Cleveland Guardians Spring Training Prospect Report: 3/16/26

Bazzana impresses with glove; Pallette continues to shine

Arthur Kinney

Mar 17

SCOREBOARD

Chicago Cubs 5, Cleveland Guardians 2 (Statcast)

STARTERS

Petey Halpin (LF): 0-3, 2 K, 1 Outfield Assist - While Halpin was, like most of the Guardians last night, impressive at the plate, he did make a spectacular catch that started an inning-ending double play that got the Guardians out of a rapidly-spiraling opening frame.

Juan Brito (2B): 0-3, 2 K - Not Brito’s greatest evening of camp, either at the plate or in the field.

Milan Tolentino (SS): 1-3, 1 2B - Tolentino’s first ever major league Spring double (a 410-foot, 102.5 blast that looks more like a homer on the Statcast leaderboard) was one of the few offensive highlights for the Guards on St. Patrick’s Eve.

NOTABLE RESERVES

Travis Bazzana (2B): 0-0, 1 BB - The story of Bazzana’s performance on the day he was told he would open the season at the Corner of Neil and Nationwide rather than Carnegie and Ontario was the pair of impressive defensive plays he made - one in each of the pair of innings he played

Juan Benjamin (3B): 1-1, 1 HR, 1 RBI - Benjamin provided some late-game excitement with his first big league exhibition extra-base hit - a solo shot to right field (94.9 MPH exit velo, no distance listed on Statcast).

RELIEVER

Peyton Pallette: 2 IP, 3 K - Palette has now thrown six shutout frames this Spring, recording over half of his outs (10 of 18) via strikeout. While last night’s outing was aided by a pair of spectacular defensive plays, it was nonetheless another impressive effort by the Rule 5 draftee. While his pitch mix remained fastball-centric (13 of 24), he also had great success with his 86 MPH slider, getting a strike all seven times he used it on Monday night.

RESERVES

Ryan Cesarini (LF): 0-1

Jake Fox (CF): 0-1

Anthony Martinez (1B): 0-1

Joe Lampe (RF): 0-1

Dauri Fernandez (SS): 0-1

Guardians score 5 in 8th to come-from-behind and beat Reds, 8-6

Published: Mar. 18, 2026, 12:22 a.m.

By Paul Hoynes, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians rallied for five runs in the eighth inning Tuesday night to beat the Reds, 8-6, at Goodyear Ballpark.

Minor League catcher Reiner Herrera’s two-run triple was the big hit of the inning, giving the Guardians an 6-5 lead against veteran reliever Brock Burke. Herrera played 43 games for Cleveland’s Arizona Complex League team last season.

Angel Martinez, with the Guardians trailing, 5-3, started the rally with a leadoff single. Petey Halpin walked and Nolan Jones singled to score Martinez to make it 5-4. Herrera’s triple past first base delivered Halpin and Jones for the lead.

CJ Kayfus and Milan Tolentino walked to load the bases. Jacob Cozart scored Herrera with a sacrifice fly. Juan Brito followed with a grounder to third as Kayfus, running on contact, scored just ahead of the throw home for an 8-5 lead.

Magnus Ellerts pitched the ninth for the save despite allowing a leadoff homer to Alfredo Alcantara.

The errors by third baseman Daniel Schneemann and shortstop Gabriel Arias put a damper on decent pitching performances by Kolby Allard and Shawn Armstrong.

Allard, making his first start of the spring, opened the game with four straight outs, the last three coming on strikeouts. Spencer Steer, with one out in the second, reached when Arias couldn’t handle his grounder to the hole at short. Noelvi Marte followed with a 425-foot homer to left for a 2-0 lead.

Rhys Hoskins, with his third homer of the season, put Cleveland back in the game with a two-out drive in the fourth to make it 2-1.

The Guardians added two more runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Travis Bazzana for a 3-2 lead off lefty Nick Lodolo.

The Reds came right back in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead on Elly De La Cruz’s bases-loaded, two-run single off Codi Heuer.Armstrong started the inning, but Schneemann’s error on a Will Banfield grounder extended it, allowing McClain to pop up to short before De La Cruz’s single.

Schneemann was playing his first game since Friday. He missed the last four games with a sprained right ankle.

The Guardians are 13-11-1 this spring. The Reds are 12-12.

Allard allowed two runs, one earned, in three innings. He struck out five, allowed one hit and didn’t walk a batter.

Trevor Stephan, Cade Smith and Erik Sabrowski combined for 2 2/3 scoreless innings. The win went to Smith.

The Guardians and Reds finished with seven hits each.

Next

The Guardians are off Wednesday, their third and final off day of the spring. The Guardians will resume the Cactus League season on Thursday against the Royals at Goodyear Ballpark at 4:10 p.m. The Guardians prospects, meanwhile, will play the Angels prospects at Tempe Diablo Stadium at 2 p.m. in MLB’s Spring Breakout series.

Guardians beat Angels in Spring Breakout game, 4-2, behind strong pitching

Updated: Mar. 19, 2026, 6:21 p.m.|Published: Mar. 19, 2026, 5:44 p.m.

By Paul Hoynes, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians’ prospects outpitched and outscored their Angels’ counterparts on Thursday at Tempe Diablo Stadium as part of MLB’s Spring Breakout format.

DH Wuilfredo Antunez hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning and Cleveland’s pitchers carried a shutout into the ninth in a 4-2 victory over the Angels.

MLB started the Spring Breakout three years ago to showcase the game’s younger players. The Guardians did just that Thursday.

Right-hander Yorman Gómez, a member of the 40-man roster, started for the Guardians and threw three scoreless innings. He struck out one and allowed four hits.

Left-hander Josh Hartle and right-hander Joey Oakie followed with two scoreless innings each. They each struck out three batters while walking one. Hartle was 10-2 with a 2.35 ERA in 22 starts last year at Class A Lake County. Oakie was Cleveland’s third round pick last year.

MLB.com ranked Oakie No. 10 and Hartle No. 27 among the Guardians’ top 30 prospects for the 2026 season.

Right-hander Braylon Doughty relieved Oakie and pitched a scoreless eighth despite allowing two singles to start the inning. In the ninth, he lost the shutout when Denzer Guzman hit a two-run homer. Magnus Ellerts relieved and earned the save by inducing a 6-4-3 double play off the bat of Anthony Santa Cruz de Oviedo.

MLB.com ranked Doughty No. 8 among the Guardians prospects.

The Guardians did all their scoring in the fourth inning.

Milan Tolentino opened the inning with a single off Trey Gregory-Alford. Angel Genao walked and both runners advanced on Alfonsi Rosario’s fly out to center. Jaison Chourio sent a grounder to first with Tolentino running on contact. First baseman Ben Gobbel made an offline throw home as Tolentino scored for a 1-0 lead.

Antunez, a non-roster invitee to big league camp this spring, hit a 1-0 pitch over the wall in right center for a 4-0 lead.

The Guardians’ defense matched their pitching. They turned four double plays. Catcher Cooper Ingle threw out one potential base stealer and picked off another to complete a double play.

They showed some good relay work in the third when Juan Flores tried to stretch a double into a triple. The ball got past Rosario in right field, but he quickly recovered and threw to first baseman Ralphy Velazquez, who threw to Tolentino at third, who tagged Flores.

The Angels outhit the Guardians, 10-7. Antunez and second baseman Dauri Fernandez led Cleveland with two hits each.

Guardians’ pitchers struck out 10 and walked four.

Takeaways From the Cleveland Guardians Spring Breakout Victory

Tommy Wild

Partner

The future of the Cleveland Guardians' rotation was on display in their victory over the Los Angeles Angels in the Spring Breakout Game.
The Cleveland Guardians showcased their future on Thursday in their 4-2 Spring Breakout victory over the Los Angeles Angels’ group of prospects.

Here are three takeaways from this exhibition match previewing the next wave of Cleveland’s top young talent.

Wuilfredo Antunez’s Two-Hit Day

The Guardians needed four runs to take down the Angels’ group of prospects, and Wuilfredo Antunez was responsible for three of them.

The 23-year-old’s first at-bat came in the third inning, and on the second pitch he saw, Antunez blasted a ball over the right field wall, with an exit velocity of 102.7 mph. The home runs scored by Angel Genao and Jaison Churio gave the Guardians a four-run lead.

In many ways, it shouldn’t be surprising that Antunez was part of the scoring for the Guardians. Last year, between High-A and Double-A, the outfielder logged a .856 OPS, including 18 home runs, in 382 at-bats.

In a game with many of the organization’s top prospects, such as Ralphy Velazauez, Kahlil Watson, Chourio, and Genao, Antunez could be considered underrated. He made sure to make his presence known and contribute to Cleveland’s win, though.

That's a Spring Breakout bomb for Wuilfredo Antúnez!

Josh Hartle, Joey Oakie, and Braylon Doughty Preview Future Guardians Rotation

Part of the fun of Cleveland’s pitching factory is watching them be acquired/drafted and ascend through the organization before joining the Major League team.

Right now, it’s Gavin Williams, Tanner Bibee, Logan Allen, and Joey Cantillo, and the future of the rotation was showcased in Cleveland’s 2026 Spring Breakout Game.

Josh Hartle (No. 27), Joey Oakie (No. 10), and Braylon Doughty (No. 8) each got into Monday’s contest and gave a preview of what Cleveland’s rotation could look like down the line. The trio combined to cover 5.1 innings, giving up just six hits, three walks, and two runs, but struck out nine batters.

Joey Oakie comes in and wastes no time notching a K!

Of this trio, Hartle is the closest to making the big leagues, but even he’s only at Double-A and reached that level toward the end of the 2025 season.

We’re potentially talking about Cleveland’s 2028-29 rotation, but there’s still a lot to look forward to with this group.

Milan Tolentino's Success Continues

The Spring Breakout game is full of players who won’t reach the Majors for years, if ever. However, there were a few players on Cleveland’s roster who could make an impact on the Guardians in 2026, one of those being Milan Tolentino

Tolentino was recently reassigned to Minor League camp, but Stephen Vogt said he’s “just one call away,” after a standout Spring Training. The infield prospect continued to show his sharp eye at the plate, notching a base hit and a walk in three at-bats.

Out of each of Cleveland’s prospects who competed in this game, Tolentino could be one of them who makes an unexpected impact as soon as this year.

Cleveland Guardians Spring Training Prospect Report: 3/19/26

Young arms shine bright in Spring Breakout game

Justin Lada

Mar 20

Spring Breakout Game
Guardians Prospects 4, Angels Prospects 3 (Statcast)

Spring Training Game
Cleveland Guardians 6, Kansas City Royals 5 - Statcast

Highlights

Joey Oakie (P, Prospects): 2IP, 2H, BB, 3 K - Oakie was electric in two innings of relief, hitting 97-99, getting whiffs with his slider and cutter, even dropping in a 91 MH change. The data was fantastic on him as far as extension and release height too. He’ll need to throw more strikes and work on that changeup, but no denying how exciting of an arm he is.

Image

Yorman Gomez (SP, Prospects): 3IP, 4H, K - Two of the hits Gomez allowed were of the bunt and bloop variety. He also got some hard contact outs too, so it all evened out. The data on him was a little more meager as far as traits, but he was 96-99 and showed off a deep arsenal and was impressive in his own right.

Image

Josh Hartle (P, Prospects): 2IP, H, BB, 3K - Doesn’t have Oakie’s velocity obviously, but some of the data and traits were just as exciting. He really threw a ton of sweepers (16 of 28 pitches). The extension numbers were strong on his pitches and the fastball velocity was in a solid range. Really solidly promisingly stuff from Hartle, who is an important figure now from that Pittsburgh Luis Ortiz deal.

Image

Braylon Doughty (P, Prospects): 1.1IP, 3H, 2ER, BB, 3K - Did have the home run allowed, but before that, things were looking good. Showed two strong spinning breaking balls and dialed it up to 95-96 in his first inning, dropping more to his usual 92-94 in his second inning of work, but still very solid. More velo here is good and I expect big things, maybe some growing pains this year, from Doughty.

Image

Wuilfredo Antunez (DH, Prospects): 2-3, HR, 3 RBI - Antunez had the big blow with a 102 MPH homer, but he also later had a single at 113 off the bat. Antunez does have some fun tools - there is power and a big throwing arm. The consistency isn’t there, neither is the approach or defense besides the arm. But if he can harness more of it, he’s an interesting platoon option in the future.

Starters

Dauri Fernandez (2B, Prospects): 2-3 - Didn’t hit the ball all that hard but the young 19 year old infielder was solid in the infield too showing off his defense and stronger arm than I thought. HE'S ON MY RADAR!

Cooper Ingle (C, Prospects): 0-1, 2BB - Ingle stood out defensively with some nice throws to second base and of course worked two walks.

Ralphy Velazquez (1B, Prospects): 0-3, K - Ralphy did come up empty on some hard heaters in the zone vs. the Angles hard throwing arms, but he also hit two balls over 100 MPH that could have earned a hit if not for a bad launch angle on it, but still nice to see if he can work on that more.

Angel Genao (SS, Prospects): 0-2, BB, K - No hits for Genao but impressive he worked a walk here and he showed us his speed down the line and good defense again with smooth actions and footwork and his strong arm.

Milan Tolentino (3B, Prospects): 1-2, BB, K - Had a solid single off Trey Gregory Alford and started a double play, showing his usual good defense.

Alfonsin Rosario (RF, Prospects): 0-3, K - It was a tough day for Rosario, unable to make solid contact and didn’t have a great day in the outfield either. Things have really taken a tough turn for him since his promotion to Akron late last year.

Jaison Chourio (LF, Prospects): 0-2, RBI, BB, K - Did hit into a 103 MPH fielders choice but otherwise looked overmatched at the plate in this one.

Parker Messick (SP): 5.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 0 BBs, 4 Ks - Three homeruns by the Royals led to four runs off of the left-hander Messick. 13 balls were put in play with hard contact and batters swung at 47 of his 87 pitches. He went to the fastball 40% of the time against right-handed hitters and was more balanced between the fastball, slider and even sinker to left-handers.

Chase DeLauter (RF): 1-2, R, BB - DeLauter’s single was one of the hardest-hit balls of the game at 109 mph off the stick and he reached base a second time in the game with a walk. It is his fourth straight game with a hit and most of his nine this spring have come on barreled baseballs.

Notable Reserves

Nolan Schubart (1B, Prospects): 1-2, K - Didn’t hit the ball hard in his one hit and had a rough strikeout in his other at bat.

Jace LaViolette (DH, Prospects): 0-1, K - Got one late appearance in this one and we’re not going to try to read into more than you can for one random game but did miss in the zone significantly.

Carter Kieboom (1B-3B): 1-1, RBI - Kieboom had the lone hit for the Guardian reserves, an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth that drove in the game-winning run. His clutch hit broke a 1-10 spell in spring training.

Bryce Arnold (PH-2B): 0-0, BB, R - Arnold was the man on after entering the game in the eighth as a pinch hitter and reaching base via the walk. This was the 24-year-old’s spring training debut with Cleveland.

Dayan Frias (2B-3B): 0-1, SB - Frias beat out a potential double play ball then used his speed to take second base himself but could not be brought around to score. The struggling Frias rolled over on a changeup below the zone to make contact.

Petey Halpin (RF): 0-1 - In an attempt to take a fastball the other way, Halpin lined out to left in his lone plate appearance.

Alex Mooney (SS): 0-1 - The middle infielder grounded out as the final batter of the day for the Guardians.

Dom Nunez (C): 0-0 - Nunez entered the game as a defensive replacement in the eighth and did not take an at-bat.

Izaak Martinez (RP): S (1), 1.0 IP, H, 0 R, BB, K - A groundout and strikeout got Martinez one out away from a save, but the pressure was on after a walk and a single put the game’s tying run at second base. He was ultimately able to nab the final out via a line drive to Halpin in right. Martinez did get three whiffs (one on each pitch - fastball, slider and changeup) in his 15 pitches, however (10 strikes).

Reid Johnston (RP): 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BBs, K - Johnston was tasked with wrapping up the sixth and did just that with a four-pitch strikeout. It featured two swings and misses on the slider away to get the punchout.

Other Reserves

Nick Mitchell (CF, Prospects): 0-0, BB

Jacob Cozart (C, Prospects): 0-1, BB, K

Dean Curley (3B, Prospects): 0-1, BB

Robert Arias (LF, Prospects): 0-1

Jose Devers (SS, Prospects): 0-2

Juneiker Caceres (RF, Prospects): 0-1, K

Gabriel Rodriguez (2B, Prospects): 1-1

Magnus Ellerts (RP, Prospects): 0.2IP, BB -

Guardians

Guardians surrender five home runs, 26 hits in 20-8 spring training loss to Mariners

Updated: Mar. 21, 2026, 12:40 a.m.|Published: Mar. 21, 2026, 12:20 a.m.

By Joe Noga, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — When the regular season opens next week in Seattle, the 20 runs that the Mariners hung on the Guardians in Friday’s Cactus League game at Goodyear Ballpark will be completely meaningless. But until then, the 20-8 beating is probably one that manager Stephen Vogt and his players would like to quickly forget.

Seattle’s offensive barrage included five home runs and a 10-run second inning that buried Logan Allen, who is competing for a spot in Cleveland’s Opening Day rotation. Allen surrendered 12 earned runs on 14 hits before his night was finished, including a grand slam to Walsh Jesuit product Dominic Canzone and a solo shot to rookie Cole Young.

Allen reached 85 pitches but had to re-enter the game twice to get there, leaving in the second inning for Tyler Thornton and again in the third and fourth innings when Jay Driver replaced him both times. Thornton and Driver were called up from minor league camp for the game.

Canzone led Seattle’s offense with four hits and five RBI, adding a run-scoring single in the third inning. Young collected three hits, including his second home run of the game, a two-run blast off Matt Festa in the sixth.

Julio Rodriguez added three hits with a two-run homer in the fourth, while Victor Robles matched Canzone with four hits, including a two-run shot. Brendan Donovan also collected three hits.

Cleveland’s offense showed some life despite the lopsided score. José Ramírez crushed a two-run homer in his first at-bat, his fourth spring home run and second consecutive game with a first at-bat homer. Angel Martínez drove a two-run laser over the right field wall in the second inning, raising his spring OPS to 1.211 with 10 extra-base hits, including three homers.

Bryan Rocchio, Chase DeLauter, Gabriel Arias, and CJ Kayfus added hits for Cleveland, with Kayfus posting his second spring double in the seventh. Wuilfredo Antunez, who homered Thursday for the Guardians prospects in their Spring Breakout game against the Angels, drilled a solo shot in the seventh.

The Guardians received some positive pitching performances despite the overall outcome. Erik Sabrowski, Codi Heuer, and Cam Schuelke each pitched scoreless relief innings. Heuer loaded the bases on a walk and two hits in the eighth before striking out three consecutive batters to escape the jam. Colin Holderman allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Cleveland closes out Cactus League play Saturday against the Giants in Scottsdale, with first pitch set for 3:05 p.m. Right-hander Tanner Bibee, who was named Cleveland’s Opening Day starter Friday, will take the mound for his final spring tune-up. Bibee enters the game with a 1-2 record and 4.42 ERA. San Francisco will counter with lefty Robbie Ray, who is 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA this spring.

Guardians' Logan Allen has a night to forget vs. Mariners

By David Hill | Last updated Mar 20, 2026 11:38 PM ET

Cleveland Guardians pitcher Logan Allen threw 85 pitches on Friday night. That was the only positive of his final spring training appearance.

The Mariners annihilated Allen as they prepare for the regular season. He allowed 12 runs on 14 hits and 2 walks over his 2.1 innings, striking out two batters. His 2.1 innings also come with an asterisk — he actually started each of the first four innings but was unable to complete any of them. Allen will end his time in Cactus League action having allowed 20 runs on 25 hits and eight walks in his 10 innings.

As bad as Allen's performance was, his -19 game score would have only been tied for the 30th-worst performance in major league history. Allen Travers, who infamously pitched for the Tigers in a game on May 18, 1912, when they fielded a team of replacement players, had an astounding -70 game score as he allowed 24 runs, 23 earned, on 26 hits and seven walks in eight innings. Allen's performance would have been the worst in the 21st century, however, surpassing Ben Lively's -16 game score on August 1, 2023.

Logan Allen still expected to be part of Cleveland Guardians rotation

Despite his rough performance in spring training, Allen is still expected to be a part of the Guardians rotation. He settled in as a solid back-of-the-rotation option for Cleveland in 2025, posting a 4.25 ERA and a 1.398 WHiP over his 156.2 innings, striking out 122 batters with 66 walks. Those may not be superstar numbers, but they are perfectly acceptable for a fifth starter.

However, Allen may not hold his place in the rotation for long if his spring training struggles continue into the regular season. Pitching prospect Khal Stephen is expected to make his major league debut this year and could take Allen's place. Kolby Allard is a non-roster invitee, but he filled a long relief role in Cleveland in 2025 and could presumably be stretched out as a starter.

Logan Allen ended spring training on a disastrous note. Fortunately for him, these games do not count in the standings.

Guardians

Spring training ends in a thud for Tanner Bibee in 10-7 loss to Giants

Published: Mar. 21, 2026, 6:57 p.m.

By Paul Hoynes, cleveland.com

SCOTTSDALE — The day after Tanner Bibee was named opening night starter for the Guardians, he made his last start of the Cactus League season Saturday against the Giants.

Let’s just say, to put it kindly, his spring-time work in the desert is done.

Bibee, after opening the game with seven straight outs, allowed eight runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings in a 10-7 loss to the Giants at Scottsdale Stadium.

In six spring starts, Bibee is 1-3 with a 6.65 ERA. He has allowed 32 hits and 17 earned runs in 23 innings. In a Cactus League oddity, he finished the spring with 19 strikeouts and zero walks.

“I didn’t walk a batter?” said Bibee. “That’s cool.”

In his last two starts, Bibee has allowed 14 earned runs on 23 hits. All that damage has come in 10 1/3 innings.

On the offensive side, Travis Bazzana helped balance that with a pair of home runs, including a grand slam. He hit a left-on-left homer off former Cy Young winner Robbie Ray in the fifth inning. He followed that with a grand slam off right-hander Trevor McDonald, who pitched briefly with the Giants last year, in the sixth to cut the Giants lead to 8-6.

Bazzana, who will open the season at Triple-A Columbus, is hitting .381 (8 for 21) with three homers and 11 RBI.

“I’m just trying to make the most of every at-bat and inning on defense,” said Bazzana. “Since the intensity of the WBC (World Baseball Classic) it reminds you that you have to play every pitch to win with a really high intensity.”

It was 96 degrees at game time. By late in the game, it was 103 degrees — not the best conditions to play baseball.

“Terrible,” said Bibee. “I think we’re coming off four-night games and an off day, and we play a noon game when it’s 105 degrees across the valley. These aren’t the easiest conditions, but it’s going to be like this is Los Angeles so it will be good, it will be solid.”

The Guardians open the regular season with a seven-game trip against Seattle and the Dodgers. The season opener is Thursday in Seattle.

Bibee had two outs in the third when Jung Hoo Lee singled to send Jared Oliva to third. Matt Chapman followed with a two-run double to right. Rafael Devers singled to score Chapman for a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth, Oliva, who started the third- inning rally with a bunt single, hit a three-run homer for a 6-0 lead. Lee homered as well for a 7-0 lead.

Bibee says he feels good about his spring despite what the stats say.

“I feel like the main thing is health,” said Bibee. “I don’t think I really had a successful season last year and I had a sub 2.00 ERA (1.88) in spring training.

“So, it’s OK. It (spring training) is not completely indicative of what’s going to happen. I’m healthy and that’s the main thing.”

Manager Stephen Vogt said the last two starts have not gone Bibee’s way, but added, “When there’s a third deck at the ballpark, and the lights get brighter, Tanner shows up. His stuff is moving the way we want it to move.”

Jace LaViolette, Cleveland’s No. 1 pick last year, hit a 425-foot homer in the ninth for the Guardians’ final run.

The Guardians are 14-13-1. The Giants are 19-9-1.

Next
RHP Gavin Williams (1-1, 5.68) will face the Reds on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. ET at Goodyear Ballpark. The Reds have not named a starter.

Guardians say goodbye to Arizona with three homers in 10-5 win over Diamondbacks

Updated: Mar. 24, 2026, 8:26 p.m.|Published: Mar. 24, 2026, 7:33 p.m.

By Paul Hoynes, cleveland.com

PHOENIX — The Guardians ended their stay in the Arizona desert on Tuesday by hitting three home runs in a 10-5 win over the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

As they did in Monday’s win over the D-backs, the Guardians struck early.

Angel Martinez opened the game with a single off Michael Soroka. He stole second and came around to score on Brayan Rocchio’s homer into the right field seats.

Gabriel Arias pushed the first-inning lead to 4-0 with a two-run single with the bases loaded.

Daniel Schneemann made it 6-0 with a two-run homer in the third. His first homer of the spring came on the last day of spring training.

In Monday’s 7-0 win, Chase DeLauter and Jose Ramirez hit consecutive homers in the first inning.

Rookie lefty Parker Messick worked through three scoreless innings with the early lead but ran into trouble in the fourth. He allowed four runs as Arizona made it a 6-4 game.

Messick didn’t make it through the inning, but manager Stephen Vogt still felt he did a good job.

“I thought Parker was really efficient,” said Vogt. “He got sped up in the fourth, but I couldn’t have been more thrilled with the way he pitched.”

Messick went 3-0 with a 4.12 ERA in five games, including four starts, this spring. He struck out 17 in 19 2/3 innings.

The Guardians turned to their 2025 draft class to put the game away.

Nolan Schubart, Cleveland’s third round pick in 2025, pushed the lead to 9-5 with a three-run homer off Sandro Santana in the eighth inning. Schubart, 6-foot-5 and 223 pounds, was drafted out of Oklahoma State.

Jace LaViolette, Cleveland’s No. 1 pick in 2025, went 2 for 3 as a defensive replacement in left field. LaViolette, drafted out of Texas A&M, is 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds.

Minor league right-hander Zane Morehouse started the eighth for Cleveland. He hit three straight batters as the crowd booed. He struck out the next batter but followed with a walk to force home a run before being relieved.

“We’ve seen Morehouse throw really well,” said Vogt. “He was just really wild. Maybe he had a little extra juice today.”

The Guardians finished the spring at 16-14-1.

While Vogt was ready to get the regular season started, he was pleased with what the Guardians accomplished in spring training.

“The spring couldn’t have gone better,” said Vogt. “We did a lot of things really well. We had a really good showing from our young players, both on our team and those coming soon.

“There’s a lot to be excited about. Our staff absolutely crushed it this spring.”
