What was the excuse in 54 when they won 111 games and went to the World Series?

2012 and 2013 have average game attendance is higher than that year....it's actually well above the average.

Cleveland's not a big baseball town so attendance is never great unless very special circumstances exist. But I disagree strongly with kenm's comments that the team failed since the All Star game and that's in an "unlikeable squad"

For those paying attention they keep getting hot and cold and hot again and cold again. They have had very solid starting pitching, most ERA's are under 4. Strong but not perfect bullpen; Perez is a worry but saves most games; everyone's favorite Pestano is the flop of 2013. Hitting needs to be better, but I find it a generally enjoyable group with hustling players like Kipnis and Stubbs; pros like Swisher and Bourn; useful contributors like Brantley; exciting young talent Gomes; good solid hitter Santana; best bench in ages Raburn, Aviles. Left side of infield is a disaster, although Cabrera had some timely fly outs yesterday. Someone needed to join Kipnis and Santana in the middle of the order, apparently it's not Swisher.

I think they have been a very interesting unpredictable team, which every time I give up on bounces back. They won't make the playoffs, but they're doing way better than I imagined they could.

I have gone to two games and they both were bombs. After a listless bunch of games by the offense, why would anyone in their right mind wand to watch a game? We sat in the club seats and the rest of the experience was good but the game itself was equal to watching paint dry! They were lucky they won last night!

That is the point. This team has failed every major test this year and in all previous years going back to 2007. At some point they have to show the fans who are probably harboring significant distrust of ownership/management that they are not fools gold. Why didnt management do anything at the deadline? The way I fault Cleveland fans is their stupid blind loyalty to the Cleveland Browns who are an organization that deserves even more distrust from the fans than does the tribe.

Fans like the Browns because they like football. They don't care if the team is any good; they dont' care if there's a new coach, a new quarterback, no big stars, no consistent plan; they come because they like to watch football games. That's their privilege.

That's why I go to Indians games, and pay $180/season for the Extra Innings package - I like to watch baseball!

Myself I pay for the nba summer league package and was looking for a way to watch eurobasket 2013 and fiba tournament of the americas more interesting.

Me....I work in the morning to make money and the same early Thursday afternoon, and then race to an airport to get from Southwest Florida to Yosemite National Park for a family obligation wedding Saturday...Pacific Time....evening. While the Ohio State game winds down, and I'll be monitoring South Carolina and Auburn in my person fandom of the day.

I traveled and worked out of the office of the day, or the hotel of the night, for 40 weeks per year, for much of the time of this board history.

At this moment, I especially remember the attractive cocktail waitress with stiletto heels and a real short skirt I found in the back parking lot in Indianapolis....hours after club closing....and I took her safely back to my "home of the week" as she was passed out and I sorted her purse and found her ID's and started making "soft calls" to her possible relatives at 2:30 AM to come and get her as I covered her up. As Matchbox 20 was playing in my room as I watched her "sleep" and, and I reminded myself that I was always lauded to be a complete gentleman, and always knew I needed to be same.

SC I love Shapiro and think he is one of the best baseball men in the business. He makes money for his owner year after year and he has put the best Indians team on the field this year in years. He got Francona and a commitment from Dolan to $$$ and it is paying off. I have loved this season as long as we aren't playing the Tigers.

We have a solid group and finally excellent starting pitching! Lots of roster and payroll flexibility. Good baseball times are here in Cleveland for a while....

I think that you may well be right Frank, although that's due to the $$ commitment that Dolan showed over the past 12 months rather than the talent developing on the farm. I am worried that the 2013 spending may be due only to the $ Dolan got for the cable network. He'll need to keep investing to make the team better and he's not making money from ticket sales.

We'll add Lindor for a very fine up the middle of the IF. But no other position players older than age 19 have significant major league ceilings.

The best money Dolan will ever spend in his lifetime is by signing Jose Abreu this off season.

Dolan is preparing this team for sale. Hopefully, Dan Gilbert steps forward. If not there is a 50/50 chance that the Indians may move. (Not a lot of local individuals or companies that are interested in buying the Indians. )
