I also made it the game yesterday. Great weather except too much sun where I was sitting in right field; not too many Blue Jays fans out my way. The offense was all Tena ad Rocchio. Thor was not bad. Sandlin bailed him out; wished he had returned after facing one batter. DeLos Santos was terrible. It took Stephan 30 pitches to get out of the mess but he did the job. Hentges was fine and Clase had a nice quick ninth.

Other than the interminable top of the 7th [50 pitches, a pitching change, a balk, and an ejection] the game moved along at a sprightly pace.
And I found an affordable sandwich: $6 for a grilled cheese at Melt [billed as the "kiddie sandwich"]

not to mention all 3 of our 9th inning runs came on wild pitches.
and don't forget the miserable performance by Norris a few innings earlier: 4 walks ; then a key error by Giminez and the Rays scored 3 runs on no hits, too.

One of the worst ball games played anywhere outside of Little League
Way back at the beginning Civale pitched an ok 5 innings; Curry a not quite so good 5+ innings.

Twins on a 4 game losing streak (swept by Detroit) and we can't pick up a game.

This is going to be a long second half of the season especially if Ramirez continues his slide.

By the time everyone is healthy, it probably will be too late to mount a charge to first place in the division. But that's our only way through the door.

A wild card slot is out of the question being 8.5 games behind as of today.

News & Notes: Guardians and Twins both enjoy another losing night

News and Notes for Saturday, August 12, 2023

By Quincy Wheeler Aug 12, 2023, 8:00am EDT

In an almost unprecedented battle of futility, the Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins both lost again. At least this time, the Guardians did so in a different manner, with a sacrifice bunt from Andres Gimenez in the first inning, a Myles Straw homer, attempting to pitch Xzavion Curry a third time through an order, 45 pitches from Daniel Norris, a crucial error on a hard-hit ground ball to Andres Gimenez playing pulled-in, and two walks from Kole Calhoun in the cleanup spot. At least we got the familiar failure of a generally reliable bullpen arm in Nick Sandlin’s hanging slider offered up to Wander Franco.

Ah well, today is a new day! Hopefully, Gavin Williams can get some run support from the rejuvenated Guardians’ lineup.

Around MLB:

Josh Bell hit another homer for the Marlins HIS 4TH. It’s fine the Guardians traded Bell, but, man, I wish he’d have shown this while he was here because we all knew he was capable of it.

Guardians star Jose Ramirez has suspension reduced to 2 games

Ramirez, who knocked Anderson to the ground with a wild, well-placed punch, will serve the suspension this weekend during Cleveland's series in Tampa Bay. Ramirez won't play Saturday or Sunday.

You can't trust Clase in a non-save situation and you can't trust him in a save situation.

Clase is personally responsible for the situation we're in right now. The guy is totally unreliable this year. He's blown too many big leads.

This is a very bad situation. You can't let these young pitchers make quality starts only to find the team blowing them.

This is a complicated situation we are in and where do you start to fix it?

Did anyone have the same feeling I had when Clase entered the game?

This is depressing when you know you can be sitting in first place right now.

Guess it is as frustrating as it is depressing.

It going to be a new week and a new ball game. Time to start over again. It can only get better, right?
