Hey seagull today with Cincy was more of the same.

Evidently the plan was to hire a new hitting coach and go with contact hitting skills. Move runners, hit doubles, steal bases.

Kwan and Owen Miller lead the way at this point and it is legit. By legit I mean if you watch the at-bats of those 2 guys they have great reactions, quick hands and good eyes. Go to all fields.

IF you can get these guys pestering pitchers then makes Josee's job much easier and this lineup is doing it. Today even Gimenez hit a key homer while trying to hit a sac. fly.

It's their best hope to support the pitching.

Catches now are 0-26. Maile has returned to action in Columbus which means a really big shot in the arm is coming soon. He went 9-30 in his brief major league stop last year and has a fine career OPS of 568; compared with Hedges this season 136 and career 590

I can put up with no offense behind the plate if the defense is top notch which I think is the case with Hedges.

it turns out Chang is on the DL because of a positive COVID test

Now also testing positive are: Owen Miller, Cal Quantrill and Anthony Castro. Apparently they could be back as soon as April 24 if get two back to back negative tests.

In the meantime the Guardians recall most of the Columbus pitching staff [one of these guys are on the 40 man roster but I guess there's exceptions for COVID replacements?)
Tanner Tully OSU lefty who has never been very good
Kyle McCarty another lefty who has had pretty decent minor league stats but never made a prospect list
RH reliever Enyel de los Santos who has had some major league experience and who Tito liked in spring training

I don't quite understand the current roster situation.

To start with the G's have 28 on the active roster, 12 more on minor league assignment or the major league IL
Then we put 3 on the COVID list and replaced them with 3 not on the 40 man roster.

Since then 2 of the 3 COVID postives have returned. Castro remains inactive and they probably don't care to bring him back
1 of the 3 replacement players, Enyel de la Santos is still on hand.

Sunday they brought Miller back from the covid list without returning a replacment, instead they optioned Pilkington.
Why was that legit?

Yesterday they returned McCarty and replaced him with Palacios who is on the 40 man roster.
Does Palacios count as one of the 28 man roster? Or is he a special COVID replacement?

They were able to make for Palacios to replace Kwan without putting Steven on IL by returning McCarty. Why is that allowed?

And then more generally about the non-40 man roster replacement players: are they using an option when they are returned? Are they accruing service time? Do they get paid major league minimum?

And finally: can they just sort of sneak Bobby Bradley off the roster without anyone knowing?

Guardians Claim Luis Oviedo From Pirates
By Anthony Franco | April 26, 2022 at 6:12pm CDT

The Guardians have claimed right-hander Luis Oviedo off waivers from the Pirates, reports John Dreker of Pirates Prospects (Twitter link). Pittsburgh had designated Oviedo for assignment last week. Cleveland had a vacancy on the 40-man roster, but they’ll need to create spots for both Anthony Castro and Yu Chang once those players are ready to be reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list.

Oviedo returns to his original organization. Cleveland signed the 6’4″ hurler out of Venezuela during the 2015-16 international signing period. He spent five seasons in their farm system, never advancing past Low-A. Oviedo’s numbers in the low minors weren’t great, but he worked in the mid-upper 90s with a sinker and had a pair of promising breaking pitches. Baseball America named him the #8 prospect in the organization entering the 2019 season, although he dipped to 18th the following year due to concerns about his control and minor league performance.
