Hell, I've voted for several democrats. I still would if there were some old fashioned dems around, instead of the modern progressive commies. Unfortunately they are few and far between.

Barack Obama's admission that his policies would "spread the wealth around" has ignited a nationwide discussion of how progressive the tax system should be and how it should be used to redistribute income among Americans. Obama has been very successful in bolstering the conventional wisdom that the U.S. tax system does not place a significant enough burden on wealthier households and places too much of a burden on the "middle class."

But a new study on inequality by researchers at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris reveals that when it comes to household taxes (income taxes and employee social security contributions) the U.S. "has the most progressive tax system and collects the largest share of taxes from the richest 10% of the population." As Column 1 in the table below shows, the U.S. tax system is far more progressive—meaning pro-poor—than similar systems in countries most Americans identify with high taxes, such as France and Sweden.

Even after accounting for the fact that the top 10 percent of households in the U.S. have one of the highest shares of market income among OECD nations, our tax system is second only to Ireland in terms of its progressivity for households.

The table also shows that the U.S. collects more household tax revenue from the top 10 percent of households than any other country and extracts the most from that income group relative to their share of the nation's income.

In 1987 when Reagan was overseeing a recovery the top 1% of earners in this country paid 24% of the total taxes.

In 2007 before the commie took over, the top 1% of earners paid 40% of the taxes.

At the same time, the tax burden of the top 1% of exceeded the burden of the bottom 95% combined.

The rhetoric and demagoguery coming out of the debt ceiling debate, and pretty much every debate coming out of Washington these days, is just ridiculous. They are killing business in this country.

Did you hear Steve Wynn's comments from yesterday? He voted for Obama and his wife is a huge supporter. The top 3 politicians he gave money to last election were all democrats. So when he comes out blasting Obama's policies it carries more weight than some.

And that is true of Democratic businessmen, and Republican businessmen, and I am a Democratic businessman, and a repu — I support Harry Reid, I support Democrats and Republicans, and I am telling you that the business community in this country is frightened to death of the weird political philosophy of the President of the United States. Just taking advantage of an easy opportunity to vent when it seemingly makes not a difference.



My youngest kid is off to Auburn on Monday. This will be Year 12 of my life years of at least partially funding and having kids in college.

Three are through, and this one has three more years to go.

I worked for $1.65 an hour at a new concept fast food restaurant called Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers back in 1974. Worked my arse off unloading trucks and filling the coolers with 50 pound boxes in between greeting customers with a smile and flipping burgers. I installed the grill in the new restaurant where I first worked.



Democrats had controlled Congress for most of the past 37 years.


We might have had unions trying to help us, but at $1.65 an hour I guess Jimmy Hoffa and his buds decided there was not a profitable enough opportunity take out to skim.

Democrats suck. As does Barack Obama.

Well, I like Rand Paul too, and have to admit to a huge man crush on Allen West. The can stay too. But term limits for everyone else!!

"Politician" is a filthy word in my vocabulary. Problem is, you throw them all out then what do you get in their place? More politicians, and sometimes much worse ones.

Montana had pretty strict term limits when I lived there. Their legislature was flat out an embarrassment, and they made numerous horrible decisions that really screwed over the state.

I have no idea what the answer is.

But I'm more strongly in favor of a flat tax than ever. Or at least something much flatter than what we now have, and with no exemptions. The rate needs to be determined by the amount spent the previous year, plus some amount that will pay off the national debt over some period of time.Then, whatever this year's budget is, that sets the revenue required for the following year, plus enough to make a payment to bring down the debt.

This is the only kind of plan that will restore any degree confidence in how we do the business of government.

Then people can truly vote as their pocketbook dictates. They want more spending they elect those guys then pay for it the following year. They want to pay less then vote for the guys who run lean. As it now stands everything is too abstract for anyone to understand, there needs to be direct linkage, the way there is in business.

It needs to be set in place ASAP.

It's also part of the problem that we have a system that severely gerrymanders our Districts to water down the effectiveness of our vote needing representatives who desire to get re-elected at least one more time.

I'm a flat tax fan.


And yes Rusty, some Republicans are part of the problem, too.


Give me some tire iron wielding folks in office who really care about our country's future and those Republicans are way more likely to get in line and do the right thing than they would be with these namby pamby secret Socialist agenda patsy guys the Democrats rig to elect.

I'm curious to know if the crime and murder level in Barack Obama's "home state" elected state district has lessened while he has had the top powers in the country? I doubt it.

He can't even run (or positively affect) his "home" lives well....I'll be damned if he'll run mine (another four years).
