Indians activated INF Christian Arroyo from the 60-day injured list.
Arroyo was on the 60-day injured list when the Indians acquired him from the Rays along with right-hander Hunter Wood in July. The 24-year-old has disappointed so far in the majors with a .215/.280/.342 batting line in 251 plate appearances.

Indians activated OF Tyler Naquin from the 60-day injured list.
It's a procedural move for the Indians. Naquin underwent surgery in September for a torn right ACL and will likely be sidelined until around midseason next year.

Indians activated RHP Corey Kluber from the 60-day injured list.
The move puts him back on the 40-man roster. 2019 was a lost year for Kluber, who was limited to seven starts due to a fractured arm and a strained oblique.

Cody Anderson has elected to become a free agent.
Anderson was outrighted off the 40-man roster upon being activated from the 60-day injured list on Monday. The 29-year-old underwent surgery in mid-June for a torn flexor tendon, but he should be ready to pitch again in 2020.

Olson was outrighted by the Indians after being activated from the 60-day injured list. The 30-year-old compiled a 4.40 ERA over 39 relief appearances this season before missing time due to illness.

A.J. Cole has elected to become a free agent.
Cole opted to test the open market after being outrighted off the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old posted a 3.81 ERA over 25 appearances with the Indians this season before going down with a shoulder impingement.

the guys outrighted yesterday were coming off the 60 day DL. Still plenty of time to dump Phil Maton, or Hunter Wood, or Nick Goody, or Andrew Velazquez if so inclined. Ka'ai Tom is never mentioned at Indians.com but I assume they want to add him to the roster. If there's anyone else to protect it's probably a Latin American pitcher who's used up his 5 years while slowly moving through the lower levels of the farm system and I don't have identified. Most of the other guys I think about and lookup, like Eli Morgan and Kyle Nelson, are still a year away from Rule 5 eligibility.

Knowing where to find baseball expertise, the Yankees fire Larry Rothschild and hire Matt Blake from Indians as pitching. Blake had just been named our director of pitcher development, one of those analytics experts. Everyone in baseball knows that the Indians have one of the best collection of front office talents. If we had the money Yankees or Dodgers or Cubs had available we'd be perennial World Series favorites.

Get used to it, Lindor, Kris Bryant and Mookie Betts rumors will be the talk of the offseason.

First talk with Lindor is connected to the Dodgers. This is entirely natural since Gavin Lux, their prize infield prospect is as highly rated as they come and he could be (just) a starting point.

Verdugo and Lux and it's a deal.

I don't want to trade Lindor, but I'd take that.

Lux now listed as No. 6 prospect in the minors per BA. Here's the writeup:

Lux continues to get stronger and make all the right adjustments at the plate. He tore through the Double-A Texas League to earn a berth in the Futures Game and then a promotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He spread a 50-game on-base streak across Double-A and Triple-A, and hasn't gone hitless in back to back games since June 7 and 8, when he was still in the Texas League. Lux made his big league debut on Sept. 2, and with a covey of young stars already in the big leagues, he looks like the next addition to the Dodgers' young, talented juggernaut.

When I look at Dodgers' fan sites they seem to think of him as a 2B not an SS.

saw an article on mlb.com about rule 5 eligibles and discovered a couple more of our guys who ought to be protected:

Luis Oviedo 6-4 RHP only 20 years old but debuted in Dominican at age 17. Highly ranked before 2019, did not have a good year, but well worth protecting
Scott Moss 6-6 LHP age 25 came in the Bauer deal. Rated in the lower part of the top 30 prospects, pitched well in Akron and Columbus. We're low in lefties. I would rather protect them than some of the RH relievers on the current roster, e.g. Maton, Hoyt.

We have 2 spots now, for McKenzie and Johnson. Need to clear others for these two and Ka'ai Tom.

Bieber finishes 4th in the Cy Young voting. He started the season as our No. 5 starter. What's he now? NO. 2 behind Kluber? No. 3 behind Carrasco? No. 4 behind Clevinger? That's a nice rotation, isn't it?

Our new pitching coach, Ruben Niebla, just led Mexico to bronze medal in premier 12 tourney. He will coach them in 2020 olympics as well.

Looked at the list of "top 79 free agents" not sure why only 79 are listed of about 200 but anyway....

Encarnacion is No. 49. Cameron Maybin only 2 spots behind at No. 51. Josh Tomlin No. 67. And Jason Kipnis brings up the rear at No. 79. Dont' quite get the ratings process but anyway...

And Lonnie "The Calf" Chisenhall is among the 120 or so who don't make the list at all. hard to imagine anyone offering him more than a minor league deal for 2020.

The Boston Red Sox announced Monday they have traded reserve catcher Sandy Leon to the Cleveland Indians for pitcher Adenys Bautista.

Leon appeared in 65 games for the Red Sox in 2019, producing a .192 batting average and five home runs in 172 at-bats. He made 358 appearances in his five-season run in Boston.

Though the 30-year-old hasn't been consistent at the plate, he has had success in the past. In 2016, he hit .310 with seven home runs and 17 doubles in 78 games. He also came through with a 3-for-6 effort in the 2018 World Series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Still, Leon is best known for his work behind the plate. The catcher has accumulated 27 defensive runs saved over the last three years, per FanGraphs, even with a relatively down year in 2019. He has provided positive value with his framing in each of the last three years.

Cleveland already has one of the best defensive catchers in the game in Roberto Perez, but Leon could provide the team with another option while potentially replacing backup Kevin Plawecki.

In return, the Red Sox will receive a pitcher who has struggled in limited exposure to professional baseball.

The 21-year-old Bautista tallied 12 innings across seven games in the Dominican Summer League last year, producing a 6.75 ERA with 10 walks and six strikeouts. He didn't fare much better in the Arizona Fall League with six earned runs allowed in 5.1 innings.
