My question would be, is it possible to roll an ankle so badly that it stretches or weakens the surrounding ligaments to the point it makes it weaker and easier to sprain again?
I just wonder if that is a thing and Brantley is going through something similar..?
Well that one I know for sure and once you sprain an ankle that ankle is much more likely to be sprained again.
That said, once it is fully healed the person should be fine!
It's just that if another situation comes up for a sprain, it is more likely to be the one previously sprained.
We don't know for sure, but judging by what we saw I believe Brantley's ankle was already in a compromised state and he was playing through it. It never was allowed to fully heal - remember how these guys tend to keep going in compromised states because they don't want to sit.
If I am Tito at this point I force him to the DL, then be sure to have him do a healthy dose of DHing when he gets back.
There are a number of OF options that easily passed through waivers. Get one of those, they would be dirt cheap (even a Jay Bruce would be dirt cheap because those guys are now devalued in the HR era) and DH Brantley more when he gets back. Or even use Santana more in the OF.
