Meibrys Viloria hit two homers that drove in four runs and Ronaldo Hernández connected for another that produced two more and Tigres de Cartagena defeated Vaqueros de Montería 8-7 in a close duel to equalize the series 1-1 in the final playoff of the Liga Profesional de Colombian Baseball, this Wednesday at the Once de Noviembre Abel Leal stadium in La Heroica.
Viloria knocked it out of the park in the first inning with the bases empty against Eduar López. In the fourth Viloria repeated against Samuel Burgos, but this time he found Deibinson Romero and Jesús Marriaga on the base paths to put Tigres up 5-2.
Reinaldo 'Chencho' Rodríguez responded in the fifth, against Will Changarotty, with a home run that found Carlos Herrera on base to shorten the difference to 5-4.
But, in the bottom part of that inning, Ronaldo Hernández joined the home run festival and, against Hernando Mejía, he ripped it with Óscar Mercado on base to once again give Tigres a three-run lead 7-4.
Vaqueros discounted with one in the sixth, scored by Andrés Angulo, who reached on a double, and tied 7-7 in the seventh, thanks to a single by Pabel Manzanero that drove in Reinaldo Rodríguez and Jordan Díaz.
The winning run for Tigres also came in the seventh. Ronaldo Hernández walked and Víctor Nova singled. Jhon Peluffo came on to relieve Elvis Araújo and hit Deibinson Romero and Jesús Marriaga with balls so that Hernández scored from third for the final 8-7.
The victory went to Guillermo Zúñiga, who worked two innings without allowing hits or runs. He walked one and struck out three batters.
The game was lost by Elvis Araújo, who spent an inning and a third on the mound and the save was scored by Óscar Marcelino, who hung up the last three outs.
With the series tied at one win per side, this Friday they move to the 18 de Junio de Montería stadium for the third game. The appointment is at 7:00 pm
