my wife wanted to answer but I stopped her. I did not want you to be exposed to the wrath of her vengance. :D

Wait, this forum has meetings?

Man, I hate meetings. None of us are as dumb as all of us. No wonder we can't all just hit a bong around here. We have meetings!

Santana, 3 BB -- no surprise
Kipnis, 3 BB -- good job, buddy
Marson, 3 BB -- What? Again? They don't want to pitch to him for some reason?

How did Hafner happen to be playing? The only starter who managed to avoid getting on base. He left how many on? I will not be sorry when he departs at last. Would have been different if he had the ability to stay moderately healthy; or if the Powers that Be knew better than to sign a DH to a longterm contract that most of the Industry thought extreme.

I, too, look forward to not seeing Hafner.

Also Lilibridge. I do not understand this guy being in major league baseball. Why, oh why did we pick him up?

Because we seem to collect Utility guys like some collect Madam Alexander dolls.

If we wanted a real backup to Asdrubal and a fan favorite who is a utility player and more.....pick up Omar. He is worth all those other guys bundled together and is capable of bunting when we need one. Be nice for him to finish here anyway.

Ah, but remember the brilliant rationale: Lillilibridge can play OF and IF, so it only took 1 valuable roster spot to replace both the highly skilled Aaron Cunningham and the talented Jason Donald.

Looks like Manny Acta has rallied the troops. Manny has staved off any attempts at a mutiny and put an end to any thoughts of a team ready to walk the plank.

Give the man a five year extention on his contract. Seriously!

We've had player managers before, maybe Manny can hire Chris Perez as a player/bullpen coach!?!?!? I think that Manny Acta and Chris Perez would be a perfect fit and sure to pull this team together.

Losers today! Champions tomorrow!

Omar has already announced his retirement at the end of this year. He is only batting .235.
When we promote Sandy to manager, Omar can be his bench coach.

The meetings were suspended when the team left Winter Haven for Goodyear.
