Third round: Tigres and Vaqueros meet again in Montería on Friday night

By Augusto Cesar Puello Mestre

January 20, 2023

The grand final of Colombian baseball continues tonight with the duel between Tigres de Cartagena and Vaqueros de Montería at the 18 de Junio stadium in Montería. The series, tied at one game, will now be played over three days in Montería.

The Tigers traveled without third baseman Deibinson Romero, who broke one of his fingers in Game 2 action. In fact, the Tigers team submitted a petition to Diprobeisbol, seeking authorization to replace the Caribbean player, but there was no positive response from the organization, which argues that the only one who can be replaced is the player who came as a reinforcement.

In Montería, both teams will play their eighth game so far this season. Tigres has not done badly, in the previous seven games they have brought 3 victories and succumbed in the other 4 games. The final series of baseball in Colombia is played for the best of 7 games, so it will be necessary for one of the teams to win all three games in Córdoba so that the series does not return to Cartagena on Tuesday the 24th.

By FABIOLA SABEDRA

JANUARY 20, 2023

With 20,674 fans present at the UCV park, Leones defeated Navegantes del Magallanes 3-2 in the last game of the Round Robin of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

The Lions had nothing to lose, since they had already qualified for the final this Thursday in Maracay, but their honor against their oldest rival did not allow them to give up.

By the fourth inning the score was even 2-2, it should be noted that for each inning the teams were adding one run.

Magallanes, without being certain of advancing forward on this day played with his entire arsenal that resulted in extra innings.

And it could not be otherwise, both teams represent the true Venezuelan baseball. Of course, the fans in Caracas responded to the call.

Caracas came out on top thanks to a home run that Harold Castro connected to center field at the 10th inning, ending the duel.

The Turks add another day without victory at the University Stadium.

Navegantes have a 7-8 record, while the semifinal leaders are 10-6.

Cardinals do everything possible to stay afloat

Tigres de Aragua said goodbye to the 2022/23 season

By FABIOLA SABEDRA

JANUARY 20, 2023

Cardenales de Lara continues to cling to a miracle in the semifinals of the Venezuelan Baseball League (LVBP), for this Friday they defeated Tigres de Aragua 7-2, causing the Maracay team to lower the curtain on the remainder of the season .

The Bengals started the game on the right foot, in the first inning they recorded their first run as a result of a double by José "Cafecito" Martínez that batted in Alexi Amarista.

When the Cardenales had their turn at bat, they tied the game thanks to Odubel Herrera.

The game was slow in terms of adding runs. Already in the sixth inning Rangel Ravelo dispatched a double which brought home Pedro Castellanos 3-1.

Cardenales continued with their flight until the end of the game, little by little, but managed to defeat Tigres.

Aragua leaves the LVBP with a 6-9 record in the Round Robin occupying the bottom position of the standings. While Lara continues to stay alive at 7-8 in third place.

LVBP: Cardenales reach the key game as the team with the best winning streak

By Franco Villanueva

01/21/2023

The Cardenales de Lara used an extra life to reach the last day of the Round Robin with still a chance, the team that seemed to be the first to be eliminated a week ago recovered to keep hopes alive, although right now they do not depend on themselves.

The Cardenales went through a losing streak in which they had lost 4 consecutive games but just when it seemed that this streak was taking them out of the race, they took a second wind to change the defeats for victories and scare their rivals in recent days.

Lara presents a commendable balance of 37 runs scored for 12 allowed in the last four games, which speaks of a great change within the team, despite not having incorporated key players in these last games.

Currently, the Round Robin series between the Cardenales and Magallanes is in favor of the Navegantes. Lara prevailed forcefully in the first game, which they won 7-1, but in the following two they lost.

In this context, Lara could not qualify directly even if they win, the most they can hope for if they defeat Magallanes and Tiburones loses against Tigres, there would tie for second place against La Guaira and force an extra game to define the second place team and classify for the last ticket to the finals.

LVBP: These are the combinations that could define the second ticket to the final

By Meridian Writing

01/21/2023

The postseason of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League 2022-2023 is nearing its end, today it could be defined which team is the second that will qualify and face the Leones del Caracas for the championship.

Right now there are three possibilities for three different teams, only the Tigres de Aragua does not have any numerical possibility and is eliminated, in the absence of this last and decisive day.

In the first game today, if the Sharks manage to beat the Tigers, the La Guaira will advance to the finals no matter what happens with the other games, it is as simple as that, if they win they will be in the finals.

The other two teams with possibilities are the Navegantes del Magallanes and the Cardenales de Lara. Today both teams meet in the last game, they must win and wait for a defeat by Sharks to be able to force an extra game.

The loser of that game is automatically eliminated, and in the event that La Guaira wins its game against Tigres, it will not matter who is the winner between Cardenales and the Navegantes, they would not have any options.

Tiburones de la Guaira sign their ticket to the finals

The sharks will fight for the LVBP title against the Leones del Caracas

By SAIRUBY ALAYON FLORES

JANUARY 21, 2023

Tiburones de La Guaira signed their ticket to the Grand Final of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

Those from the coast will face the Leones del Caracas starting next Monday, January 23.

The sharks defeated the Tigres de Aragua 8-5 in a great match before more than 18,000 people who packed the Ciudad Universitaria stadium in Caracas.

The coastal team had not reached a baseball semifinal in Venezuela since the 2011-2012 season when they faced the Tigres and lost in four games.

The last final in which Caracas-La Guaira would collide was in the 86-87 season, in which Leones would remain champion.

In this final it was the remembered feat of Urbano Lugo Jr, who delivered his mythical Nohit-NoRun game against the sharks.

Aragua left a season with good numbers that allowed them to be among the top positions in the classification standings.

In this Saturday's game LaGuaira started to score first in the opening inning.

Maikel García began the inning with a single to center field, while Franklin Barreto homered to make it 2-0 in the game.

Aragua got a run back when Johan López got an infield single and reached third on a throwing error and would score on a fly ball by Carlos Tocci.

The sharks' fourth run came in on a home run by Balbino Fuenmayor that batted in Danry Vásquez.

The next at bat would be Ángel Reyes who went back to back and would take it out of the park and leave the score 5-1.

Johan López de los Tigres drove in two runs in the fourth inning to make it 5-3.

Franklin Barreto would homer to the centerfield stands to add one more run in favor of the Sharks.

The Tigers would not give up and Carlos Rivero would hit a solo shot to bring the fourth line for the Maracay troops.

The match turned into a give and take but the sharks would not lose the advantage over the Tigers.

The Sharks' pitching would dominate against the Sharks and not allow any more runs.

Edubray Ramos was in charge of getting the last three outs of the game to sign their pass to the finals of the LVBP.

The winning pitcher of the game went to Arnaldo Hernandez (3-0), while the defeat went to Cristopher Molina (0-1).
