Re: Minor Matters
2777Highly unusual night, all of our US-based farm teams won a game, although Scrappers lost game 2 of their DH.
Offensive star of the day was Mahoning Valley's Claudio Bautista who slapped 3 hits in each of the two games.
CF Joel Mejia 2 hits for Arizona; DH Clint Frazier walk and sac fly; OF Devon McClure double.
Mitch Brown a lot better than usual: 4 1/3 1 run on 3 hits 3 walks and 6K. Still room for improvement, but he's way ahead of the out of shape drug-suspended Dillon Howard.
Nellie Rodriguez 2 hits in one game, 2 walks in the other.
Josh McAdams in each game and his 5th steal
18-year-old Anthony Santander with his 10th and 11th doubles and 2 singles playing in full season A, which makes him younger than the hitters noted above who are in short season leagues. He's only batting 240 but he like Paulino is pretty decent prospect hanging in there vs older opposition
For Carolina, Lindor singled, doubled (#19), tripled (#6) hitting 314
Naquin tripled (#4) and walked. Although Tony's wrong that he's an MVP favorite he's hitting 303
Wolters 2 singles and double, avg up to 265 and behind the plate he nailed the only runner who tried to steal; he appears to be doing OK as a rookie catcher.
Performances in AA and AAA were noted last night.

2778Wolters 26% caught stealing compares to:
Alex Lavisky 14% in limited play, due to nagging injury
Jake Lowery 38% at AA
Eric Haase 40% in Low A (add his 10 homers, he's doing things pretty well()
Roberto Perez 41% in AA and even better 52% in AAA

Re: Minor Matters
2780My guess is Next Year.
He's only 19 so there's not a rush.
I would expect Naquin to get there first, since he's 22 although it wouldn't hurt if he figured out how to avoid the strikeouts first. Then again, both Ronnie Rodriguez and Carlos Moncrief have cut their Ks way down after their moves to AA.

Re: Minor Matters
2782Tribe SSs on the Hot Prospect List:
No. 11 Francisco Lindor, ss, Indians
Team: high Class A Carolina (Carolina)
Age: 19
Why He’s Here: .360/.429/.520 (9-for-25), 2 2B, 1 3B, 3 R, 2 RBIs, 3 BB, 3 SO, 1-for-2 SB
The Scoop: Lindor may be the greatest triple threat in the minors based on what he can do in the batter’s box, on the bases and on defense. He has the lowest strikeout rate among high Class A shortstops (9.6 percent of plate appearances), while ranking second among that group with a .310 average and fourth with a .379 on-base percentage. Lindor has chipped in 19 stolen bases and solid extra-base pop (.420 slugging), all at the tender age of 19.
No. 12 Dorssys Paulino, ss, Indians
Team: low Class A Lake County (Midwest)
Age: 18
Why He’s Here: .333/.357/.593 (9-for-27), 1 HR, 2 2B, 1 3B, 5 RBIs, 4 R, 1 BB, 4 SO
The Scoop: Paulino’s bat lay dormant for much of the first half, but he’s hit well for two weeks since the break, batting .304/.316/.482 with five extra-base hits in 13 games. That’s a sight better than the .222/.273/.312 line he recorded in the first half.

Re: Minor Matters
2783Two relievers who could potentially replace some of the flailing relievers on the Indians, C.C. Lee and Blake Wood now working in Columbus, both pitched scoreless innings last night. it's clearly time to remake the bullpen.
Re: Minor Matters
2784BA Q&A:
Ben (Providence): Do scouts think that Lindor will develop any home run power as he matures, or will he likely be a five home run guy?
J.J. Cooper: He'll end up with more power than that. He projects as a 10-15 HR guy down the road, better than that according to some scouts.

Re: Minor Matters
2785Ian (OK): Is Correa the best short stop prospect in baseball?
J.J. Cooper: Not to me. Lindor.
[I think the guy who answered the questions last week picked the other guy.]

Re: Minor Matters
2786Not just does JJ Cooper like Lindor a lot, he even answered my Carlos Moncrief question!
Elliot (Youngstown OH): I'll ask my weekly Carlos Moncrief question: The former pitcher now an OF with a strong arm is having a whale of a breakout season in his first try in the pitcher-friendly Eastern League. Avg flirting with 300, draws walks, hits doubles and homers, still with a cannon in the OF. I note that his splits vs LH is weak but he managed his first 2013 homer vs a lefty this weak. A major league platoon prospect at minimum?
J.J. Cooper: He's having a very good year, and he's worked himself into legitimate prospect consideration. A major league platoon prospect at minimum is taking it a little too far, but you don't have to squint too hard to see him having a shot at the big leagues now, which didn't seem all that likely not that long ago.

2788Saturday box scores:
http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.js ... d=20130706
Many of our Top Dozen prospects have top notch days:
Lindor 2 hits, hitting 310, fanned twice
Frazier his 2nd double and 3rd triple, hitting 448, fanned twice
Pauino 1 hit
Naquin triple and a walk, no Ks
Jose Ramirez 3 hits, including his 3rd double in 2 days, walk, 30th steal; 324 in last 8 games
Moncrief 2 hits, 299
Salazar 5 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, no runs.
Cody Anderson 5 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs
CC Lee 1 shutout inning, 2K
Crockett 1 inning, 1 unearned run; 3 1/3 shutout innings as a pro
Also noteworthy:
Nellie Rodriguez, 4 singles, 19 year old now hitting 300 for MHV, looks like a slugger but so far he's showing he can take walks and get on base; power will come later?
Tim Fedroff 2 hits including a homer in a doubleheader; avg 280; OPS still only 738; not much for corner OF
Joe Wendle 18th, 19th, and 20th doubles. Avg is 320. OPS is 977. He's a 23 year old second baseman who Tribe doesn't seem interested in promoting above Class A. They probably know why.
Langwell 2 shutout innings.
Will Roberts 6 2/3 shutout innings.
Enosil Tejada 1 1/3 ditto, ERA 1.40 in Akron bullpen
Luis Gomez lefty in Arizona 4 innings, 1 earned run, 7 K
