So I figured it was about time I learned something about our 2019 draft class beyond the top few. Last year's collection has progressed very rapidly and impressively. This year lots of high school kids at the top who will be slower up the ladder but Espino rates very well as an RHP; Valdes seems a strange NO. 2 since he's a SS who doesn't hit; No. 4 Cairo another middle if with more balance of skills; No. 3 Naranjo is described as Jake Bauers clone:'

Naranjo draws comparisons to Dominic Smith and Jake Bauers as a 6-foot tall first baseman with excellent feel to hit and questions about his power. Naranjo takes an advanced approach to the plate and has superb bat-to-ball skills. He squares up both velocity and secondary stuff and projects to hit for a high average, with some scouts projecting him as to be a potential plus hitter. Naranjo’s power is average, which makes him a tough profile at first base. He is a plus defender at first base with smooth glovework, and he’s playable in right field. Naranjo gets a bump from Bauers’ and Smith’s success

Then what:
5 tHunter Gaddis RHP 6-5 college guy power arm hard slider good control Doesn't appear on any roster yet
6 Jordan Brown 17 year old SS 6-4 very "projectible" but "a long way to go" power potential could breakout given time'
7. Curry RHP low 90s short bullpen probable college kid
8 Brennan CF avg defense good on base skills little power sounds like a lot of kids who go nowhere as pros college kid
9 Barltett C who could windup at 1b; strong; power high schooler
10 Hart RHP 6-4 235 94-95 mph throws strikes sounds like an Indians standard pick college guy
13 Pries 6-4 190 projectible CF few K's some power college guy mostly DH this year
14 Ike Freeman "lacks impact tools across the board" Sounds like an organizational player with no big league chance
15 Benton RHP 6-4 surgery this year; 3 decent pitches; can hit 95; sounds like a good gamble
17 Escobedo CF who hit well as a sophomore and not this year. good defender; has promise; sounds like another worthwhile stretch
19 Kelly RHP sidearm doesn't hit 90 reliever who's ceiling may not be too high

Couple days ago rumor started around Goodyear that McKenzie had been shipped out to Akron and guys who hang around there said might be true cause they haven’t seen McKenzie since. So something to keep an eye on. Might see him activated soon.

BA notes are similar, but include Holmes

Aaron Civale, RHP, Indians. Cleveland’s No. 15 prospect allowed just four hits and collected six strikeouts in seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Columbus. The righthander threw 102 pitches, including 61 strikes, before making his exit. It was the first time this season that Civale had went [sic] seven innings, completing 6 2/3 on two other occasions.

Future game roster analysis:

Nolan Jones, 3B
Age: 21
Source: Holy Ghost Prep, Bensalem, Pa.
Ht: 6' 4 • Wt: 185 • B-T: L-R
How Acquired: Selected by Indians in second round of 2016 draft; signed July 1, 2016.

Background: Jones led the New York-Penn League with a .912 OPS in 2017

What To Look For: Jones has a smooth swing from the left side and is one of the purest hitters in the Indians’ system. Evaluators believe he will also develop plus power as he grows into his frame. He should have the chops to stick at third base as well.

AVG AB H 2B 3B HR BB SO SB OBP SLG
.300 220 66 9 1 6 58 67 5 .454 .432

Daniel Johnson, OF
Age: 23
Source: New Mexico State.
Ht: 5' 10 • Wt: 200 • B-T: L-L
How Acquired: Traded by Nationals with RHP Jefry Rodriguez and a player to be named to Indians for C Yan Gomes, Nov. 30, 2018; Indians acquired SS Andruw Monasterio (Dec. 17, 2018).

Background: Johnson’s do-everything skillset got him drafted in the fifth round out of New Mexico State and made him the top prospect the Indians acquired in their offseason trade for All-Star catcher Yan Gomes.

What To Look For: Johnson is a threat to make an impact with his bat, his glove or his speed, but his left arm stands out in particular as a cannon that can throw out runners at any base from the outfield.

Greg Allen has been hot lately. 2-5 Friday night. 3-5 last night. Stolen base each night. ... Daniel Johnson went 1-3 and 1-5 with his 4th AAA home run. ... Haase didn't play Friday but yesterday he went 2-4 with a double and a homer.

Hentges started for Ducks Friday night. 4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. ... Nelson with a shutout inning. ... Morgan started last night and got rocked for 5 earned in 2 innings, ... Krauth with 3 shutout innings. ... Clement was 2-4 and 2-5 each night.

Hillman got smacked around Friday for Hillcats too. 5 earned on 10 hits in 6 innings. ... Morris with another good outing. 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. ... OscarG was 3-4 and 1-5. ... Freeman was 1-3 with a double and a walk, and followed that up with a 3-5 night. After a slow start following his promotion, Freeman is now hitting .306. ... Jones was 1-3 with a double and a walk both games.

Oviedo and Draper were both smacked around for Captains this weekend. ... Naylor was 2-5 with a double and a triple Friday. Followed that up yesterday with 1-3 with a double and a walk. He's really settled in now. ... Cardenas was 2-4 both nights. Hitting .304 now. ... Engelmann 2-3 and 1-4.

Rocchio was 3-4 with a triple and a walk Friday. 1-4 Saturday. Up to .250 now. ... Delgado was 1-4 with a double, then 1-2 with a double and 2 walks. ... Valera 2-5 with an RBI Friday, and o'fer last night.

Re: Minor Matters

Rocchio has one apparent flaw: he's now 3 for 7 in steals. But he's only 18 o learning his way.

Disappointed with the state of our top pitching prospects: Hentges and Oviedo made our Top 10 but both have been very erratic.
On the other hand, Plesac didn't rate on any of our top 30 lists and has taken several big steps forward. Civale is moving along well, too.

Re: Minor Matters

Some pitching by guys other than Bieber today.

in Akron: LHP Adam Scott 5 2/3 shutout, 7K. Last time was 7 IP shutout
for Lynchburg, LHP Kirk McCarty 1 run 7 K in 5 2/3
for Mah Valley RHP Carlos Vargas 5 4 2 2 1 6
Not in AAA, Chiang Martinez and Hu all ineffective, Hu still holding a place on the 40 man roster with his 7.95 ERA. That gives us a spot to use when Salazar returns from the 500 day IL after the All Star break.
lake County rained out in W Michigan. Arizona teams about ready to get underway

Offensively:
2 hits, a walk, two steals for Ernie Clement for Akron.
single double for Tyler Freeman hitting 325. Struck out for just the 2nd time vs. 5 walks in Lynchburg. Jones 1 walk, 3 K. Benson 1 walk, 1 K
triples for Jon Rod and Delgado. Valera hitless for the 4th game of the past five. But drew a walk, 8th in his past 9 games.
Johnson with a pair of doubles and a single [288/374/523] Haase No. 20 he's closing in on Bradley but Bobby may be back to pad his lead

Hey Civ, tomorrow morning I will update the DSL. You take everyone else.
