FAs... yes bargains...??There are still a ton of FA bargains out there
Re: General Discussion
9017Hannigan is 37, TFIR. He's Crash Davis at this point. Go to AAA and work with our youngsters and we'll give you another years salary, old timer.
Re: General Discussion
9019Agree seagull but usually they are guys no one heard of. Not Hanigan.
Again, I agree with you HB. But he played 36 games last year and 36 games as a backup to Perez could be fine.
Wishful thinking because I want extra spending space for another FA

Re: General Discussion
9020I am not sure why we should expect Haase to be ahead of Mejia as the starter for the Clippers. Either Eric backs up Francisco or stays at Akron to get the bulk of the work behind the plate, although he's proven he can hit AA pitching he doesn't really have a lot of games in the field.
The Indians like most teams recycle AAA catchers pretty regularly. They signed a guy named jack Murphy and invited him to camp [he's already had a stadium named for him until it was retitled in honor of a credit union]. He's a 29 year old who has been in nearly every other organization by this stage of his career. He might wind up backing up Haase in Akron and Hanigan backing up -- and as a 37 year old perhaps also serving as a personal coach--- to Mejia in Columbus. Or some such arrangement.

Re: General Discussion
9021I am really upset that we didnt sign Bartolo Fat Colon. He could have brought his friend Flip flop ie Enrique Wilson and maybe his other friend Manny Ramirez with him
Re: General Discussion
9022Civ ... Mejia is going to be in Cleveland sooner rather than later. TFIR needs to be shopping Yan or Perez around to make a spot for him. Not a 37 year old.

9023Our new 1st baseman looks like quite the character. Went undercover to the fan fest.

Re: General Discussion
9024Not sure Mejia, as a catcher, is in their plans. They were willing to trade him. They have him playing different positions in the off season. Signing a 37 year old catcher?
Bat is great but can he make pitchers better?
Might be worth more in a trade?

Sad news from Goodyear this morning. Tito Francona, father of Indians manager Terry Francona, and a veteran of 15 big league seasons (six with Cleveland), has passed away. He was 84.

9027Awww.
But as a person who has had this experience (and many of us has) you never know - at times it can be a blessing for all. Never easy but at the same time no one wants suffering.
Best wishes for the Francona family.
