Kirk McCarty, 25 year old 5-8 [!] Lefty, opening for Columbus. Career record of 10-20 4.12 not beyond High A.

Eli Lingos as noted going for Akron; his career record is 6-5. 22nd round pick. 24 year old 5-11 lefty

Hunter Gaddis by contrast a big 6-5 RH age 23 starting for Lake County. a 5th round pick. Career record 1-3, only in short season ball. He's got some good scouting writeups.

Unknown for Lynchburg.

the 3 above with a classy career mark of 17-28.

3 teams underway, Aeros delayed by rain.
Columbus scores 5 in the first; a lineup of major league flops: 1. Gamel 2 Mercado 3 Zimmer 4 Bradley.
The long ball though was off the bat of 21 year old SS Gabriel Arias who impressed in Spring games with the majorleague club. Nolan Jones off a 2 strikeout start on his season.

Akron hits Naylor 3rd I'm almost sure he's the youngest guy there

Lake County leads off Tena Lavastida 3rd Valera 4th Rocchio 6th No Bracho. He's not hurt yet again, I hope.

Lynchburg's starting pitcher is the uniquely named Xzavion Curry. Surpising defensive assignments: IF Gabriel Rodriguez is in RF. RF Johnathan Rodrigyez is at 3rd. Unless the boxscore misidentifes them. Anferni Planez must be well regarded by the Indians, they bat him 5th. On the other hand they hit Christian Cairo 6th ahead of both GRod and JRod and Cairo showed nothing in his rookie league season. Y. Valdes showed even less at bat and he must have had a terrible spring since he's hitting 9th
The X man with a good first couple innings, fanning 3. Hillcats have scored 3 on 2 singles, 3 walks and a couple errors.

a bit of checking and I find Xzavion is the 3rd short opening day pitcher. 5-11 190 RH 22 year old 7th round pick from Georgia Tech Scouting report predraft:

Xzavion Curry
Signed: $125,000
Representative: NA
Signing Scout: NA

Curry has worked as a starter for Georgia Tech his entire college career, tossing 57 innings with a 10.36 strikeouts per nine. His fastball sits in the lower 90s and tops out at 94 mph while also throwing two breaking pitches. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound righthander has a strong body and profiles more as a bullpen arm in pro ball.

Zimmer and Bradley are starting out 0-3. Clippers are up 6-2 in the 5th.
Aeros just underway, trail 1-0 bottom of 1st. A pretty terrible lineup, after Tyler Freeman hitting 2nd and Bo Naylor 3rd,
Exciting Lake County down 4-0 in the 4th Hunter has been awful: 6 hits 2 walks 4 runs no strikeouts. The only Captains hits are by catcher Bryan Lavastida who hit 335 for the Scrappers.

Lynchburg meanwhile has a big 9-0 lead after 4. Hot shot prospect prospect Gabriel Rodriguez, age 19, suddenly a Right Fielder, has a single and 3 run homer;
1B Jhonkensy Noel a single double and sac fly. DH Micah Pries too old for the league at 23 has a single a homer and 3 RBI and a walk. Curry went 4 shutout innings, with 5 strikeouts. .

Re: Minor Matters

10912
Lynchburg finished with a 16-3 win. J. Noel with a big night: single, double, homer, 4 RBI. Catcher Yainer Diaz single, walk, homer.

lake ounty lost 8-1. 2 singles each for Rocchio and Lavastida. Raynal Delgado 4Ks. Valera 0-4 with 2K
in relief of Gaddis, Tom Ponticelli 4 shutout innings, no walks, 5 K.

Aeros rallied for a 5-4 win on Oscar Gonzalez 3 run homer; he's been left unprotected for two rule 5 drafts and no one bit either time; he was batting 8th last night, so apparently he's been written off by everyone but he's still around, his other 3 at bats were all strikeouts and he;s never quite figured out how to draw a walk.
Tyler Freeman with a single and a double.

Columbus won 6-3 not thanks to Nolan Jones who debuted at AAA with 4 strikeouts.
Miller with a single and a walk; Gamel with a double and 2 singles. Mercado single and walk. Zimmer 0-4 and a walk and a steal and 2K; Bradley 0-5 but only 1 strikeout. Gose 1 2/3 a run a couple hits a walk.

BA daily prospect report debuts; one of the top highlighted players is:

Gabriel Arias, Triple-A Columbus — Arias had a loud welcome in his first regular season game in the Indians organization after arriving in a July 2020 trade from the Padres as part of the package for righthander Mike Clevinger. The 21-year-old shortstop clubbed a two-run home run in his first at-bat, finishing the night 1-for-4.

Re: Minor Matters

Juan Carlos Mejia scheduled for Columbus tonight. He was added to the 40 man roster before 2019. Due to injuries he's only reached High A for 39 innings. 6-5 Righty. BA rated him No. 37 on the Indians list
Juan Hillman, 2nd round pick behind Brady Aiken and McKenzie. He's moved one step at a time and is doing so again this year unlike many others.
No names noted for Lynchburg or Lake County starters.

Hope I see Bracho in the LC lineup tonight or that means he's again hurt.

Lynchburg, Virginia – The Lynchburg Hillcats mashed four homers and exploded for two six-run innings to defeat the Fredericksburg Nationals 16-3 on Opening Day from Bank of the James Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Xzavion Curry brought the heat in his first ever minor league game, tossing four scoreless innings and fanning five batters in his start for the Hillcats.
Lynchburg’s offense backed up Curry straight away, riding multiple free bases to take an early 2-0 lead after the first inning.
The floodgates opened for the Hillcats in the bottom of the second. Nationals pitcher Leif Strom gave up a lead-off walk to Yordys Valdes to start the frame, followed by a Julian Escobedo single and a Jhonkensy Noel sacrifice fly that brought home Valdes. Up 3-0 with Escobedo on, Newport Beach native Micah Pries launched a two-run shot over the right field wall, marking his first professional home run. Three batters later Johnathan Rodriguez put an exclamation point on the frame with a crushed home-run to left, adding three RBIs for the Hillcats slugger and giving Lynchburg a hefty 8-0 lead after just two innings of play.
The Hillcats added a run apiece in the 3rd and the 6th innings to go up double digits on the Nationals. Jaime Arias came in to pitch two shutout frames in the 5th and 6th, but Fredericksburg did get on the board in the 7th inning, knocking three hits to score three runs tagged to Arias.
The ‘Cats silenced any comeback dreams with another offensive explosion in the bottom of the eighth. The six run inning was highlighted by an Alexfri Planez solo-shot and Noel’s three-score bomb.
Daritzon Feliz finished out the game on the mound for the Hillcats, blanking the Nationals for the final 2.1 innings to secure the 16-3 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Korey Holland earned an outfield assist with a throw from centerfield to get out @JoseSanhez advancing to second.
The Nationals made five errors, compared to the Hillcats none.
