Hamilton said that Carrasco seems to be in the "dead arm period" today, since Carlos had nothing on the ball and got banged around for many extra base hits.

Tribe offense meanwhile has consisted of nothing. Leadoff hitter Brantley continues to hit incredibly feebly. He has grounded to the pitcher and grounded to 1st baseman. He has managed to walk once and steal one base. Looking totally useless to the offense.

I'm sure Ezequiel Carrera will not beat Brantley out of a job, but he has drawn 9 walks, stole 3 base and hit a homer. Travis Buck can play center can't he? His OPS is 1004 and his 2 walks match his 2 K's.

David Huff coming on now to try to match Tomlin's reasonably successful game yesterday (no runs but plenty of men on base). There may be room for both of them if Talbot's terrible performance turns out to be due to his arm injury returning once again. Talbot is however much more durable than good ole Anthony Reyes.

Re: GameTime!™

Tribe's up 6-5 after 4 active innings today. Masterson started, no runs allowed in the first two innings. Five in the next 2. Among the 7 hits he allowed were 4 doubles and a triple. Hanrahan and Hafner each hit doubles for us, Travis has w hits.

Durbin then pitched a shutout 5th with 2 K. Gomez in for the 6th,and I suppose the rest of the game if he's effective.

Lou Marson's 0-2 gives him a spring .125.

Re: GameTime!™

Wouldn't mind Hafner hitting it out of the park but two doubles and a single is a good day. Duncan hitting along with Buck and Carrera we could send Brantley out and use them and Choo and Kearns. Not very likely, however.

Tomlin continues to hold a solid lead on Huff and Gomez and Talbot for that matter.

Re: GameTime!™

67
Talbot with 5 decent innings, that's about all it takes to clinch a rotation job on this deep staff.

Jensen Lewis tagged for 2 3-run bombs. Jensen haters should be pleased.

I haven't paid enough attention: who is leading in competition for bullpen jobs? Perez, Perez, Durbin and Sipp are sure things. I suppose Smith is likely although he's injured right now. How have Germano, Herrmann, Judy, Todd been doing? Lots of runs off Todd early on I recall.

Re: GameTime!™

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Todd Frazier hit a home run and Mike Leake pitched four scoreless innings as the Reds beat the Indians, 5-1, on Thursday at Goodyear Ballpark.

Seeking a rotation spot, Leake gave up three hits and a walk while striking out two.

Left-hander Dontrelle Willis followed Leake with a scoreless inning and one hit allowed.

Frazier's first homer of the spring sailed the opposite way over the right-field fence off Fausto Carmona with one out in the fourth inning. It broke a scoreless tie.

In the fifth inning, Willis hit a one-out triple to right field and scored on Kris Negron's RBI single.

Carmona worked six innings and allowed two runs with six hits, two walks and a hit batter. He struck out five.

The Reds added two more runs against reliever Joe Martinez in the seventh inning. Miguel Rojas hit a sacrifice fly that scored Neftali Soto. Continuing his scorching spring, Dave Sappelt followed with a RBI triple to right field that scored Juan Francisco. Sappelt entered the day batting .520 (13-for-25).

The Indians loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning against Reds lefty Aroldis Chapman and broke through for a run when Lou Marson singled, scoring Shelley Duncan, who had singled two batters earlier. Chapman righted himself, however, and struck out consecutive batters to end the inning.

Up next for the Reds: Right fielder Jay Bruce saw his three-game hitting streak end on Wednesday, but he was 4-for-8 with his first homer of spring in those games going in. After an off-day on Thursday, Bruce will be in the lineup with most of the Reds' regulars against the Cubs. First-pitch is at 4:05 p.m. ET from Mesa, Ariz. Bullpen candidate Sam LeCure is making the start. LeCure has worked seven scoreless innings over his four outings this spring and has made a good case for himself.

Up Next for the Indians: The Indians play a pair of split-squad games Friday, with fifth starter candidate Jeanmar Gomez starting the early game against the Royals in Surprise, Ariz., at 4:05 p.m. ET. Also slated to pitch are David Huff, Jensen Lewis, Doug Mathis, Vinnie Pestano, and Jess Todd. Carlos Carrasco, a likely lock for the rotation, will start the nightcap at home against the Rangers at 10:05 p.m. ET. Chad Durbin, Justin Germano, Rafael Perez, and Tony Sipp are also scheduled to pitch.
