Checking the current spring training stats, the only player with more than a couple ABs besides Yandy to not have an "air out" is of all people Eric Haase, he of the launch angle revolution in 2017. 3 GO 0 AO and 4K for Haase. 6 GO 0 AO 5k for Yandy.
It does seem likely Eric got one ball up in the air since he has a homerun and don't think it was inside the park. He and Diaz each with one double but don't whether they launched blasts off the wall or hard grounders down the line,

9137Indians optioned INFs Willi Castro and Yu Chang to Double-A Akron; reassigned RHP Cole Sulser, 1B Nellie Rodriguez and LHP Robert Zarate to minor league camp.
(Castro and Chang were added to the 40-man roster over the winter but never had a real shot to crack the Opening Day roster.)

9138The Royals have reached a one-year, $6.5 million deal with 3B Mike Moustakas.
The deal is still pending a physical. Moustakas will earn a $5.5 million base salary with another $2.2 million available in performance bonuses. The contract also includes a mutual second-year option for $15 million or a $1 million buyout. If the option gets picked up, it would bring the deal's total value to $22.7 million. Moustakas probably regrets turning down Kansas City's qualifying offer, which would have paid him $17.4 million for 2018.
PS - Scott Boras client.

9140MONDAY: All nine of the free agents that received a one-year, $17.4MM qualifying offer will reject that offer in favor of free agency, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports writes. Each of Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, Jake Arrieta, Wade Davis, Lance Lynn, Alex Cobb, Greg Holland and Carlos Santana will turn down that one-year opportunity in search of a multi-year pact in free agency.

Well, Hosmer definitely got a hit. So did Cain. Moustakas obviously not. Arrieta, Cobb, Lynn still remain to be seen.
Our own Santana got a huge hit. Smart move there.
Wade Davis another huge hit. Greg Holland to be seen.
Amazing to have guys the quality of Arrieta, Cobb, Lynn and Holland still unsigned.

9142The Twins are in:
Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports the Twins and free agent Lance Lynn are in agreement on a one-year, $12 million deal.
Multiple outlets were reporting that the sides were close on a one-year deal, and Morosi says it's now done. One year is surely less than Lynn set out to get at the start of free agency, but he was one of a number of free agents who found the market unfavorable.
The Twins, meanwhile, are loading up for another postseason run, having acquired Lynn, Logan Morrison and Jake Odorizzi in recent weeks. Lynn should do well in Minnesota and, with the carrot of another payday next winter, should also be motivated this season.

9143Yandy Diaz just hit a ground ball a long way .... for a grand slam.
It skidded across the dirt after it hit the back wall of the bullpen across the fence any way.
Opposite field shot, of course.

Re: General Discussion
9144I read somewhere that a handful of roster moves were made; Castro optioned down; Nellie returned to Columbus cap; Zarate and Sulser also returned to the minors. That leaves only 59 in camp

As most of the solid free agents find landing spots, it's incredible to look back and see some of the deals that were made. The Mets guaranteed Jay Bruce $39 million. Carlos Gonzalez, Jonathan Lucroy, Lance Lynn, Logan Morrison and Mike Moustakas combined were guaranteed $39.5M.

9146I thought the Tribe had the shittiest hat with that Block C but the Phillies hat with the Liberty Bell is about as ugly as it gets.
Re: General Discussion
9147And I am still loving Alonso for 2 years and $16 million. Tribe fans need to accept the fact that Antonetti and crew are at the very top of their field. Hired Tito and haven't looked back.rusty2 wrote:Jeff Passan

As for Jay Bruce he should be thankful that he and his agents read the market correctly and moved instead of the agents who waited and paid the price.

9148By the way I have little doubt that they still have some $$ left but are very aware that the trading deadline might be the best place for that - a la last season.

Re: General Discussion
9149Bet you're right on that as in 2016 and 17. They'll know which holes need filling and will trade or deal as appropriate
Re: General Discussion
9150It appears Greg Allen and Francisco Mejia will start the season at Columbus. They bypassed Columbus last year to make their big league debuts from Class AA Akron. "Triple-A isn't the end all and be all, but it will be a great step for them," said Francona. "There will still be some growing for them to do at Triple-A and it will be good for them." Allen is hitting .375 (9-for-24) with five RBI. Mejia is hitting .421 (8-for-19) with two homers and seven RBI.
