Ka'ai Tom homered and stole a base on Saturday in a loss to the Cubs.

Tom's homer off of Trevor Williams is his first MLB roundtripper. The steal is also his first in the bigs. A Rule 5 pick by the Athletics who was claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh near the end of April, Tom has a day he'll remember forever.

3 wins one loss; total record now 17-3.

Columbus now 4-1 with a 6-3 victory. Starter Eli Morgan not very effective: 3 1/3 5 3 3 4 3
Daniel Johnson first appearance was perfect: 2 walks 2 singles.
Nolan Jones extended his hitting streak to 2 games. Struck out twice; that makes 11 in 22 plate appearances. vs lefties 0-4 with 3 K.
Ernie Clement in LF; his 4th double in 5 games;
Bradley streak ends at one. did draw 2 walks to match his 2 strikeouts. 9K in 23 appearances
Mercado 0-5 with 2 K.
Zimmer with a good day, no K's at all; of course he didn't play
Gabriel Arias 0-4 drops to 118
sort of veteran Tyler Krieger with 2 singles.
oh and of course Owen Miller with 2 hits, one a bases clearing double; he was the DH

Akron moves to 5-0 with a 5-1 win.
Not just did Oscar Gonzalez connect on his 3rd homer, bringing his RBI total, but much more unusually he drew a walk. Let's see if he moves up in the batting order, he was 7th yesterday, 8th earlier in the week.
Bo Naylor singled and not so rarely walked, his 4th.
Tyler Freeman with a single
Shane McCarthy RH not to be confused with Columbus' LH Kyle McCarty 3-2-1-1-3-2
Tom Ponticello and F. Perez [3K in 1 2/3 IP] and Dakody Clemmer [4 batters 4 K] shutout relief the rest of the way.

Notably absent from any box score and seems no longer on any roster is LH Joey Cantillo. With Hankins and Vargas out we're already missing some top pitching prospects, although we've seen great work by some in the mid-range of our prospects like Wolf and Allen Jr. and Burns and Moss any of whom could break through

Last but certainly not least Lynchburg once again overwhelmed the Nationals' Fredericksburg team 7-1 [This year's schedules for all leagues are identical: 6 game series Tuesday-Sunday. So these guys may get tired of each other by the end of each week.]

Better get familiar with his name: Jhonkensy Noel only went 1-5 but it was his 3rd homer giving him 11 RBI in the 5 games.
Yainer Diaz, C with great past hitting stats, went 3-4, all singles
Will Bartlett 9th round pick last year 1B age 20 with a triple single and walk; his OPS of 1367 just a bit behind Noel's 1409
Christian Cairo walk and single
Yordys Valdes with a career high 2 hits in a game
JRod 1-4 GRod 0-4

Sergio Morillo, 6-3 190 21 year old RH 4-0-1-1-2-5. Harder to hit him than be hit by him: he nicked 3 batters.
He missed 2019 so his last work was in 2018 in Dominican League and Arizona; when his composite ERA was 1.66, Not a strikeout pitcher, but also no homers allowed and only 31 hits in 43 innings that year.
And once again shutout relief, this time a combo of 9 K in 5 innings by Arias-Bausista and D. Feliz

Like the big league club, all 4 of the teams rank among league leaders in pitching; only 1 is a leader in hitting

Offense:

Columbus 229/342/365
Akron 240/341/393
Lake County 229/285/306
Lynchburg 337/421/560

Pitching listing ERA WHIP Avg against

Columbus 2.86 1.39 .218
Akron in AA 1.80 1.27 .186
Lake County 2.93 1.21 .217
Lynchburg 2.20 0.96 .153

Sunday games:

Akron postponed
Kyle McCarty with his second start for Columbus
starters not identified for LC and Lyn. But I would expect we see Lenny Torres for the Hillcats; and Mason Hickman for Captains; although that would mean 6 man rotations for both clubs which I've read may be a new standard in the minors this season.
