Chalk up loss no. 16 vs. 5 wins for the Incredible Captains -- remember they started 4-1. No hitter avoided only by Anthony Santander's single which also propelled his avg. to an even 100. Nellie Rodriguez 1 for his last 23. Eric Haase 2-22. etc.

Find pitching effort, though. Major turn around for Luis Lugo who worked a spiffy 6 shutout innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts. Robbie Aviles took the loss with 2 innings, 1 unearned run. Final Score: 1-0. Captains with 3 errors, 1 hit.

I would be interested in any lefthanded starting pitching. Besides CC the only guy on their big league roster is Vidal Nuno who the Indians had in the minors and let go. He's not much of a prospect.

In their Top 10 Prospect list the only LHP is a 19-year drafted last year Ian Clarkin who's years from the majors.

I note they just DFAd this lefty:

Removed from 40-man: LHP Cesar Cabral (outrighted to Triple-A)
Situational lefty Cesar Cabral failed to retire the last seven batters he faced for the Yankees, hitting three, walking one and allowing three hits

I don't think he want him.

Saturday games: http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.js ... d=20140426

Final scores from AAA down to Low A: 2-3 2-1 4-2 4-6

One comment on each game:
Aguillar with his 7th homer
Anderson with his best AA start, 5 innings, 1 run.
Morimando deserves a promotion, 6 2/3 1 run, 1 walk
Kime with his "breakout" night: 4 good innings, than collapse, but still after a WHIP of 2.3+ in his prior starts, this was impressive. {Captains now losers of 15 of their last 16}

More game notes:

Columbus:
Ramirez hitless with a walk and a caught stealing, his 5th, that's a lot of risky running.
Aguillar added a single and a walk. His line: 380/443/709/1152
Blake Wood 2 out (both by K), 1 hit, 3 walk
Frank Herrmann 5 outs, all by K
Vinnie P 4 outs 2 by K 1 hit 1 walk

Akron:
Naquin single, walk, 2 K
Lindor walk, error #4
Le Hair demoted to the Ducks
Anderson's line: 5 4 1 0 3 3
As boringly usual, Kyle Crockett with a perfect inning with 1 strikeout
Myles ends a 2-25 skid with 2 hits, back up to 303

Carolina:
Luigi Rodriguez 3 walks and a single
Morimando is now at 1.88 3-0. He's repeating this level where he was OK last year but command was poor, not this year
If I hadn't posted it before, as is always the case, LeVon Washington went back on the DL after about 10 games. He doesn't hit badly during those brief periods when he plays.

Captains:
4 errors don't help this miserable team.
Frazier single, walk, 1st steal
Paulino, single double 10th error
Rodriguez single, walk, 3 K.
13 LOB
Kime's final line: 4 2/3 5 4 3 2 5 Doesn't look like much but is a major step up. First 3 innings were nearly perfect, just one walk. Then the roof fell in but at least it took 3 innings to get to that point this game. Previous he OBA with no one on base for the season was well over 500

Lake County with a chance to secure their 2nd win in 3 weeks. Finally broke a scoreless tie with 2 in the top of the 12th. Ben Heller in for the save.

Jordan Milbrath took the Captains through the 10th, yielded only 1 walk and 1 hit, fanning 5 in 4 1/3. His ERA at 1.52.
Santander again had the only LC hit through 9 and then doubled and scored in the 12th. Rodriguez and Santana each struck out 3 times, Frazier and Haase 2, Team total 18

Re: Minor Matters

So Carlos just needs to take after 19 year old OF Anthony Santander at Lake County. He was 5-57 until a few games ago and now has a four game hitting streak with 5 hits in 12 AB. A long way to go to get himself up to a respectable avg but every day helps. He just batted in the Captains' first run as they go for a second win in row. First year man Adam Plutko with 3 shutout innings, UCLA grad is a pretty good prospect although not a real hard thrower so not an ace in the making, but I'll take a quality major league starter from a draft once in a while.

Re: Minor Matters

And as I typed that Santander launched his first homer of the year. I can stop being embarrassed that I brought him back as a breakout candidate in 2014 after his season was derailed by injury last year. the homer was back to back after Nellie Rodriguez came through for the 4th time in the season. Captains with their biggest lead in weeks, 4-0.
