Put a fork in them folks. There will be no trades at the deadline. We don't have anyone other teams want that we can afford to give up. Trade Cabby, Ax and Masterson for 2nd tier prospects and save the $$$. Once again FA is a complete waste of money in Cleveland. The draft and really smart trades are the only way to stay competitive. We have a nice core group of players that we control for a number of years. Build off of them and hope Lindor, Frazier, Salazar and Bauer turn out to be studs.....

Still this team has guts and .500 is a far cry better than what we have been accustomed too.....

You are right Frank: smart trades the Gomes and Aviles deal are the only ones we can make work. FA signings have given us some winter optimism but the big deals have mostly been flops. Signing the core is a great idea and has worked well at least as far as Brantley and Gomes and Santana are concerned. No reason to think Kipnis won't get back to his prior norms too.

The Indians are sellers:

Justin Masterson - S - Indians

MLB.com's Peter Gammons reports that the Cardinals are set to acquire Justin Masterson from the Indians.

The New York Post's Joel Sherman says the Cardinals will send James Ramsey to the Indians in the deal. Masterson has struggled in his walk season, posting a posting a 5.51 ERA over 19 starts. He's battled a knee injury, though, and the Cards are obviously hoping he's healthy and can improve in a move to the National League.

Masterson should make his Cardinals' debut on Saturday against the Brewers. St. Louis presumably is out of picture for Jon Lester and David Price now.
