On Monday night the Indians announced that they have promoted shortstop and top ranked prospect Francisco Lindor from Double-A Akron to Tripe-A Columbus.
As part of a series of moves they also announced that shortstop Erik Gonzalez was promoted from High-A Carolina to Akron. With shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera leaving the game on Monday with a back injury he is expected to miss some time and infielder Jose Ramirez could be recalled to Cleveland on Tuesday.
Lindor, 20, spent the entire year to date with Akron hitting .278 (95-342) with 12 doubles, 4 triples, 5 home runs and 48 RBI in 88 games. He also drew 40 walks, scored 51 runs and swiped 25 bases. He entered play on Monday tied for 5th in the Eastern League in steals and tied for 11th in walks and runs scored. The promotion marks his debut at the Triple-A level.
Gonzalez, 22, spent most of the year with Carolina and spent six games in Akron in late June/early July when Lindor was sidelined with a broken nose. Combined at the two levels he has hit .290 (97-335) with 16 doubles, 7 triples, 4 home runs and 50 RBI in 80 games (51RS, 16 SB). He entered play on Monday 6th in the organization in batting average, tied for 5th in RBI and 5th in steals.
