Silento Sayles single, walk, 2 steals.
Gabriel Mejia 2 singles, 2 walks, 2 steals.

And power hitting teenagers with good nights, too,
Bobby Bradley singled, doubled, homered, walked, 3 rbi. Hitting a cool 366. OPS 1082
In the DSL, Jose Medina singled, doubled twice, walked, 4 rbi. LH. Hitting 324, OPS 922

Bradley tops the Arizona League in: average, slugging pct, doubles, OPS. RBI, tied for second in homers with 4
14bb vs 22K, not bad at all. MVP??

Teammate Chang is #2 in OPS, slugging, tied with Bradley and others for second in homers; also 6th in average; 13 walks, 18 strikeouts.

Promoted infielders go crazy:

Erik Gonzalaz with 3 hits for the RDucks is up to 408
Francisco Lindor with 2 hits for the Clippers is at 370

Former SS Dorsyss Paulino with a rare power display, 3rd homer and a single for Lake County
1b Nellie Rodriguez with 2 hits for the Captains
RF Carlos Moncrief capping a solid July, 3 hits, he's up to 278, and hitting 326 for the month

Mike Papi with his first non-homer in Lake County, avg up to 073. Good sign: 7 walks to match his 7 strikeouts.

Of note:

Brad Zimmer and Francisco Mejia each with 3 hits for Scrappers. Zimmer's included his 2nd homer, hitting 280. 18-year old Mejia had his 9th double, hitting 275. Both rate in my Tribe Top 5.
For some team 2B Steven Patterson, 2 hits, a walk, 4 runs, hitting 288.

Clint Frazier 2 walks, 2 strikeouts in Lake County, 260
Dorsyss Paulino doubled, 242
Papi 0-4 again. Hitting .067. Best news: again no strkeouts. So he's hitting the ball just not safely.

Pitcher of the day: Adam Plutko bounces back with a gem: 7-5-1-0-0-4. His last four starts:
7 innings, 1 ER; 6 innings, 0; 2/3 inning 7 ER; 7 innings, 0 ER. Overall I think he's probably still the top pitching prospect.

Levon Washington stays healthy and hitting singles, 2 of them for Carolina.
Erik Gonzalez with a single and walk, stays over 400 for Akron.
former top 10 prospect Ronnie Rodriguez with a pair of hits, batting a mere 234.

In Rookie Ball:
Catcher Chu with a single, double, 2 walks. Avg: 353; OPS 1126. 20 year old little guy.
Catcher Lucas 3 hits. 214. 18 year old 2014 draftee.
Cortland Cox 1 perfect inning. Total: 13-7-0-0-3-17. But if he were valuable I assume he'd be starting.

In the Dominican, an average day for Gabriel Mejia: a single, a walk and his 53rd steal.
3b Cerdo singled, doubled, triple. Avg 318, OPS 852. But he's 20 and never played in North America so ...?

It may have taken Zach Walters a while to find his new home, but when he did, he made himself quite comfortable.

The Indians newcomer went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a couple of stellar defensive plays in his Clippers debut on Friday night, but Triple-A Columbus fell to visiting Louisville, 5-4.

Walters got off to a quick start, doubling to open the bottom of the second inning. He singled in a run and scored ahead of Elliot Johnson's home run in the fourth and singled again in the eighth.

The 24-year-old second baseman was acquired from the Nationals at Thursday's trade deadline for All-Star infielder Asdrubal Cabrera. The trade may prove a blessing in disguise for Walters, who expressed some frustration after not receiving consistent playing time during a 27-game stint with the big league club.

"To put it politely, it was very interesting," Walters said in mid-June. "I want to be with the team that wants me and wants me to be a part of something. I feel like I can help the team I'm with, but I guess they didn't feel that way."

Walters' journey to Ohio proved to be an interesting one, as he expressed on Twitter earlier Friday.

In addition to producing at the plate, the University of San Diego product was responsible for a pair of sharp plays in the field.

Overall, Walters is batting .307, a mark that would tie him for eighth in the International League if he had enough plate appearances to qualify. He's tied for 11th with 15 homers in 61 games.

Johnson's three-run blast capped a four-run frame for the Clippers, but Bryan Anderson and Hernan Iribarren slugged two-run homers for the Bats.

Justin Freeman (3-1) tossed 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief for the win and Fabio Castillo recorded the final out for his first save for Louisville.

VT'er:

Oh man, they have a few guys to watch. A few of our recent college draftees. Our top pick, Bradley Zimmer, and Greg Allen, who are both in the OF. And Mike Papi, who will probably be at 1B.

Also, they have a very young catcher, Francisco Meija, who is worth keeping an eye on.

They don't have a pitcher who has really got me excited yet. Sean Brady has had some early success, but he hasn't struck out enough guys to make me get giddy. But some position player prospects for sure.

I'm jealous. Have fun. Let us know what you think about those guys.

All the umps' calls on the weird plays went MHV's way but they still came out on the short end of the stick.

Papi wasn't listed on the roster they handed out. The only name I recalled from previous years was D'Vone McLure. He looked like a ballplayer, except on his two throws from right field. He had a good shoestring catch late in the game.

Brady threw a LOT of breaking balls and typically to good effect. Allen didn't have a particularly good day at plate (didn't get a ball out of the infield). MHV got their two runs (to Vermont's three) on three doubles in the fourth, one by Patterson, one by Mejia over the CF's head, and one by McLure that was one of the hardest hit balls all night. Meijia certainly takes seriously being a catcher. And in a strange running play, he broke from first on the pitch, then stopped and turned around and beat the 2-6-3 throw back to first (or so said the ump).

The shortstop, Yonathan Mendoza, is from Venezuela. He was listed as batting R but in fact he batted L, so let's call that switch-hitting. Unfortunately, he wasn't wearing #13, I suppose because that's the number worn by pitching coach Greg Hibbard.
