If you asked me to pick a player to take a last shot, Kyrie Irving would be in conversation. In another year or so he might be final answer

1067Anderson Varejao has blood clot, out for year
Anderson Varejao recently developed a blood clot in his lung and is out for the season.
A bad break gets worse for Varejao, who is now officially done for the season, according to the Cavs. Varejao just had surgery for a small split in his right quad, and he is expected to remain at the Cleveland Clinic to be treated and monitored. The good news is that he's expected to make a full recovery. This locks Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller in as the starting frontcourt for the remainder of the season. Thompson is averaging 10.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.7 blocks as the starting power forward, while Zeller is averaging 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks as the starting center.

1068Unfortunately Andy continues to develop his parallels with Grady Sizemore.
Not saying this is his fault, and it's not Grady's either.

The Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers have entered serious discussions on a multiplayer trade, according to league sources.
The Grizzlies would send big man Marreese Speights and guard Josh Selby to the Cavs for big man Jon Leuer.
There are also believed to be draft picks involved in the deal.
The trade will slice $4 million off the Grizzlies payroll and get them under the luxury tax.

The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a multiplayer trade with Cleveland Cavaliers, slicing more than $6 million off their payroll to get them under the luxury tax threshold, league sources told ESPN.com.
A trade call to finalize the deal is scheduled for Tuesday.
The Grizzlies would send big man Marreese Speights, guard Wayne Ellington and guard Josh Selby to the Cavs for big man Jon Leuer. There are also believed to be a future draft pick involved in the deal.
Reducing payroll both short- and long-term has been a goal of the new Grizzlies ownership and led to other trade talks involving Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph over the past several weeks.
Speights averages 6.5 points and 4.7 rebounds as a key big man off the bench for the Grizzlies but makes $4.2 million this season and has a player option at $4.5 million for next season. The Grizzlies owe Gay, Randolph and Marc Gasol nearly $50 million alone next year.
Ellington is averaging 5.5 points in 40 games off the bench.
The Cavs were able to make the deal because they had more than $10 million in cap space in which to absorb Speights. That would likely mean the Grizzlies would receive a trade exception of more than $6 million that would be good for a year.
Selby has only played in 10 games this season, averaging two points. Leuer has played in nine games, averaging 2.4 points.

Grizzlies Trade Three To Cavaliers
By Yannis Koutroupis

According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports the Memphis Grizzlies have traded Marreese Speights, Josh Selby, Wayne Ellington and a 2015 first-round draft pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Jon Leuer.
This trade gets the Grizzlies, who were rumored to be shopping core players like Zach Randolph and Rudy Gay in order to get out of the luxury tax, under the $70 million threshold by about $2 million.
Leuer is in his second year in the league. He spent his rookie season with the Milwaukee Bucks before being traded to the Houston Rockets this offseason. The Rockets cut him, but he was picked up by the Cavaliers. With them he averaged 2.4 points and 1.4 rebounds while being sent down to their D-League affiliate, the Canton Charge, for eight games. During those eight games he averaged 19.5 points and 12.3 rebounds.
Speights and Ellington were a part of the Grizzlies regular rotation with Speights contributing six points and four rebounds a game and Ellington adding five points a game, respectively. Speights had an implicit no-trade clause, but was consulted and agreed to the trade. Selby had played in just 10 games this year; he was unable to earn a spot on the second group despite an impressive showing this offseason at the Las Vegas Summer League, where he was co-MVP with potential rookie of the year Damian Lillard. Ellington and Selby will both have a chance to play more in Cleveland than they did in Memphis, as will Speights especially with Cavaliers starting center Anderson Varejao out for the year.
The Grizzlies’ 2015 first-round pick is top-5 protected. Their 2013 first-round pick was traded in 2011 as a part of the deal with the Houston Rockets for Shane Battier. It now belongs to the Minnesota Timberwolves, although it could end up with the Phoenix Suns.
Once the trade is official the Grizzlies could have as many as four open roster spots. They were in Reno, Nevada last week at the D-League showcase scouting players for potential 10-day contracts.

Re: Cleveland Cavaliers
1075The Cavs just got more of that all important roster flexibility otherwise known as the abiliity to beg Lequit to come back.
Re: Cleveland Cavaliers
1076Cavs building the right way but they better start winning next year!!! Hard to fault any trade for Leuer that nets a rotation big and a #1 pick. Only top 5 protected, wow!
Re: Cleveland Cavaliers
1077Cap room certainly buys a pretty good return! I guess Casspi earns too much to yield nearly as much in return.

1080I can only hope and pray that Lombardi is half as good as Grant is at making trades. Salary cap certainly changes life in the trade market though.
Other nice thing is that some of the players they got are tradeable again. That said, I have always been a Selby fan and Speets is solid front court player.
I hope that Livingston doesn't get squeezed on PT too much
