Anything, absolutely anything, would be an improvement over Swisher this year.

Zach Walters - 3B - Indians

Indians recalled INF/OF Zach Walters from Triple-A Columbus.
Acquired from the Nationals in the Asdrubal Cabrera deal, Walters has batted .310/.361/.619 with 17 homers and 56 RBI at the Triple-A level this season. He's mostly and infielder and could see some time at shortstop, but the Indians are beat up in the outfield right now so most of Walters' playing time could come in left and right field. He's worth a shot in AL-only leagues.

Tyler Holt - OF - Indians

Indians recalled OF Tyler Holt from Triple-A Columbus.
Holt has just two plate appearances in the majors this season but has batted .306/.419/.384 with two homers and 31 stolen bases at Columbus. He'll provide outfield depth with Nick Swisher (knee) and David Murphy (oblique) on the shelf.

David Murphy - OF - Indians

Indians placed OF David Murphy on the 15-day disabled list with a right abdominal strain.
Murphy has been dealing with soreness in his right side for the last week and pain finally became too much Saturday. He figures to be out until September, but the Indians should know more about his status after an MRI Monday.

Nick Swisher - 1B - Indians

Indians placed OF/1B Nick Swisher on the 15-day disabled list with right knee soreness.
It's the second time this season that knee issues have forced him to the DL, and he indicated that he might be out for a while. "I can't keep playing like this," Swisher said. "We have to find out what's going on." More will be known after Swisher undergoes an MRI in the coming days. David Murphy (oblique) is also headed to the disabled list, as the Indians will recall Tyler Holt and Zach Walters.

Swisher - get surgery then and call it a year please. You are killing the team, including getting thrown out by a mile at home plate yesterday.

Walters - .619 slugging is SICK!!! Gotta see this guy for a prolonged period.

Todd Paquette @IndiansAccounts
Just called up OF Tyler Holt numbers over his last 30 games at @CLBClippers: 41-119 34R 8(2B) 1HR 6RBI 12BB 13SB .345 AVG

Todd Paquette @IndiansAccounts
Newest #Indians INF @CLBClippers INF Zach Walters @Zwalters02 numbers through his 1st 7 games 12-31 4R 4(2B) 2HR 8RBI .387 AVG

These guys should get at bats. I know Holt would be an improvement on defense in OF. Hard to imagine Walters being any worse than our cast of charecters.

I like Swisher, but agree one hundred percent. I can't remember the last time he got a hit when we needed him to.

[Sorry I was away when Gaylord was looking for Akron players to follow. I concur that there's not much there that's interesting. Gonzalez at the plate and Armstrong in the pen are pretty much it. I am curious whether Colon's good stats reflect projectible "stuff". He's never been rated a prospect but sometimes slow throwers make it (like Tomlin; at least for awhile). Ronnie Rodriguez has by contrast always been rated as just a step behind Lindor in talent, but his second go at Akron has been even worse than his first. [BTW Naquin wasn't promoted, he is on the DL with a fractured hand from a hit batter]

Somewhere else, someone suggest that Frank Hermann was the Indian with the longest tenure (and the implication was that Hermann is no longer an Indian). In my ongoing quest to get to the truth of the matter I have scoured the records at baseball-reference.com and have found that from the 2009 Indians roster there remain only two: Michael Brantley and Carlos Carrasco. Brantley became an Indians organization employee first, though I didn't find out when either of them were added to the 25-man or 40-man rosters. Apparently both had their MLB debuts on Sep. 1, 2009.

I unnerstan' they both had good days today.

Re: General Discussion

Yes they did. Brantley earned a New York Times story about how he learned from his dad the former hitting coach. I sure like his professional approach; always learning and has exceeded his projections which said he was not talented enough as an OF so he would have to play first base, and he didn't project much power, so he would wind up as a not much in demand non-power hitting first baseman. Sort of like Ben Broussard, I guess. Fortunately he has become far more valuable than that.

HB - Another Canadian gone ! HB is wiping them out.....

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Pirates have acquired reliever John Axford from the Indians.
No word yet on what the Indians will receive in return. Axford began the year in the closer role with Cleveland, but has dropped in the pecking order since the early part of May. His ERA was down to 3.14 for the year before he gave up a grand slam against the Yankees on August 8. He could be a useful mid-to-late inning option down the stretch.

Pirates Acquire John Axford
By Jeff Todd [August 14, 2014 at 3:20pm CDT]

The Pirates have officially acquired righty John Axford from the Indians, the clubs have announced. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports first reported the transaction (via Twitter). Axford, 31, joined Cleveland on a one-year, $4.5MM free agent contract after being non-tendered by the Cardinals.

MLB: Minnesota Twins at Cleveland Indians

Pittsburgh added the righty through a straight waiver claim , tweets ESPN.com’s Buster Olney. That means the club will be on the hook for the approximately $1.1MM that he is still owed this year, though it will not need to part with any young talent to add the veteran arm.
