Great job of relief pitching by Herrin [K'd all 4 of his first major league batters] Sandlin, de los Santos, Morgan and Stephan who got the save.
And thank you to Mariners Cal Raleigh for game-winning error.
Re: GameTime!™
26102Yesterday's Number One game hero was Xzavion Curry who gave the Guardians 5 innings of relief and just the 2 runs in his final inning.
Of course Jose Ramirez was Hero Number two for his RBI triple, his hustle to score a run and game winning hit
I was concerned about Clase's suboptimal spring training.
I was hardly surprised by Plesac who I was eager to see replaced in the rotation by Cody Morris. That couldn't happen with Morris on the IL
Even though Plesac is terrible, they are likely to stick with him awhile with one rookie already in the rotation.
Of course, it's always possible Plesac will get angry again and smash his hand into something hard.
I am hopeful that Tanner Bibee or Logan Allen, who have yet to pitch for the Clippers, proves himself soon to be ready for a major league trial.

26103Good signs so far from the West Coast.
Winning Ugly!
Some poor pitching.
Some good pitching.
The defense is off to a rough start.
Josh "Ding Dong" Bell has gone AWOL.
Getting help from unexpected places.
Rather be lucky than good sometimes.
Hey!
Guess What?
We're 4-1.
I'd like to see what happens when this team really starts to jell.

Re: GameTime!™
26104Josh has drawn 6 walks and struck out only 5 times in his 23 plate appearances. But he's had no success getting the ball into the air [a problem we've read about before for him] His Ground Out to Air Out ration is 5-1. That sounds like 2 balls in the air in his first 5 games, maybe only 1. Quite a cleanup hitter.
Re: GameTime!™
26105In case anyone says, We couldn't do any worse with Franmil Reyes, the stats disagree.
Reyes caught on with the Royals. He's had 8 plate appearances, drawn 2 walks, struck out 5 times, hit one fair fall out

Re: GameTime!™
26106It turns out that Zunino can't block pitches in the dirt. Lots of wild pitches due to his failure. Let a run score yesterday that gave up the lead.
I'd much prefer Austin Hedges or Roberto Perez hitting .150 with a .500 OPS who can play the position.
For now, I'm willing to see if Gallagher or V can use their gloves while we wait for Bo Naylor to be faster-traced.

26107Terry Pluto reports that Plesac's awful start didn't surprise him after watching Zach is spring training. Curry to the rotation may not be far off

26108CLEVELAND GUARDIANS
Hunter Gaddis looked phenomenal and 5 other things as the Cleveland Guardians close out the Oakland A’s
by Chad Porto
April 5, 2023 28 minutes ago
Hunter Gaddis looked good in his second outing of the season for the Cleveland Guardians, as they took Game 3 from the Oakland A’s.
The Oakland A’s made Game 3 an interesting one. They rallied in the 8th to score four runs, with rookie Tim Herrin giving up three of those runs on his own. The Guardians had scored two runs in back-to-back innings, thanks to timely hitting from Cam Gallagher and Andres Gimenez, both men driving in two off of a double and a single respectively.
Usually, a 4-0 lead is pretty easy to protect but Nick Sandlin and Herrin allowed one home run apiece. Sandlin gave up one to Ryan Noda (what a great last name), and then Herring gave up a three-run home run to former Cleveland Guardians first basemen, Jesus Aguliar.
While it’s always great to see former players thriving, that home run could’ve waited until the Guardians left Oakland, that’s all I’m saying. The Guardians rallied in the 10th with two more runs, a Will Brennan sacrifice-RBI that scored Andres Gimenez, and then a Steven Kwan single that drove in Myles Straw.
Here are five things from the Cleveland Guardians’ 3rd game against the Oakland A’s
Hunter Gaddis’ bounce-back game
Hunter Gaddis bounced back in a big way. He gave up just one hit and just two walks while striking out four. It isn’t utter domination but he was able to hold the A’s bats at bay with some great stuff.
Rookie woes
Tim Herrin’s stat line is rough. He walked two guys and then gave up a three-run home run. It happens, the rookie will learn, but it didn’t help his Rookie Class to see Gabriel Arias go 0-3 with two walks. Granted, getting two walks isn’t shabby but after his Game 2 outing, it would’ve been nice to see more of that developing power he has.
Clutch play from the reserves
Cam Gallagher and Will Brennan stepped up for the Guardos. Gallagher drove in two today, while Brennan drove in another in the Guardians’ win over the A’s.
Why the Guardians carried three catchers
Oh, so that’s why. Mike Zunino had an off day so Cam Gallagher got the start. Yet, he was pulled from the game so that Will Brennan could pinch-hit for him. After Brennan did his thing, the Guardians then put in Meibrys Viloria to finish the game. This allowed some flexibility for Terry Francona and while another reliever would’ve been better still, at least this rare occasion shed some light on the decision.
Myles Straws shows up
Myles Straw got on base three times today, and now has a split of .364/.517/.409. We’ll have to see how long Straw continues this hot start. It may be a fluke or it may be his new normal. Only time will tell.
Josh Bell and Amed Rosario continue to struggle
Josh Bell went 1-5 with two strikeouts today. He and Amed Rosario are both chasing at some bad pitches. Rosario and Bell lead the team in strikeouts with nine and seven respectively through seven games. Andres Gimenez is also tied with Bell for seven strikeouts, but his slash line is .321/.387/.464. Bell’s is .091/.276/.091 and Rosario’s is .182/.200/.182. So when they raise their slash to Gimenez’s level, they can stop being singled out for striking out like Adam Dunn in his prime.
The Guards won 6-4 in 10 innings to move to 5-2 on the season.

26109Why the Guardians carried three catchers
Because Zunino has left pitches roll past him. Cleveland leads the league in wild pitches with 7 and not because they have wild pitchers.

Re: GameTime!™
26110another cruddy start by Q; 4 hits and a walk yield 2 first inning runs. 2,,more hits produce one in the 2nd and there's only one out at this point. ERA 9.92. Much better than Plesac wo goes tomoorow
Re: GameTime!™
26111Mariners are up to 7 hits in the 3rd inning. Quantrill is not on long-term contract; good thing.
Re: GameTime!™
26112Skanks come to Cleveland. G's win the game in typical G's fashion. Bieber and the boys very good. No gopher balls. 3 doubles by our catcher. Skanks pitchers can't find the plate...9 walks. Skanks catchers can't throw anybody out....4 SB
Should have happened last fall.

26113And today...
Well I will just refer you to the Articles folder and the article about calling up Bibee.
Haven't we about had it with the over concern of calling up kids off the 40 man so they have to cut some SCRUB off it?
Sheesh guys use your best pitchers. That's what contenders do.
T Bay, of all teams, just called up Taj Bradley when Eflin was injured. Their top pitching prospect. Do the same.

Re: GameTime!™
26115Battlefield today. Leadoff double. K of Judge then 2 groundouts that weren't close at 1st but should've if Rizzo and Stanton could run.
