Dolans purchased Indians for 323 million in 2000.
They have made 282 million since then.
They franchise is worth 1.2 billion now.
That is 25th among MLB teams.
Re: General Discussion
10547need to compare those figures to the rate of inflation and determine the gross return on investment.
Siri advises $100 in 2000 is $145.82 in 2018 and the $323M is $471M in 2018 dollars.
And the original investment in 2018 dollars has produced income plus current valuation equaling $1480M.
Now compute the rate of return over 18 years.

10548Jefrey Rodriguez is making the start Saturday in Kansas City, taking Clev's spot at least for the time being.
If he isn't very impressive I would bet Anderson will get that spot after he works himself up to more than the 3 innings he pitched his last time out.

Re: General Discussion
10549As far as the Tribe franchise. It's worth is up 10% from last year. I don't care enough to do the math, but I imagine the Dolan's are doing OK.
Larry takes quite the beating on social media, but I have to say, for being in this size market without a salary cap I think it's pretty impressive they have remained a regular contender. Of course that is mainly due to guys like Shapiro, Antonetti, and Chernoff. But Dolan's have proved they will take on salary to the point of losing money when team is ready to contend. Can't ask for much more than that.

Re: General Discussion
10550this season's payroll cut was, however, disappointing. I know they want to keep room for the growth in salaries of Lindor and ???Jose and Bauers?? and Clevinger. But they could've spent something
Re: General Discussion
10551I thought that Jose signed a multi-year contract last year or the year the before.
Re: General Discussion
10552He did.
Lindor didn’t unfortunately. But we have Jose locked up a while.

Re: General Discussion
10554Yeah, well he is making squat on that long term contract though. It is a top 3 team friendly contract in all MLB.
(Unless he keeps sucking of course, unlikely)

10555Have you read anything impressive yet today? If you haven't let me help.
Cleveland Indians @Indians
Did you know that Shane Bieber is a career 8-0 in road games?
If you didn't know, now you know.

Re: General Discussion
10556Jefry Rodriguez has quite a talent level that is going to try to match. Our 5 man rotation [when all available] are all quite capable of competing for All Star berths and Cy Young award.
Re: General Discussion
10557Multiple outlets report that the Indians will purchase the contract of Carlos Gonzalez from Triple-A Columbus.
It was first reported by Jorge Urribarri. Per the terms of his contract, Gonzalez will earn $2 million in salary, and he can earn another $1 million in incentive bonuses based on plate appearances. The 33-year-old posted a 1.004 OPS in his six games in the International League. He should get a chance to get regular playing time against right-handed pitching.

Re: General Discussion
10558with a deep bullpen needed for Rodriguez' start, Carrasco picked a bad day to have nothing. Now we may need to bring up another reliever from Columbus and looking at the 40-man roster surprisingly Goody is the only reliever there who is with the Clippers and he's having a rotten start. The only others on options are starters Hu and Anderson [although Hu could come up for bullpen depth, he's several days since his last start] and injured Plutko; AA starter Hentges who has been terrible in his first 2 outings; and JC Mejia who has looked superb, but he's way down in Lynchburg
Re: General Discussion
10559There are so many choices for guys to option out to make room for CarGo, Luplow is awful but hits right handed; Greg Allen has hit worse then anyone of the OFs.
Also need to clear a spot on the 40 man roster but that's easy by putting Clev on the 60-day DL, IF they think he needs that much of a break.
At some point they could DFA Stamets but I guess Moroff isn't a good enough fielder for SS, which begs the question of whey they traded for him.

10560The velocity on all of Carrasco’s pitches was down from what he averaged through the 155 pitches in his previous two outings. On Friday, his 15 fastballs averaged 91.5 mph, the 12 sliders were 81.8 mph and his one changeup -- that resulted in a two-run blast by Alex Gordon -- was 84.3 mph. Leading up to this start, the 32-year-old’s fastball was averaging 93.7 mph (93.7 mph in 2018), the slider was 84.4 mph (83.9 mph in ‘18) and his changeup was 86.9 mph (88 mph in ‘18). Despite the dip in speed, Carrasco said he is healthy. [watch this space
