Mejia is hitting like old times. 3 hits yesterday; an 0-2 the day before ended a 10 game hit streak. But over those 12 games he totals.
45-5-17-13. 4 doubles, 1 triple, 2 homers. 4 walks, 7 strikeouts. 378/429/644

Oscar Gonzalez was a slugger in 2016 and a singles hitter last year. Now he's back in power mode, hit his 10th homer last night for the Captains. Also has 11 doubles. If he can learn some selectivity he could be a good offensive prospect. but to date he's walked 7 times and fanned 67

a former high draft pick Dace Kime is back after injuries and doesn't totally stink. He blew a save with a bases loaded walk but then settled in and earned a relief win. Not exactly counting on him however.

Only Lynchburg hit came in the 9th inning. Zach Plesac seems to pitch better in AA than in A; his Lynchburg ERA up to 4.98 on a 9 hit 6 run 5 inning stint.

Karinchak maintains a ZERO ERA over 13 innings and averaging close to 2 strikeouts per inning [23 total]. 8 walks allowed. He's on his second team of the season and no reason not to move on to his third in the second half.

Karinchak was the ace of Bryant's 47-12 club in 2016, going 12-3 with a 2.00 ERA while ranking 25th in the country with 112 strikeouts in 94.2 innings. The righthander came out of the chute showing first-round stuff, challenging Arkansas in his first start with a fastball that reached 96 mph, a changeup with tumbling split action and a hard, power curveball in the low 80s with downer action. His curve earned plus grades, and the three-pitch mix and Karinchak's confidence were moving him up boards before he lost momentum. He left a start in early March with an apparent arm injury and missed some time. His fastball command backed up as did his velocity; in some starts, he sat 90-92. He has a high, over-the-top arm slot that aids his curveball and a bit of a head whack in his delivery, and several scouts turned him in as a future reliever.

The Arizona league doesn't get going until later next week. That's good. The Indians No. 2 team roster now features one name: RHP Juan Garcia.

Owen Dew, a fairly recent Indians minor leaguer, is Garcia's personal pitching coach. Junior Betances is the hitting coach but has no one to coach.

I omitted Todd Isaacs, my breakout position player from 2017. As is true for most of such, Todd was a big flop last year. Not much better overall this season. My pitcher last year was Mike Brown who is having a breakout [maybe?] season the next year. This year's pitching pick Grant Hockin is back on the DL. Who was my position player? Don't recall at the moment, but knowing myself probably a "5 tool outfielder" who's hitting 207.
