In turn, the work of starter Braden Webb stood out, adding eight strikeouts in seven complete innings to continue leading that department in the league with 53.

Richie Palacios (2B, Mayaguez): 2-for-5, R, 2B, RBI, BB – The leadoff man for Mayaguez took advantage of the inherited runner rule when extra innings started as Palacios sparked a four-run bottom of the tenth with a leadoff RBI double to left. He came around to score on a two-out double and the next batter walked the game off with a homerun. A single in the bottom of the third and walk in the bottom of the seventh both came with two outs in his other productive at-bats of the game.

Danny Ortiz with a walk-off home run for the Indios de Mayagüez

Second walk-off in extra innings for the Indios de Mayagüez

For the second night in a row, the Indios de Mayagüez walk off hit in extra innings to get their sixth victory in a row.

This time, they defeated the RA12 team by a final score of 8-7 with a movie-like ending the end product of a two-run home run by the champion of the home run competition, Danny Ortiz in the tenth inning.

The victory went to the reliever Willie Ríos who pitched one inning, while Miguel Cirino did not have the same luck giving up three earned runs and one unearned in one inning.

Bladimir Restituyo scored RA12's first run in the first inning, a lead they maintained until the eighth inning when Mayaguez combined a triple by Henry Ramos and a single by Roberto Enriquez to give the Indians a 2-1 lead.

A three-run rally for the Roberto Alomar team game them the 4-2 advantage in the top of the ninth inning, but a 2-run homer by Josh Palacios again leveled the score at four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning causing extra innings for the second night in a row.

With the runner rule at second, RA12 took the opportunity to score three runs to take a 7-4 lead on Dilan Rosario's sacrifice fly and Kemuel Thomas's double, but the Indians came ready to defend their home in the bottom of the tenth.

A double by Richie Palacios put the fifth run on the board for the Indians. Emmanuel Rivera's base hit tied the ballgame which set the stage for Danny Ortiz to say goodbye on a walk-off homer to right to put a lock on the game. The Indians take the second position of the tournament.

<

Eric Rodriguez (C, Carolina): 1-for-1 – Rodriguez entered as a defensive replacement in the sixth inning and made the most of his only plate appearance on the day. Rodriguez hit a line drive single to right field in the bottom of the seventh, but a forceout removed him from the basepaths.

Johnathan Rodriguez (LF, Carolina): 0-for-2, RBI – The 23-year-old outfielder drove in a run by putting the ball in play in the first inning, but was not credited with a hit after a fielding error. His at-bat in the third ended in a groundout and was removed before his next plate appearance.

Enyel De Los Santos (RHP, Licey): H (2), 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BBs, K – De Los Santos pitched a scoreless sixth inning for his second hold in the Dominican Winter League, but it was not without heavy breathing. He allowed two batters to reach on balls to lead off the frame, but a visit from the pitching coach helped to settle his nerves. A fielder’s choice, strikeout and groundout allowed the big league reliever to get out of the jam.

Dahan Batista (RHP, Barranquilla): 0.2 IP, H, ER, BB – A single and walk to start the fifth inning spoiled the outing for the 22-year-old Batista as two flyouts on the proceeding batters allowed the runners to advance and plated a run. The reliever was able to get a groundout to first to avoid further damage.

JOSE TENA

Jose Tena, SS, Estrellas Orientales (D.R.) CLE No. 16
The 21-year-old Tena has been a fixture in the lineup for the Estrellas (Stars) since the beginning of the winter season, starting at shortstop for the club. Tena was excellent in October, hitting .333 in 14 games with a four-hit night at the end of the month, but has struggled in November with a .192 clip in 14 contests. The 2022 regular season was largely a success for Tena, finishing in Triple-A and putting himself in position to serve as infield depth for the Guardians next year.

Jose hasn't seen any game time in past two weeks. He was struggling in November. Crunch time as team are positioning themselves for the playoffs.

GEORGE VALERA

George Valera (RF, Estrellas Orientales)
Slow starts tend to get guys benched in these leagues. George Valera had a slow start in the Dominican and has been glued to the bench. Teams in the winter leagues....it's all about winning....have a tendency to bench or release struggling players quickly.

George Valera hasn’t played in weeks for Estrellas.

Probably a good indication that Valera's and Tena's seasons have ended.

Johnathan Rodriguez (LF, Carolina): 2-for-4, BB – Rodriguez reached base in three of his five plate appearances in the win Wednesday. He singled right away in the top of the first inning to threaten an early score for Carolina, but was unable to do so. His other single came in the top of the third and he drew a walk in the fifth, but his final two at-bats of the night resulted in outs.

Richie Palacios (2B, Mayaguez): 0-for-3, R, RBI, 3 BBs – Despite not recording a hit, Palacios drew three walks from the leadoff spot. He began the game with a base on balls and added a bases loaded free base that drove in a run in the second. He scored on a triple later in the frame. His third walk of the game came in the fourth inning.

Oscar Gonzalez (LF, Estrelles): 1-for-4, R – Gonzalez had four at-bats in a blowout victory for Estrelles to go to 2-1 in the postseason. His only hit was an infield single in the top of the seventh and he was on for a homerun by the next hitter. He was lifted for a defensive replacement in the bottom half of the inning.

Meibrys Viloria (C, Cartagena): 0-for-1, R, RBI, BB, SF – Viloria drove in a first inning run with a sacrifice fly to left field that ended up being the only run the team needed in the shutout. His walk in the fourth inning resulted in another run. With the game well in hand, Viloria was removed from the game in the top of the sixth.

Dayan Frias (SS, Monteria): 1-for-3, 3B, BB – Frias drew a walk in the second inning and tripled in the fourth, but was unable to get anything going for the Monteria offense in a shutout.
