You should work for the Tribe. That's the same nickel & dime crap they've been doing for years. And why our offense is pathetic.
I wouldn't trade a proven top of the rotation starter for a stud bat. The SP is far more important in short series' come October.
Re: General Discussion
5792Hey, I resemble that remark! Wonder if they have any openings?
But IMO teams are built a step at a time. Homeruns are rarely, rarely ever hit in front offices.
Of course you should try, but better have a plan B, and plan C.
Mets are a good example of that. Picked up some hitters to go with that staff and made a significant difference.

Re: General Discussion
5793I'll add that at the beginning of the year, it was obvious there were holes in that lineup. Big holes and quite a few.
So Antonetti should take responsibility for that.
But it's water under the bridge. It's pretty obvious where the holes are this offseason.

Re: General Discussion
5794Everyone would love to get lucky & steal a guy like Donaldson but doesn't happen often. And extremely rare with us. Tribe needs a bat and they end up with a Brandon Moss. Best to just go ahead and try to get a proven guy, especially with our yahoos.
Re: General Discussion
5795When I was a kid back in the 60s and 70s, it seemed like the Indians were always trading hitting for pitching, or vice versa. As a result, they never had both. Are there no good hitters in the minor league system now? Or some who can hit with RISP?
Re: General Discussion
5797A couple outfielders are wending their up after excellent 2015 seasons: Brad Zimmer and Clint Frazier, recent 1st round picks, both of whom are capable of playing center or right; have a nice blend of power and speed. Both excelled in Lynchburg. Zimmer did well for his first month in Akron after promotion but hitting zeroed out in August. Both ranked among top OF prospects in the game. Won't see either in Cleveland until 2017.Are there no good hitters in the minor league system now?
1st baseman Bobby Bradley led his low class A league in homers by a mile at age 19. He strikes out a ton and makes a zillion errors at first base so his prospect ranking is still iffy. But he has one of the best power bats in the minors, and probably the best for teenagers.
Re: General Discussion
5798I'm not a fan of the super-slow mo, ultra high-def replays that show a runner was out because his foot came off the bag by a fraction of an inch for a millisecond.
Re: General Discussion
5799Thanks, CIV. Guess we get no help from the minors next season.civ ollilavad wrote:A couple outfielders are wending their up after excellent 2015 seasons: Brad Zimmer and Clint Frazier, recent 1st round picks, both of whom are capable of playing center or right; have a nice blend of power and speed. Re: General Discussion
5801I think the rule should be, if the runner beats the tag, he's safe, and can't be tagged out unless he makes a deliberate move toward the next base. Now it seems like sometimes the fielders are holding the ball in their gloves and trying to push the runners leg so his foot comes off the bag.
Re: General Discussion
5802Yes, that's why the guys are trying to call "time" as soon as they can.
It's bull and I can honestly say that I've umped games where I "accidentally" didn't see the foot come off a fraction for a fraction of a second.
I also think MLB umps used to overlook it a bit as well, but that's not an option now with replay.

Re: General Discussion
5803Did anyone else here watch the Jays-Rangers game today? What a crazy 7th inning! I'm glad the throw that hit off Choo's bat wasn't the difference!
Re: General Discussion
5804That was the craziest inning I have ever seen, and I have trouble even thinking of one that was close.
For the home plate umpire's sake, I too am glad that the call off Choo's bat was not the difference. Because he screwed up any way you look at it.
Ultimately they decided it was not interference - that's fine. But if it isn't interference then he screwed up signaling that the ball was dead. You would only signal dead ball if there was interference! Oops.
How can a runner score when play is declared dead when he's part of the way to home plate??
So really, it was just very unfortunate. And then for the bottom of that inning to go crazy with Texas misplays, I still have a hard time believing all that happened just the way it did.

Re: General Discussion
5805Russell Martin is one happy guy that Joey Bats won that game for them.
And so is the ump who wrongly signaled dead ball.
The networks may not like it but I think it's great for the game that Canada is fully engaged now!
On the other side, Elvis Andrus stepped up after the game and took responsibility. Feel badly for him. Of all the guys - he is an amazing fielder the other 99.9% of the time....
