The team from Cartagena, who reached 13 consecutive victories, secured first place in the regular season and will wait for the winner of the five-game series between Vaqueros and Caimanes, second and third, respectively, to define the champion.
Against Toros, Tigres began to make the difference in the third inning by scoring two runs on a double by Adrián Sánchez that drove in Juan García and Óscar Mercado.
Tigres increased the score to 4-0 in their favor in the fourth, thanks to a solo home run by Víctor Nova, his seventh of the season, and then with a triple by Brallan Pérez that drove in Jonathan Lozada, who singled and stole second.
Toros discounted one in the fifth through rookie Jeam Kair Arévalo, who scored on Robinson Cabrera's single.
In the bottom of that inning, Tigres produced one more on the legs of Adrián Sánchez, who was hit by a pitched ball, advanced to third after Deibinson Romero and Víctor Nova drew walks, and scored on Lozada's sacrifice fly to center field.
Toros responded with two runs in the sixth scored by Gerson Jiménez and Andrés Noriega, the latter after Arévalo's single.
The winning pitcher was Luis Ariza (2-0), who in six complete innings allowed six hits, one run, two walks and three strikeouts. Óscar Marcelino worked the last inning and scored his fifth save in the championship.
The defeat was for Juan Yanes (0-1), who spent four innings on the mound. He gave up five hits, four runs, three walks and struck out five.
This Sunday (4:00 pm), Tigres will close the regular season by visiting Vaqueros in Montería. Toros, at the same time, will play against Caimanes, in Barranquilla.
