I'm probably being overly optimistic on Brantley - this is my disclaimer.

The fact that he walked off quite well to me says it is nothing serious - he again tweaked that right ankle. I do think he will go on the DL for an ankle sprain - which it is - but I've played tennis with guys blowing out a major ankle sprain and they ain't walking around like he did right after.

Again probably overly optimistic as I am proned to be. But with some justification from what I saw.

My disclaimer is I am no doctor so I'm totally just spitballing here. Maybe Ken or someone can set me straight. My concern is the fact that Brantley keeps tweaking that same ankle. My question would be, is it possible to roll an ankle so badly that it stretches or weakens the surrounding ligaments to the point it makes it weaker and easier to sprain again?

I stepped on a rock while my lady & I were on an outdoor adventure last summer and rolled my ankle badly, so badly in fact that I actually broke a bone in my foot. I noticed for months afterwards that I kept rolling that same ankle. In spots that I never before would have.

I don't have the problem anymore, everything has healed up and I'm back to normal seemingly. But there for a while I was rolling that same ankle just walking to my mailbox, literally.

I just wonder if that is a thing and Brantley is going through something similar..?

Well that one I know for sure and once you sprain an ankle that ankle is much more likely to be sprained again.

That said, once it is fully healed the person should be fine!

It's just that if another situation comes up for a sprain, it is more likely to be the one previously sprained.

We don't know for sure, but judging by what we saw I believe Brantley's ankle was already in a compromised state and he was playing through it. It never was allowed to fully heal - remember how these guys tend to keep going in compromised states because they don't want to sit.

If I am Tito at this point I force him to the DL, then be sure to have him do a healthy dose of DHing when he gets back.

There are a number of OF options that easily passed through waivers. Get one of those, they would be dirt cheap (even a Jay Bruce would be dirt cheap because those guys are now devalued in the HR era) and DH Brantley more when he gets back. Or even use Santana more in the OF.

Pick up an OF'er??

I'm already extremely peeved that Naquin is ripping up the IL in Columbus while bums like Almonte and Guyer play. If they did something like that I would really fReAk out.

Naquin should be playing almost daily. This is getting ridiculous. Take turns letting Jackson spell one of them (Zimmer/Naquin) against lefties. But both should be playing learning and making adjustments at the MLB level right now.

Also, can't really DH Brantley without losing either EE or Santana's bat. Unless you stick Santana in OF again. We've dodged a bullet doing that a couple times since the World Series game in Chicago but I wouldn't go pushing that.

Still no Naquin. Unbelievable.
Yeah, with Brantley down for 10, obviously I get the Gonzalez recall. But then I'd follow it up with Naquin up for Urshela.

I know Urshela is Brooks Robinson revisited, but Brooks DID hit.

HB - sorry to offend you with the post about getting an OF.

Agreeing to disagree, where the Indians are at this point I would far prefer Jay Bruce, a legit 5 or 6 hole hitter.
