Cleveland minor league catcher Andrés Meléndez dies at 20. Meléndez died suddenly at 20 years old in Miami, Fla. on Thursday afternoon, the team announced. The cause of death is not immediately known.


"A member of Low-A Lynchburg in 2021, Meléndez is remembered by his teammates and friends as a positive, respectful and thoughtful young man with a beautiful smile who had a profound impact on others," the team said in a statement. "He will be greatly missed."

Meléndez slashed .247/.367/.431 and had eight home runs and 46 RBIs in 73 games.
