CLEVELAND, Ohio —
Shane Bieber makes his second spring training start of 2023 on Saturday when the Guardians travel to Mesa to take on Oakland at 3:05 p.m. EST. Cleveland is 4-4 in its first eight Cactus League games and is facing the Athletics for the first time in exhibition play this spring.
Brennan has hits in each of his last three games, including doubles against the Cubs and Brewers, and sports a 1.080 OPS.
PLAY OF THE DAY
Petey Halpin’s three-run double in the eighth inning gave Cleveland a 7-4 lead and eventually the win against Milwaukee on Friday. Halpin also drew a walk and scored a run in three plate appearances.
GUARDIANS ON THE MOUND
Bieber went two innings in his spring debut on Monday, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout. He threw 13 pitches in that outing and could get out to three innings against the A’s. Scheduled to follow Bieber to the mound are James Karinchak, Trevor Stephan, Konnor Pilkington, Touki Touissant, Caleb Simpson and Michael Kelly.
GUARDIANS AT THE PLATE
Infielder Juan Brito has appeared in seven spring games and walked six times. Acquired from the Rockies in a January trade for Nolan Jones, Brito has yet to strike out and has scored six runs. His six walks lead all of baseball in exhibition play, and his .615 on-base percentage is second among Guardians players with at least seven at-bats behind Meibrys Viloria.
